I think what's apparent - aside from their talents in dance, rap and singing - is how great the group is at acting. Ben Proulx mentions in a comment on one of his behind-the-scenes vids how impressed he was with this aspect of the group. I think it just elevates the video even further when you realise they're doing all this in front of green screens and still nailing the vibe
Most people don't even realize that entire motorcycle scene is from Terminator 2. The T-800 Terminator(Arnold) jumps off the edge into the riverbed..THEN he stops and he flips his shotgun to reload it (just like Jieun flips the XXL Magic flashlight) then shoots. Very cool.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW OBSESSED I AM WITH THIS!!! The song is fire, the concept is 10/10, the Music Video easily the most hilarious and entertaining of the year. And Loading... and Umbrella are two AMAZING B-Sides as well. What a comeback!!!!!
Ben shared in a video that when he agreed to direct Macaroni Cheese, he only had to bring it to life. The wacky concepts and story come really from Jerry and the creative team based in SK.
I am not even American, I’m from Eastern Europe, and I haven’t had a chance to play GTA myself, but I’m familiar with the concept of the game and saw numerous memes based on it. I find this MV very fun and I actually get some references, but I think it’s fun even without a context though, it just so cool how weird it is, the way this was shot, and I like the absurdly hilarious plot. Love the song, love the vibe. Excited to see what Young Posse have to offer next. Thank you for the reaction video!
There are really tons of super detailed references. I'll just give one example which is their outfit in the C-Walk dancing sequence: Sunhye: Kangol bucket hat, Fila tracksuit, Cuban link, a classic look of LL Cool J in the late 80s - early 90s. Jiana: Kobe's no. 8 jersey. Obviously. Doeun: Chan Ho Park's Dodgers no. 61 away jersey. Park was a Korean baseball player who has the most career wins of any Asia-born pitcher in history. Yeonjung: Clay Matthews's USC Trojans no. 47 jersey. Matthews was famous for his career in the Green Bay Packers, but in 06-08 he played for USC. And Jerry Shin was an USC undergrad during 05-09. These kinds of details are really, really impressive, even though many people won't notice at all.
I'm honestly so obsessed because they've been consistently this detailed in their references, it's impressive. It's a real love letter at times and others, I am simply impressed with how much they (everyone involved in the decision making) know and agree to commit to.
The thing is, American culture has become so popular and dominant in the world, that a song visually and acoustically located in California feels for people from abroad like it would for East Coast Americans. I'm from Europe and I love the music video and the song. The vibe is just perfect, especially how much enthusiasm the girls and the director and the whole crew behind the camera bring to the song.
liked the song a bunch upon first listen but i LOVED it after checking out their live stages, especially their mnet stage. they’ve grown tremendously in terms of their performance/live skills; their skills, experience, and efforts really shine through not to mention, the choreography elevates the experience even more ^^ 🧡 thanks for the reaction and review!
Gotta say I've never been a fan of young posse until now but they fully got me with this. Not only is it a 90s hip hop west cost type of song, the mv is also even better. As someone who has so many nostalgic memories playing gta 5 with friends this mv is literally so fun and gets me hyped like crazy, guess I am a young posse stan now too :)
I once saw someone comenting that Young Posse is the closest thing we have of an Orange Caramel kind of group since like, a decade ago? An you know what, they are not wrong! The only other group I could think of was Red Velvet, but even them drifted to a different kind of vibe after a while
I grew up in Asia and played GTA as a child (literal child, like 6-7 yrs old) but not sure how it is over there in Korea! I actually asked the members individually during a Fancall if they played GTA, and it seems like none of them have personally played it. I do wonder if they’re trying to appeal to the American audience a bit more in this comeback, in preparation for their US tour 🎉
dudeee this album is literally everything to me as someone who grew up in the bay and my fam lovesss 90s hiphop and rnb like its just such a nostalgic new feel i love itttt
Ben did a great job directing another YP MV. So many easter eggs. Also using characters from previous vids like the older lady amd Mass of Man working at another Massive shop. LOL You gotta see the no-CG version. Great breakdown/reaction...
Young Posse is amazing and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they are gonna change Up their style and sound engineering with their voices and music
I'm from the Philippines but grew up with a PSP and watching a lot of early 2000s American RU-vidrs play GTA while loving video games. So while I'm not quite the target demographic but I'm impressed with how they've gotten the 90s rap energy but also all the kind of gamer vibes from the 2000s and 90s. The CGI and art direction of YP reminds me a lot of those 90s/00s American edgy video game & adolescent ads as well as that section of early internet. Like it's the nerd stuff but also the nerd stuff that wanted to be out there and current and zany at the time, if that makes sense. And Ate that just screams GTA to me, even more than LA because I've never been or properly seen LA but I've watched your character slip out of car, race down that bridge with cops behind them and jankily walking around the screen hundreds of times as a kid while this music plays.
