Angélica MaheG haha , shuhua never gets any lines. They hoped she would have more but I had already watched the video and knew that was her only line in this song.
In Soyeon's Vlive, she said she would probably cherish this song because the meaning of DUMDi DUMDi is youth. She wanted to write about herself embracing her youth and her passion right now. "Like when I'm 100 years old. Neverland, if I ask how I was when I was young, Neverland can tell me to listen to DUMDi DUMDi." Later on she says, "Lyrics are really important to me but we have too many foreign members, so in case that the foreign members can't deliver it as well, I really try to get the best recording with the best pronunciation. Even if I look at other things, I try to look out for pronunciation." That's probably why Shuhua has 2 lines in this song, but it doesn't bother me.
Seriously, I hope people do not put pressure on SY for SH's Line. As I'm Korean, I need lots of patience when SH saying something in korean. Even more than my 5yrs old cousin. I love SH. She have something that make people loves her. But it can be a critical burden on her and I-dle when people keep obsessing this stupid line distribution thing.
claire of course you may! He was credited for it :) Just google “dumdi dumdi song credits” or look the song up on Wikipedia, it’ll show credits for Wooseok in the chorus!
this bright summer concept was idealized way before OMG & even Lion, Soyeon spoke about doing this concept in their I-Talks during their promotions for Uh Oh, a year ago.
Interesting since Idle always change their concepts, maybe that's why I love them, just like Red Velvet, they keep changing so they can embrace a lot of concepts and a lot of different fans can enjoy them. Idle is a one of a kind group
Honestly I don't care if it's westernised or kpop style, when it comes to idle you always feel that "yes this song is idle's". So I can see elements of their personalities in this song too. (G)I-DLE turned up my summer and I'm loving it. 💯
I think the reason why this song doesn't have a shock factor is because Soyeon worked on this song with Pop Time. Just like Zico's Any Song, catchy but it doesn't have a shock factor.
At first, when I heard this song, I wasn't taken by this, but now it's constantly stuck in my head. I love the break the whistle provides in the chorus, and this song allows for a really fun choreo. I actually like that it's a bit more generic concept wise. I remember when RV came out with Umpah Umpah, PD said himself that the generic nature of the song actually made it seem more experimental for RV because their concept is so unique and this was a new direction. I think the same goes for this song. I still hear the gidle sound, and it just proves that Soyeon can make more than one genre or concept with her music. I love how the vocals really got to shine and I just love how uplifted the song makes me feel lol.
SOYEON's story is so fascinating. From people telling her that she is ugly and she doesn't deserve a place in the music industry to a queen who writes, produces, makes stages and is the leader of her group. It honestly makes me cry. I'm proud of what she achieved.
15:17 it's interesting how you talked about this song lacking that shock factor, but personally the fact that soyeon even produced such a song was a shock in itself, I was speechless throughout the first listen because her songs tend to have some dark "mysterious" elements, but it only makes sense cause it's a summer song. I agree on what you said about the drop in Miyeon's part, it wasn't as hard as I expected at first I thought it was still the prechorus, but I don't mind, specially that the Dumdi Dumdi part makes up for it. Overall, this went to my playlist right away, I love that it's not too cute or childish just because it's supposed to be a bubbly summer song, it sounds mature and I don't think another girl group could pull it off the way IDLE did.
My reaction was a bit different, because I was never a big fan of (G)I-dle before. I actually think this is their best song, and the best song I have heard this year. That chorus is killer.
Really thinking on what you said, I think the biggest shock factor is that a cold, charismatic reputed group like IDLE actually managed to pull of a summer concept like DUMDi DUMDi... The fact that they keep on proving that IDLE is a genre, and don't limit themselves to one concept is appreciable... That being said, I believe IDLE's true roots are definitely in the charismatic concepts side, so trying out this concept once is good enough... But going on a Red Velvet style 'one summer bop per year' won't suit them... Then again, surprise me IDLE!!!
Reveluv here. I'm absolutely living for this song. So summery and fun! I see a lot of mixed feelings from Neverlands, maybe cuz it's not the norm from (G)I-DLE. But damn I'm glad they made this. The entire song is fun. I particularly like the heavier pre-chorus change-up and the soft bridge. And Soyeon's rap is fire.
It's still baffling to me how someone can be this hardworking tbh. I remember PD going on a short break a few weeks ago and they're popping contents here and there like ok, chill.
