Imagine thinking you shouldn't be shamed for breaking up a marriage and having an affair. People have literally killed themselves after learning they were cheated on / losing a marriage.
In the first series, Beals's character had an affair and imploded what was essentially a marriage to her long term partner. I guess she has the memory of a goldfish.
@@lucyhardman2267 She literally learned NOTHING! They're playing up the cheating angle again but this time it's with politics mixed in. But don't forget: she's gay, a woman, biracial and just like you!
@@SolEmeralds18I wish this was a parody where over the course of the series Bette gradually adopts Kamala Harris's voice, clothes, hairstyle and mannerisms. And they find Zombie Jenny chained in someone's basement writing about her journey to being an undead non-binary.
I always like to reverse genders when looking the situations like that. So I imagine that white male politician having an affair where her husband would later accoused him in front of anyone wouldnt manage to get away with saying "Oh well, her husband is just a cuck its not my fault that I fuck married woman who doesnt want him". In fact, I think Twitter would go nuclear if something like that would be on TV now lol. Only way I can see them pulling it if they set her up to be flawed character that learns something. Which I know they dont, she literally just says "I am lesbian and one of you and wish you good, vote for me".
@@michaelstrong5383 I don’t know. I’m waiting for an episode where neo-Christian crusaders burn their office place to the ground. That’s going to happen. *i can feel it*
"I won't be ashamed into silence!" ...oh so sleeping with married ppl is empowering now or what? No one has a problem with u being gay and in power just don't grap ppl who are already in a relationship and then blame it on the other side of the stick!
Know how some women assume men sit around in circles twice a day and ritualistically share alcohol and bitch about women and pass judgements like "Nothing is my fault, my wife is just crazy", "I'm a nice guy, my girlfriend is just a psycho bitch". That is all disgusting, right? Meanwhile four women here, sit around and talk shit about a guy who's wife cheated on him with a gay woman. And its like he has no right to be mad. "He's just crazy. He's just insecure. He's just jealous. He hates you because you're a gay woman and men hate gay women. Nah, its his ego. He just feels like less of a man, whatever that means." So you admit you don't know what it means? So stfu, then?! This episode unironically makes lesbians look like neck-beards. Wtf!
Not _just_ a married woman. It's even better than that. I pulled up the episode script, and it turns out that she was the director of a city department at the time, and woman she slept with was one of her subordinate employees. So when she and her cronies are discussing it in the next scene and they smugly dismiss that she had done nothing wrong and the _real_ problem is that the husband is insecure and the wife is totes a secret-lesbonio, it comes across as even _more_ delusional and morally bankrupt. I'm also baffled by just how confident the show is in their moral highground. They didn't even _try_ to show some kind of additional context to what happened, and the only reason for that I can think of is because they legitimately don't think it needs any more context. They have a character indignantly proclaim 'How dare they treat you, a caramel-toned lesbian, like a white man that had done the exact same thing!' and fully expect the audience to agree at the raw injustice of this.
Not only is Latinx just grammatically incorrect like you don’t just put x behind a word but it’s also dumb like no one actually uses that word except for woke people
I hate that "word" so much. Not only because it is incorrect grammatically speaking, but also because is a term used by gringos trying to impose their beliefs into a different society, and then they cry "colonialism!" and garbage like that.
@@Shiirow woke writers don’t seem to understand that their shows are actually racist (even more than non woke séries) by reducing characters to these characteristics
I have no empathy for cheaters. Some say "Don't hate the player, hate the game." Why not both? Especially as it is the "player's" choice to be in that position in this game of life?
I get morally grey characters. I normally like when characters are morally grey. HOWEVER, in this case, when you're on a serious political campaign and you have engaged in an affair, maybe the least the show could have done was say "yes, she fucked up. We're not gonna defend her actions." Instead the exact opposite happened, and that's where the problem therein lies. We are SUPPOSED to feel bad for a woman who caused an affair, and in the original series actively had an affair with another woman while married to her wife. You'd think the writers for this show would have at least seen the original series and have the character face some sort of consequences, or better yet not do the same exact thing she did before
@@mima_piedade that's exactly right. Most well written morally grey characters can own up instead of deflect and blame everyone else for it. I think that was what I was trying to get at, and you summed it up well.
@@SolEmeralds18 i couldn't believe it when bette was like "i refuse to be shamed." betch, you fucked up and now that youre in a political campaign any dirty laundry is gonna comeout. i can't believe i used to like her in the original series.
Considering that Bette cheated on her wife in the original series, I thought she would have learned something because of how devastating the consequences were. Nope, the writers thought making her the mistress and justifying it was a better approach. They should call this L Word: Buzzfeed Generation
But remember, Bette is - a Woman - Gay - Biracial - Just like you! Except we know how to be faithful to our partners and not play the victim when called out
One of my least favorite tropes in media nowadays is "I'm cheating on my spouse/partner, but it's okay because I'm cheating with a member of my own sex, so I'm just ~being true to myself~ instead of being a scumbag."