The melodic theme 1,2 3 to the 4, is straight cribbed from "Nuthin but a G Thang", so yeah. You called it right! This song is an homage to that whole west coast scene, even if we don't count the GTA references in the video.
I'm in my mid-30s and grew up in the southeast, where the West Coast sound was HUGE. I've always been a fan of GTA, so I got all the references right away. At the end of the video, when it says "The Jungle" at the bottom of the screen, it's a reference to Training Day.
@@Xile179I’ve been hearing that they collaborated, if it’s true then that’s really freaking cool and if they’re really gonna featured in GTA6, that’s even cooler!
@@Xile179 from what i’ve seen they posted on twitter that they were working w rockstar… but i don’t know for sure. what i do know is gorillaz did a similar mv but theirs got taken down by rockstar. so i’m guessing they worked w them or got their permission to use the games likeness in their MV
@@jcraftgaming76 yea its gonna have a kpop radio especially that gta6 is kinda close to year in real life and kpop is a big thing all over the world now so rockstar cant ignore it.
I love young posse since the first time I heard them on Mac and cheese. Scars is one of my fave b sides as well. Love that they’re getting the recognition they deserve
It's hard for me to fall in love with K-Pop Groups.. Up till this day i only love Dreamcatcher, GFriend, BTOB and Ateez. But, i think i found my new favorite. It's YOUNG POSSE!
As an European dude I obviously could not appreciate those references as much as you did, but still… GTA is one of the most played games of mine and although I would not believe it was possible, they did it… they lived up to the expectations of mine which I had from XXL. And to make it clear… for me, XXL is something like Say My Name by ATEEZ!! It is the: “Place a group with the most iconic/best very first comeback” and to that I would definitely say ATEEZ - Say My Name and Young Posse - XXL… Simply, I LOVE THIS COMEBACK SO MUCH!!
Ben, the director, made a funny behind-the-scenes video about this MV. They really scared the girl when "Chop," the dog, jumped against the fence to get a realistic reaction.
I love this group! This is just another great video; it's so funny because while the members have said that they like older hip hop artists like Snoop, Biggie, and Wu Tang before, I wonder how many of the references in the MV they actually get. They clearly at least know about SOME older stuff since they like older artists, but the PSP literally came out the year that Sunhye and Yeonjung were born. The other members weren't even alive yet 💀 I'm sure they've played or at least have seen GTA V before, but Doeun and Jieun are legally still too young to buy it in 2024 lmao Still, we've all played games we weren't really supposed to for our age, so I'm sure they know about it, too. YOUNG POSSE and Kiggen really seem to know and appreciate hip hop; we got the Dre and Snoop "Aint Nothing But A G Thang" reference in a lot of aspects of the song but even have a LL Cool J reference with the "Don't call it a comeback" line lmao I'm glad we have a group like this showing some love to the root of where a lot of the trendy rap that kpop uses comes from! Like you said, Ben's basically an honorary member at this point. Even though the group said that their "food concepts" are over now, I hope Ben still sticks around for their other concepts, too. Nice reliable income for him and YP get to keep their wacky CGI charm!!
Excited to go see them this weekend!! As a resident "Zoomer" these GTA and PSP references do hit for me. It's so much fun!! Amazing reactions and commentary as always, PD!!
1,2,3 and to the 4 snoop doggie dogg and Dr Dre is at the door. Nothin but a G thang Baby!!! that whole sound is a big part of the sound in this track.
When I saw them perform the song in several shows I liked it more and more. The MV really distracted me a lot from the song. So much that at first I wasn't sure if I like it or not...
I'm super late to the video so I doubt you'll read this but GTA isn' US-exclusive. It was hugely popular all over the world, I don't know in South Korea, but even in Argentina it was super popular and anyone our age would get those references... So I'm more surprised by the "age" aspect than the fact that the game is US based.
Young posse and I have a complicated relatinship, I don't like their songs, I just don't like old school hip hop really much. But I'm still hyped everytime they have a comeback because their music videos are just the best 😂😂
There has been a rumor going around that they might have a collab with gta6 and could be appearing in the game in forms of music so who knows maybe this is a hint
I did! It’s on my Patreon but it’s available for free. It’s part of a reaction compilation! You can check my collections titled “UNRELEASED REACTIONS”. I was going through some personal matters at the time and did not feel comfortable releasing videos publicly
