#NBA #Mavericks The Dallas Mavericks had an embarrassing end to their season but things could get worse. Kyrie Irving is holding the team’s offseason in his hands and there are multiple ways it could end.
Lakers trading for Kyrie sounds like a really bad move... When LeBron leaves to play with Bronny, the Lakers will be left with nothing again. For once, maybe the Lakers should choose to keep their young talents, instead of trying so hard to please their star player.
I think the obvious move would be a sign and trade. D’Lo , Lonnie , and a protected 1st for Kyrie. I see that as a win for both teams. The Mavs need more offense outside of just Kyrie and Luka and the Lakers need playmaking outside of their 6’9 point forward. Plus, D’Lo needs a fresh start after the playoffs and how bad he was, and Lonnie has shown potential similar to Cam Reddish in the level where he could end up as a 6MOY if he’s on a team that actually develops him. Edit: I mean, just look at the potential starting line ups. Lakers- Kyrie, Reaves, Rui (or Vanderbilt), Bron, AD Mavs- Luka, D’Lo, Lonnie (or THJ), Woods, McGee (or hopefully someone else signed like Mo Bamba)
@@waltg86_19 while i agree its not worth it, a trade for DLO (who is imo a net negative on any scale when trying to compete for a championship, es[ecielly considering his contract), lonnie walker (more or less out of the league a year ago) and a protected first is such a bad offer that i might let kyrie leave for free and try signing reaves for 25 million capspace that dallas would have :)
@@7c0 they shouldn't go after kyrie at all honestly. It's a bad idea. They need to stop building around lebron becuz he's older. They not gonna get that cavs lebron and kyrie. They getting old lebron and kyrie who plays when he feels like it.
The Mavs' Achilles heel even before the trade was their defense and the absence of a good playmaker next to Luka. Addressing one weakness at he expense of another by trading Irving makes little sense. Add defensive players around them and let the team build chemistry in the offseason. Even during their short time together and little preparation time, Luka and Irving orchestrated one of the most potent offenses in the league.
Its nearly impossible to get a competent defense with 1 superstar *who won’t play effective defense,* and the other star (Kyrie) who is limited in overall effectiveness by his size & injuries. Luka needs to grow up, get in shape, and at minimum give a full effort 85% of the time on D. BSo… do exactly what Magic did during his rookie* season. Luka’s the leader so he sets the tone for the team on both ends. He literally looks & sounds like KAT, Beal, and/or Trae Young when he’s complaining about “the team’s” lack of defensive effort.
@@cjwrench07 Luka is capable of playing competent defense. He definitely needs to get and maintain a healthy regime throughout the entire season. But note that Luka's usage rate has been off the charts throughout his career due to his teams' lack of skill and talent. As a result, his defensive efforts suffer. His offensive performance in the 4th quarter often wanes. Kyrie will give Luka more time to rest. But it is imperative that the Mavs improve their wing and center rotations.
@@dumbassdude8372 you need to watch Magic play, especially in the first 5 seasons before his body is banged up from the constant deep runs in the playoffs & short summers. Magic never had the horrible negative defensive stats (close outs, challenged shots, Opponent shooting %, layups as closest defender, or double-teams needed as the primary) that the advanced statistics show Luka is on pace to match Triple-double WestBrook & 2016-2018 James Harden for. But, even late in his career, when Magic was already suffering the initial effects of the HIV infection. He still pushed over the high screens and *always* gave every effort on defense. That’s what Luka is missing *the defensive effort,* and that horrible when he’s on-ball more than Triple-Double WestBrook, and just as high as Pre-Pippen Micheal Jordan. That kind of “One Man Show” on offense has always been a recipe for team failure, but boosted personal stats; *if they didn’t also play hard nosed defense* There is a zero chance for a Micheal Cooper, James Worthy, Caleb Martin, Byron Scott, Austin Reaves, Alex Caruso, or Max Strus to showcase their work on both sides of the ball in that scenario. All because Luka gives 110% effort *when on-ball on Offense* and everyone else has to sacrifice energy to keep him hidden defensively. So… teammates put in all their defensive effort, and are then rewarded with sporadic time on-ball on offense. Star players set the team culture with their play. If it’s 2-way like Jimmy & Joker are showing the team has a real chance to succeed. If it’s 1-way, then they are only getting guys who are there for the paycheck (or, why Brunson was never going to stay)
Great video, other than giving up 2- 1st round picks for Ayton in that Kyrie trade, makes no sense bc of Ayton's value is low enough where the Suns should be offering us more
@@AMHoops He's also overpaid, an underachiever, and a malcontent. If Kyrie's attitude makes him a risk, giving up picks for Ayton makes even less sense.