"Smack that ass" Truly visionary writers. I love how not even a fraction of a second was spent on recognizing she did something wrong by sleeping with someone else's wife and instead everything was shifted on hollow self-empowerment and self-assertion.
Unless i knew and was close to the person stealing my partner , i wouldn't beleive that person did anything wrong . That person wasn't the one i was engaged to ,and unless she was raped , i consider that the full responsability lay on my partner for cheating on me . Sure , that's still a bit dickish if he knew that she was in a relation when attempting his move , but it is up to my partner to actually stay faithfull and reject him. Maybe i just think different , i dunno . Show is still hot trash woke garbage regardless.
@@bobby31723 Well, I didn't mean that the husband should blame her for sleeping with his wife. I meant that if I had part of the reason for breaking someone's marriage, I would feel more than a bit guilty. Especially since at no point, it's stated she didn't know the woman was married. So she knew full well what she was doing. (if the married woman had tricked her, I'm, 100% sure it would have come up as a major plot point to vilify the man)
It's like they're trying to squeeze 40 years of gay jokes on tv and movies into a single product. And also misandry. Not that misandry didn't exist on tv and in movies.
So, a character has an affair with another man's wife and she treated like a victim. 1. I feel like that should be an arc for an antagonist, not a protagonist. 2. How does this not make the LGBT look like predators?
What’s hilarious is the show’s creator is a lesbian. That just shows you what she thinks about her own community. To be fair, the second wave feminists (mostly lesbians) wanted to do away with monogamy, fidelity, and heterosexual marriage. The predator stereotype is grounded in some fact. I’ve heard of lesbian professors preying on their female students.
Having been raised around Latinos, traveling Latin America, and having genuine respect and love for the cultures of south and Central America that latinx drop gave me a fucking stroke
The real craziness of 'latinx' is there is a perfect substitute already available if latino and latina have been deemed offensive: LATIN. As in Latin-American. If you tell me someone is Latin, I know what that means, it's a man or woman from Latin America. If they want gender/sex/orientation neutral, there it is.
I am also a woman I am also gay I am also mixed race That doesn’t make my personality and it doesn’t mean we have the same ideas and principles, we are completely different people 😑 being a woman and gay and mixed race tells me nothing about your character as a person just like it tells you nothing about mine
I'm a straight guy. And I'm tired of this trope where lesbian characters are just written like they're straight men. So they talk like men and act like men. And have all the negative behaviour of men is excused under "lesbian". Its like they're pandering to actual homophobes instead of the LGBTQ community.
Imagine if it was some dude who was asked the question and they went "I'm a man. I'm straight. And I'm white." It's boring, half-assed, and pretentious. Same as this. The reason a lot of us guys dislike most female leads in today's entertainment is because they keep writing female characters to be condescending shallow jerks who have nothing going on beyond "I can do what boys do but more." Just write women main characters as any other protagonist; with depth, inspiration, and a charming personality that doesn't talk down to their audience.
The way they talk, the words used, the attitudes, the complete lack of straight women, the fact that the plot is "lesbians", the personalities are "lesbian", the theme is "lesbians" and the whole premise of the show is "lesbians"... This show was either unironically written by the collective hive mind of tumblr and twitter combined, or written as a parody of the woke left by some trolls on 4chan in under 4 minutes.
....is the L word Lonely because if these people are all doing eachother i can only assume its because they're desperately searching for a partner but are too weak willed to keep a faithful relationship...or undesirable, or just really really weird
im gay and did not want to watch this new series. that should tell you something. i also couldn't rewatch the old one. i sold my boxsets. because they promote polyamory which from first hand experience i can say never works. just a bunch of stupid.
My friend went through a online phase on discord and basically found a married couple that had a fetish of some kind because my friend could not give me a proper explanation (just told me to Google it) which is code word for its fucked up. Friend and I are both in wheelchairs and we literally can't move if things go wrong I was concerned that it was totally a grooming situation. If they were serious about it, I would have literally slapped her. Thank christ, they broke up
When I was in college I had some friends who became interested in polyamory because the married couples often boasted this fake bs about how "the subs actually have power" and "you're the one who is really in control in the bedroom" and I can tell you from the stories I heard that: 1. The married couples already had a bad relationship more than half of the time. And... 2. There was never a "power balance" as some of them called it. Someone's feelings were always hurt. People go poly when they want some fresh young teen or young adult in the bedroom, but also don't want to leave whatever stability they have with their spouse. Seems that a lot of them try "open relationship" stuff before landing in polyamory. Because adding an inexperienced young person to the bedroom while already having a crappy marriage is so obviously better than couples counseling, or possibly an amicable divorce.