I enjoy song, I got shocked by Minnie's look and also by Soyeon's rap., the beat is very catchy and although the song has child vibes like Zootopia/Madagascar or a kind of a jungle/oasis mix in the middle of a desert, is really fun and fresh for a summer song and it fits the girls personality somehow.
I just love how (G)I-DLE's songs retain that part of what makes them a group. Also how Soyeon's lyrics are made with her entire love for the music, as a constant reminder of what she loves the most. (Personally, Oh my God is her ode to her love for the music, as the 'she' pronouns are her perception of the music itself)
DUMDiDUMDi is close to becoming my favorite Idle song competing with the queen herself that is Hann. When I heard the teasers and saw the concept I was kinda confused and not really into it but held on cz it's Idle. But after listening to it again again I realized how happy it makes me, it's so catchy, their voices sound amazing, Soyeon's rap was great and the best thing ever is that the girls seem to enjoy performing it so much, every time I see them smiling on stage my heart gets warm and that's the best thing for the DDDD era for sure. I liked the MV also probably cz it was just them having fun. Idle can pull every concept and own it, I'm so proud of these girls for trying new things and I'm sure they'll reach the sky one day.
i don't like the concept of a "summer comeback" in kpop cause it usually feels like a money grab that has nothing to do with the group's usual concept, but every year there are a few songs that actually feel authentic to the group. i think dumdi dumdi fits well with gidle's image, but still should've been a promotional single instead of a full comeback. chungha's play is a good example of fitting a summer song into artist's usual image.
@@stanloonaurfavesflop2901 neither were hann or uh oh but they were still full comebacks. idle have a cycle where they release a mini album and then a single. i trust was the album and now we have dumdi dumdi as the single
I agreed with most of what you said. Personally, what got me interested in Idle is how different they were, theatrical, conceptual, so I'm hoping this is a one-off and that they go back to exploring different musical styles that aren't seen again and again in kpop.
I think this is a beginning to something new for them. I wanna hear them create their own sound. They were testing the waters and wanted feed back. The inspiration behind it is very wholesome, but the song lacks something as you said. I wanna see them try another summer concept but one that fits their sound even more than Dumdi Dumdi.
Okay, I wasn't as disappointed as you when you said, "Oh, Shuhua has lines. Hope, she has more!" cuz I knew that's what she was going to get but I'm happy she has lines at least and I don't see it improving as long as she improves her pronunciation. I'm a Shuhua bias myself but just ignore those aggressive Shuhua stans asking for more lines when she doesn't feel herself comfortable getting more lines! Soyeon actually said that it's more of a youthful song than a summer song. So, yeah, I could feel your discontent about something "missing". Soyeon was inspired by "Zootopia" when she wrote this, so maybe you can find something out of it!
Soyeon said that she was afraid to launch this song because is a totally diferent concept for Gi-dle and she dont wanted to make a bad movement for the group but Soojin supported her and suport the song and here we are with the most Gi-dle's awarded comeback. For me this is not my type of genre or type of music but there's something different with this song there's a clearly gi-dle's influence in this song and i like it. is catchy and its a new concept for Gi-dle and im happy for that cuz thats why i love this group. The variety.
I really like the song. Their voices never sounded better and Soyeon switching her rap flow on the fly is always a high point. That dumdi dumdi is addictive af. I think PD is right that this song doesn't sound like a kpop song and I think Soyeon is ready to step out of the Kpop mould. My prediction is that all future titles tracks from Soyeon will sound less and less Kpop.
While there may not be the '(G)I-DLE flair' to "DUMDi DUMDi", it's upbeat and it's energetic and it feels like the missing song from their last album. "I Trust" was somewhat low tempo by comparison so I'm glad to see a return to a more "I Am" sound. "Oh My God" was a good song and I was a fan of the dark, epic sound it had, but structurally it felt like a re-run of "LION". Loved Miyeon's voice on the chorus and bridge for this, she brings so much life and momentum to it. Soyeon's rapping is as impressive as ever (though not one of my favourites), and special mention goes to Yuqi on the buildup to chorus two. Her voice drew me into "LATATA" and she remains one of my favourite parts of (G)I-DLE's soundscape.
I loved how those hard horns come in to start off Minnies first part. I love Soyeons fun and "windy" rap verse. I love Epic Idle but if all of the songs are epic then pretty soon nothing is epic enough.