@@toinengwyn3935 Definitely. Kyrie is more valuable plus the Mavs will want draft compensation to recoup the Kyrie trade. I personally believe Kasey (A.M. Hoops) is a Kyrie hater on the low, the hate clouds his judgement sometimes
@@Luke-ul3xf I think that AM Hoops is following the popular narrative while ignoring the inconvenient details. Controversy sells while facts are boring.
They have to. Even if it’s just to trade him later, you can’t let him walk for nothing. They never should have made the trade in the first place but they’re stuck no
Good point when comparing Miami and Dallas. Even players like Duncan Robinson who is regarded as one of the worst contracts even stepped for Jimmy and Spo. Shows how disjointed and uninspired Dallas is that they have no trust in their team or star.
Both the OG trade and the Ayton trade are huge overpays....why would you give a garanteed 10th pick, another pick AND a top 25 player in the league for Ayton. Also OG for Green, Hardy and 2 picks? OG is great but thats an L trade for the mavs even if OG mantains his level of play, i get that we need defense but we're pretty much giving Hardy (who's a bucket & probably the 6th man if he stays) 3 picks(one of them being the 10th pick in a stacked draft) for an upgraded version of Josh Green?
dude if you were to try to trade hardy no one will give you a first round pick for him lulz, green and thj are fillers that no one really wants. either way another team will out bid mavericks for og at the end of the day cuz they got fillers and 2 picks basically. thinking hardy is worth a 1st is like thinking malachi flynn is worth a 1st cuz he was taken in 1st round lulz
@@giovanni-ed7zq THJ being filler i can see (he's a good player just not worth the salary) but Green and Hardy are 2 young players that are showing ALOT of potential and progress. Hardy in particular shows all star potential, the guy a walking bucket , arguably the steal of the draft behind Jalen Williams. Green is turning into what was expected of him, a high level role player. Also everyone has been talking these ''bids for OG'' with like other stars or like 3 FR picks and 2 role players, and again OG is a great player he's just not worth that, i called it an L trade because losing green, hardy and 3 picks puts the Mavs in a worst place, OG doesn't move the needle like that.
Kyrie isn't really worth trading for. Controversy is like almost a guarantee and I feel that if Kyrie goes to LA, there might be drama between him and another player (AD, LeBron etc.)
@@tickingtimebomb126I dont think anyone is acting like hes a scrub, its just the negatives outweigh the positives with him, he is consistently a problem wherever he ends up and his teams almost never achieve what is expected of them.
These were probably the worst "possible" trades i have heard on this channel You fail to understand that the league has changed and many of teams need to shed salary even at a premium (there might be a situation where warriors need to trade poole for a second pick or late first) and this season all those teams that have cap space (and have some brains) would be in their best position. All the free agents would probably get the least amount of money possible. If Lakers want a favor from Mavs, then rui, reaves, Vanderbilt and that last 1st. If they don't want it, let them create their own space if they can. Dallas would be able to get some juicy free agents for next to nothing this season
That OG Anunoby trade was terrible. Jaden Hardy and 3 firsts would already be too much for just OG. I would be thinking maybe the 10th and 17th pick and Josh Green maybe but I would not give up Jaden Hardy AND an extra 1st rounder that far in the future
@@woke49 it somehow makes sense, lets forget bamba and vanderbilt, and also the picks. DlO is such a net negative player on a horrible contract that I'd rather give kyrie his 5 year max or try to sign someone for the 25 mil $ in cap space.
I remember the Lakers getting swept 😂😂 and not even making the playoffs last year, matter fact they barely made it this year 😂😂 and the only reason they made it out the first round was because Memphis was hurt 😂😂😂
I think there were a lot of people, fans included that were afraid, especially considered they had already lost Brunson and were now losing more established team players. For a drama queen.
