sadly yes, but from what I've read some people initially considered the Cold War to be over during the détente period until détente ended, at which point the new phase of the Cold War was referred to as Cold War II. I wonder if historians 20 years from now will think of the 1992-2013 period as "détente II", and whether our current time period will just be seen as superpowers going back and forth between cold war and détente cycles

I disagree at being at the end. Assuming your hypothesis is correct (it certainly gives everyone something to think about) it looks like the authoritarian order countries are all creating proxy battles to avoid direct confrontation with the states and NATO forces. Russia views ukraine as a western proxy and Iran views Israel as a western proxy. That’s how I view it

1989/1991-2014/2017 was the interwar period except in between the two Cold Wars. The end of the first Cold War was either 1989 (fall of Berlin Wall & Soviet satellites gaining independence) or 1991 (end of the Soviet Union entirely). I believe the second Cold War either started in 2014 with Russia's actions in Ukraine and China's actions in the South China Sea or 2017 which was the beginning of the trade war between the US & China as well as de facto end of the Donbass War which resulted in the two unrecognized Russian separatist "republics" in Eastern Ukraine. Feb 2022 full-scale invasion in Ukraine was a major escalation of Cold War 2.0 similar to how the Korean War was a major escalation of the first Cold War.

You make many good points, but I think it is more accurate to say that the Cold War never really ended, that it went into a new phase after 1989, and that we are now at the end of it. I wrote the above comment 4 months ago, and look at where we are right now with Israel, the USA, Iran and Russia in the Middle East, not to mention China. No one knows exactly what will happen, we just know it will not be Cold, but very Hot.

Infact, he fails to mention a hell of a lot of atrocities committed by Eastern Bloc members, such as the Bosnian genocide, the years of oppression and disease under Mao Zedong, the draining of the Aral Sea by the Soviet Union, and many, many more. Yet he is very quick to point out atrocities committed by the West, which indicates a heavy Eastern bloc bias

after the collapse of the Soviet Union, more people died from hunger, poverty and banditry than during the Second World War. And in the Second World War, about 27 million people died in the USSR. It is not "little bloodshed and violense" i wish you feel the same in your country

Not really. Rhee Syngman is a good dictator, and Kim-il-Sung was the bad dictator, so half right and half wrong. That is unless you copied from another video that had the fake information.

Some of those who have been around long enough to see the highest levels of tension the cold war had to offer (mostly the Cuban missile crisis) as well as the current situation in The Ukraine say that the latter is much more serious than cold war tensions ever were. At it's peak of strength, the USSR had a fighting chance against the US in many categories. But since the break up of the Soviet Union, Russia is on its own economically, and has very few allies since Putin decided to invade Ukraine. He has singlehandedly isolated Russia from most of the world which can't be good for any country's economy. And as if being the aggressor in a war that has seen the number of deaths and casualties absolutely skyrocket wasn't enough, he and his "2nd most powerful military in the world" are losing the war that Russian high command claimed would be a victory in 3 days. He is running low on everything he needs to wage war except 1 thing.....NUKES. Russia's war doctrine states that they are authorized to use their nuclear arsenal to counter any threat that they see as existential. If the very idea of Russia is in danger, they can use nuclear weapons. I'd say Russia is in deep shit right now and nukes may seem like the only answer for Putin at this point. We could literally be vaporized by a Russian missile at any moment.