I honestly loveeeee this song. I was super duper shocked like you but then watching it again it grew on me. The song has deep value to the girls especially Soyeon and you probs can find the reason in other comments here
honestly had the same feelings as u in the beginning. it definitely felt like a stereotypical summer song. but as usual, the more i listened to it, the more i fell in love with the catchy tune. though, i still kinda think the mv was alright. you can definitely tell it was a more casual mv tho so i wouldnt be so critical about it. love ur honest review!
I'm actually OK with not having a jarring transition between the prechorus and the chorus here. Sometimes K-pop goes overboard with the changeups, so it's nice to just have a song keep that steady ramp-up of energy for a change.
Actually, when I read that they we're going to do brighter concept I didn't know what to expect as I wasn't sure if it was going to sound like LATATA or Senorita that is my favorite song of them. But I ended up so shocked because it sounds so different yet it still has an IDLE touch. It doesn't beat Senorita as my favorite but is such a refreshing and uplifting song.
5:50 Shuhua has a total of 9.8s of line distrib in this song lol, but soyeon compensated for it by giving her a good amount of screentime and mainly focused on putting Miyeon back to her main vocalist position this cb, so i cant be mad at that lol
Oppa Mike grandpappy of I-DLE's Neverland loves all of your reactions especially (G)I-DLE ones. Personally I love this fresh and fun Western concept MV
This song actually reminds me of Minzy's "Ninano". The concepts are very different but the instrumental and the melody are quite similar in some parts. I'm not saying that they copied, just saying it reminds me of it.
It's like in the complete opposite of the spectrum compared to Oh My God. The video doesn't convince me too. The song itself has good parts, I wouldn't turn it off if it comes on but I also isn't my first choice if I want to listen to music
100% agree with the part of “the transition to the chorus is so seem less”, cause I really confused when the miyeon’s part came, but overall IT’S SO CATCHY, lov it

Yooo how is PD so good at predictions. I'm a regular watcher and I'm always so baffled at how accurate his predictions are of a song before he listens/watches it. This is probably like the 100th prediction that he got right. WHAT A GENIUS.
The teaser didn’t sound exciting to me but first listen I was so surprised! I loved the low dark bass pre-chorus (Yuqi and Minnie) and the first part of the chorus Miyeon is AMAZING on, lastly the choreo for the dumdidumdi part is very fun and catchy. I think this is a song (G)-Idle needed to put out, the sound is very distinctly them but it’s also very approachable 👏
Something felt off with the video the first time I saw it. PD, it reminded me of what you said about Cignature's NUNU NANA video where the pace of the video didn't match the pace of the song. I felt that here and it affected my first impression of the song. Once I saw the performance video, I really started enjoying the song a lot more.
I agree! Especially the part with the bubbles feels so off sync, like you can't really take in what's happening. I also wish they'd followed the story of the intro. Their performance definitely makes the song better.
I feel like this song is from Camp Rock movie, but not one of those main tracks, the one where everyone sings and dances along with it. And BTW I love Camp Rock and its soundtrack 😃
Soyeon indeed pick the mainstream summer song to show the youth side and it's actually worked, cos her initial song actually summer mellow sound like amy winehouse type of song.
8:09 I totally agree, the first time I listened to the song I already envisioned it having like the standard 2 weeks promotion. It's just a summer song, in August on top of that so it has to have a short life.
For me it would be very hard to beat the epicness of Oh my god so going for a more fun song is good because that makes their next cool and unique comeback all the better
I might be the only one, but this song reminds me of Bollywood dance numbers and I swear there was something reminiscent of Bhangra in there at the beginning.
I felt underwhelmed at first because I don't really enjoy summer songs but hearing the song again I might listen to it, it's really fun, I just need to get over the ending part that still feels underwhelming for it to be somehow dance break I guess.
When I first heard this song, it reminded me immediately of Shakira's Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)! When you mentioned the Latin beats, I think that's exactly the influence!
i feel like they were going with a real nice and interesting story but they kind of just let it go and just continued the story through the music (and some scenes). I just feel like they could have showed more of the individual characters they all had a little more.
I mean why people complaining about a bright song from Idle? Lmao its a summer CB its suppose to be Bright for godsake dark summer cb is really good idea though like Hann
So Dumdi Dumdi is westernized because of the smooth transition? That's bull, just because the huge difference is a standard, shouldn't automatically mean defying it is westernization. Besides, one of the biggest producers is Teddy, who over-recycles all the time. People often take a liking to a song faster if it resembles another one they already know. So producers like him influence the standards to his style. (G)I-DLE, on the other hand, keeps taking risks by dropping songs that don't resemble one another much (unless they're from the same album).