I'm surprised nobody thinks the Clippers are gonna make a move for Kyrie. If Russ leaves, they need a new starting PG. Clippers can offer Norman Powell a 20 PPG scorer Robert Covington a solid 3&D guy and Bones Hyland
Then clippers have to gut their entire roster or they can't trade for Kyrie, Clippers have 200+million salary on the books, because of Hardcap rule, a team signing & trading for player cannot go above Hardcap what so ever, This year hardcap is 169mill. So Clippers are in good position to get Trae young, Zach Lavine, FVV, etc
@@hyabberhane Blazers can get Kyrie then their back court becomes extremely week on defence,, all Portland needs is myles turner & Draymond type players, A rim protecting & shot blocking Big & an all defensive versatile defender who can anchor the defense & covers Dame's & simmon weakness in defence.
WAIT!! WAIT!! I thought these were stupid trades when it was the Kyrie/Lakers S&T and the OG deal. But that's before I got to the Kyrie for Ayton deal where the Mavs give up both a lottery pick this year AND an unprotected 1st in 2027. Casey, seriously, if you're going to masquerade as an NBA analyst, at least pretend like you have a vague idea of understanding the new CBA and how contracts like Ayton's are franchise killers. Proposing this deal is just a bad, bad, baaaaaaad look.
💯 not only are they terrible trades, but he thinks Kyrie can be traded on draft night. Casual fans might not know this basic rule about free agency, but a huge RU-vidr should know better. This guy lost all credibility.
Bro is the absolute biggest mavericks hater. He said the mavericks game up and have a losing mentality. We needed the thunder to lose all of their games to make the play in. Losing the Chicago game was the most strategic move the mavericks could have made. This is a team that has been to the playoffs 20 years since 2000. But yet they have a losing mentality? We are not perfect but they do their best to make competitive rosters year after year. Losing Brunson will haunt this team for years but to day that they want to lose is crazy.
@Gozilla He did say if Mavs havent picked Luka then they will be playing bad bball for 12 years. Idk if he's a hater or not cuz I barely watch him but most of what he said here is nonsense. Especially that Mavs Suns trade lmao
its kinda funny... Lukas perfect team would be the Nets basically. Luka needs the ball in his hands all the time and great 3 and d players with another playmaker off the bench. Luka Royce Bridges Finney Smith Claxton Is basically perfect for Luka.
@Snow Montana meh that is better than the team that went to the wcf he had tbh you have basically the 2 best 3 and d players in bridges and finney Smith. Royce a legit defender and Claxton turned into a great rim protector and solid puck and roll player. They can also give Ben Simmons a shit load of firsts Dinwiddie and Joe Harris back. Not the best haul for Luka at all but decent if he demanded a trade and did like Harden and just didn't play or played fat lol.
@@BigHolz75 Honestly, we have to stop pretending like any of us know NBA players future. Ayton is on a team that dislikes him, he feels disrespected by the front office because of the contract BS they did, and Monty getting fired doesnt change that. I think it's common sense that players who arent comfortable with the team they play for, cant play at their top level even if they wanted to. You can question his professionality, but we dont have enough insight for that. I think only if Ayton changes teams, we can really know, how good he can be and if the infights at PHX is holding him back. And really, PHX seems to think he can do better, because they complain he's not givin his all. As we know Cuban is a gambler and a forte of his is his personal relationships with players. So I am pretty sure if the option is on the table, Cuban will have a meeting with Ayton. He certainly has considered trading for him.
@@maxmeier532 Yeah, but the 10th pick and the future first are our only assets. What will you do after this trade? Luka and Ayton will not win a championship.
i think for dallas the most optimal outcomes would be a) sign and trading KI for ayton (+ maybe one first - possibly the 2027 one since they are in desperate need of depth now and by then hardaways and betrans contract will be gone and thus cap space will be available) b) sign and trade them to the lakers, but hopefully getting more useful players in return (reaves + vanderbilt? bamba is a non factor and i am not sold on the picks whatsoever - dont think they can fetch anunouby at all; probably the raptors want to trade siakam not OG anyways) c) resigning kyrie for the shortest possible time d) resigning kyrie for 5 year max LAST losing him for nothing again I don't think he is needed for the mavs especially since the last few years show that (offensive) talent alone does not win championships (see NY nets, phoenix, in parts rockets etc pp), but a well built, balanced team with the right amount of creators (which dallas also lacks - which is why they traded for kyrie; but the benefits simply were not there; i dont know if they should give them more time to gel under the upcoming contract circumstances and the lack of forward/center positions) To be honest, I also dont really like the deal for phoenix, except they get both picks back, because the team looks much like those superteams that failed winning the championships the last years. You have CP3/Kyrie/Booker (3 starting guards if Paul can stay healthy and father time does not set in) and KD, and they also have payne and shamet on payroll... no depth whatsoever, and the front court is non existent. PHX also made the mistake of letting a well built, contract wise managable and hungry team split up by going for KD. Lets see if that was wise.
I agree with most of your takes, but I think Kyrie was still the right move. Dallas needed a second star badly. Now they have top 4 player and a top 20 player. They just need to rebuild the team around them both for balanced scoring and defense. It will take time but it can work.
@@coltondodd3086 I mean the rigth move was to not fuck up on the JB contract where he was a unrestriced free agent after his rookie deal, a fuck up so bad the new CBA prevents it from happening again
@@mr_bliss1807 they could have paid him what New York offered, JB simply didn’t show up to the meeting to even discuss it bc his mind was already made. Yes they should have signed him to the 50 mil deal the year before but he was unproven, especially in the playoffs. Once they realized he should be kept, he had already made up his mind to leave. The real criminal thing was not being able to do a sign and trade since Dallas got nothing in return.
I agree mavs have a lot of issues but the tanking was the right thing, it’s not that they didn’t want to be in the play in just winning those games wouldn’t of put them in the play in at all and they knew that. Okc would of been in either way. And the 10th pick is they only chance they really have to make roster ready for next season and still don’t really have enough
@@giovanni-ed7zq So you have luka and OG with no other PG, THJ and no replacement, no PF and no starting C with no picks or cap space so they would still be going no where unless they can clone OG to play three other role ont the team at once
With professional athletes that are on Texas teams, they don't actually pay zero state income tax. The jock tax requires them to pay the taxes of the jurisdiction of the place they played games in. They do still play ~50 games in Texas each year, but I doubt that "less income tax" causes more players to sign with Texas teams.
As a Lakers fan I'd trade LEGM rn for Luka lol guy is ageing and didn't even think to leave a cent to that max so the team could build around him better
Kyrie ain't that dawg man. Lebron could've won with any PG of that level. Only way he wins a ring again is if he joins a Giannis/Lebron/Jokic tier player.
He literally saved lebron in 2016 finals. Without Kylie lebron would have lost in 4 or 5. The Kyrie hate is overblown nowadays, y’all forgetting he averaged 27/5/6 this year
Same could be said about Lefraud. Lebron had to join a superteam to win his first ring, then had to teamup with kyrie and Kevin love just to be down 3-1 & draymind got suspended, so they got a fake ring. Then he got swept when kyrie left him, didn't even make the playoffs in 2019, Got carried by AD in 2020 and just now got swept by the nuggets and got sent into retirement 😂
I used to play soccer before I injured my knees and I switched to basketball because nobody is trying to slide tackle you. I’m not as good as most players but there’s one thing that I learnt from soccer which carries over to any other team sport and that is ball movement. In soccer there’s a lot of indirect assisting that people don’t see because you can’t focus on all 10 players at once. In basketball I play with the same plan, to keep rotating and finding the right routes and throwing the defense off their rhythm. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence that European players have this advanced play making ability but if you look at Joker and Luka, they can play that role perfectly, provided you give them a team that can be coordinated and play selflessly. All this to say, what the Mavs or any other team needs is a guy(s) who can play the game like they are conducting an orchestra. The last I saw a team like that was GSW and before that the Spurs dynasty. Now you have too many highlight reel players. The Mavs don’t have a problem with talent, they just need a good mature playmaker who can unlock everyone’s bag and orchestrate a fluid offense. This is something that even advanced stats can’t predict, mentality. You gotta sit down and watch the guy in person and what he does every minute. Sometimes they don’t even stand out because the team around them diminishes their talent.
dont worry mavericks wont get og, other teams will have better offers. mavericks will just be there to drive up the price so raptors get back a better return for og from another team. no one wants green or thj, they fillers no one would trade for and to take cap space up with.
@@giovanni-ed7zq don't need OG.. Just need to resign Kyrie, trade away the 1st with a few unwanted players and get a legit Center like Allen, Capela or Turner.. Then look at free agency for a serviceable 3 and D wing

5:30 I love this trade cuz I wanna see another failed experiment of 3 stars on Lakers & seeing Kyrie relives under LeBron’s father figure 7:58 I also love this trade cuz I wanna see Suns’ bench and defense thinner than the ice
Mavs fan here. I knew kai wasn't staying after failing to make the playoffs. So I'll take beasley, vanderbilt and bamba. Also must keep green and hardy. Cant keep giving up on young guys. Im just really done with chasing free agents.
The play in chances to win were bad. They were shitty before Kyrie even got there. I blame Kidd only because he never really ran plays even in the clutch. Last season they played amazing defense. This year they traded for Kyrie cause they coudn't close games. Again blaming Kidd. They definitely messed up not keeping JB. If they could go back to the beginning of that season know what they know today they would of signed JB to an even cheaper deal than he has with the Knicks. History repeating itself by losing JB. They only have 1 option and that is to sign Kyrie to whatever he wants. They definitely should trade that 10th pick for a 3rd player. He doesn't need to be a star just someone that is a solid wing or center. Lots is up in the air we will see what happens.
@@ItsYaBoi888 you talking about that fake ass record they had before the trade. The Mavs were shit before the trade. Remember that 60 pt game Luka had. That game was going to be an L until a fucking miracle happened. Luka had 50 and all Mavs fandom was like what a waste. They ended up winning but by that point of the season I was already out. I try to watch every game. But before the trade deadline Mavs even with the record they had weren't making it IMO. Most nights they didn't have it some of those games Luka or Spencer willed them to a win. Season was the worst season I've ever watched.
We don't need to give up Kyrie for Naz Reid. If Dallas is able to retain their 10th pick and get a premium big for pieces we can get a wing as well. When the front office is thru w making moves and proves all u haters wrong I hope u remember this post.
Bamba, Beasley, Vanderbilt? You gotta be kidding. Naah. Lakers have to give up Rui at least, if not Reeves, if they wanna have Kyrie. Otherwise Kyrie goes to LA as a UFA but gets way less money, or Mavs do a sign and trade with someone else.
I’m going to say the obvious thing that nobody ever wants to admit because he’s talented - let Kyrie walk. Cut your losses. It only goes one way with him. Down.
For me personally they should give it one more year if they can’t at least get to the playoffs then out of respect just let Luka go somewhere else and have success.
The 10th, the 17th AND another future first plus 2 young players especially jaden hardy who has huge upside. If you’re the raptors and the mavs offered that you take the deal and block the phone number. That is absolutely the best value you will get and for the mavs it’s incredibly dumb to give up all our pick’s and young players. It’s basically going all in for OG
This video is full of contradictions. On one hand, it claims that the Mavs could have made a Cinderella playoff run like the Heat just did -- never mind that they wouldn't have made the play in even if they hadn't tanked. On the other hand, the video admits how bad the Mavs defense was -- which means that they could never had made it as far as the Heat did.
Luka wants Og bad. He called it out last year. Mavs need to get it done. I think the raps would do it for this package. Maybe even 10, hardy, Josh green, javale, and one future first could get it done
Lakers were an enjoyable team to watch again after the trades went down. It's hard to want Kyrie with the talent he brings when things are looking up. I hate the premeditated feeling of expecting a horrible season. It's so hard to watch, especially when theres a real limit to how much access us Aussie's have to actually watch games live.
dont worry mavericks will just be there to drive up the price for other teams that have better offers. mavericks are not getting og with what they are offering in a bidding war.