Kind of? Bro that was disgusting. I don't have anything against blood but, the context of that blood being in the same body as a raging feminist that unironically uses the word LatinX takes the cake for me
@@gamewizardthesecond Blood in general doesn't disturb me unless it's like gore of some shit but that shit at the beginning had me physically disgusted, I dunno, feels like the whole underwear and bikini thing.
Also, I get the empowerment and acceptance deal about women's bodies and functions. There are ignorant people, of course, who talk absolute rubbish. But, fun fact, there ARE women who are disgusted by periods. Its something they all have gotta deal with, yes. But its not a joy feel yourself and find blood randomly/irregularly, and to keep washing blood of your clothes, when its untimely and stressful.
This may be coming from a straight man myself, but I feel like even lesbians would tell their partner not to get too intimate when they're on their periods. I think that'd be more realistic and normal than what this episode showed.
I think the saddest part about this show is that it's preceded by so much woke shit of escalating shittiness that the fact that this exist isn't surprising. Actually it's kind of like the inverse of watching a pokemon evolve, instead of the surprise and excitement of seeing this creature change and become stronger you're met with the lukewarm expectation of how bad it'll be now.
I never watched the OG "L Word," and I'm STILL disgusted and horrified at this wokeified, bland-as-fuck, period-blood-sniffing, "women are kewl and men suck at everything" abomination. And I never thought I'd say this, but in the words of Helen Lovejoy, can someone PLEASE think of the children? They don't deserve this shit.
“Smile for me, sweetie!” I’m sorry but is the whole “You should smile more” really that bad that you have to act like a jacka** to the person, condescending or even hostile?
If anything, saying someone should smile more is good advice because if someone is smiling more then they are naturally more inviting to be around from someone not smiling.
Once upon a time I was getting gas and a guy who was using the pump on the other side said to me, "You look down. You should smile!" I was literally on my way to my grandmother's funeral. Sorry for not showing off my pearly whites for strangers while fueling up so I can watch my loved one get lowered into the ground. Women being told to "just smile" or "smile more" doesn't really happen these days. It was never a huge deal, but it used to happen enough to get annoying and spark discussions about it on various forums from around 2005-2010ish. If me standing in line to get groceries and looking neutral is bumming someone out then that's their problem. I mean I like carrots and potatoes but if I'm just standing there smiling by myself then I'm not going to look like a pleasant lady, I'm going to look like a crazy person. People are like "smiling is good for mental health!" yeah no you don't get a dopamine kick from forcing a smile. Having a reason to smile is what matters.
That's... actually pretty true, imagine trying to represent a community and failing and just making it all about their sexuality then being shown up by a country that don't like the people you're trying to represent but still represent them better than you do.
@@michaelstrong5383 i mean. Among the wider population of Japan consider manga specifically to be for degenerates and shut-ins who can't face reality. So there's that
I have never in my years of being cat called been told to smile by a man on the sidewalk. Feminist handbook of phrases men apparently shout is just another fear tactic to condition women into “men bad” haha
As a straight white male, the only time anyone has ever told me to smile was a black gay checkout guy at Walmart once lol. I WAS having a bad day, he totaled up my stuff, and as I'm running my card he says "What's wrong, man? You're too cute to look that sad, what's going on?" And you know, we talked for a minute and it DID make me feel better. Sometimes just knowing someone gives a damn to even ask, even the most unlikely source, can make a difference.
@@RobertMorgan Aww haha that’s wholesome I always felt public comments like that were always trying to check on my welfare. Like thanks for trying to cheer me up after crying on break after cashiering all day lmao
I’m a woman and I’ve been told to smile by other women, not men. The only times a man tells a woman to smile is when they work in customer service together or when he is a photographer and is taking a photograph of a woman.
@@khfan4life365 right? usually it’s some elderly person too telling you to smile. Smh even if a stranger did shout for you to smile it’s not a threat ?? like people need to chill.

@@ravenID429 well... We're still married, but I got an apology for suffering through the original. We ended up bailing on it pretty quickly and watching Castlevania.
Lol, I mean what kind of progressive (I assume it's aimed at them) would cheer for hard on crime Kamala "Cop" Harris? This show is just some lazy DNC propaganda.
This is why I like shojo anime.. most of the time, there's only kissing and hand holding which is shown conservatively because it focuses on the emotions and dynamic of the two characters
2:43 ok how is this not considered a form of lesbian blackface? like they literally made her look like an 11 year old boy named kyle how is this not being treated as an insult
The show title alone makes me think that this show is gong to be one of the most pandering shows I have ever seen. And there are already so many of those already, we don't need more.
The new season of The L Word is as bad that makes Queer as Folk more watchable and relatable. I mean the old seasons makes sense because of plot, story, characters etc. This one on the other hand is woke cancer full of sterotypes, shallow insecurites and bland personality.
The original The L Word already had some political bullshit, but focused mainly on the relationships between the women. They've come from an ok show to a cringe one.
You'd think Bette would've learned from her mistakes of cheating on her wife in the original series by now, as she's been separated and is now *Girlboss Supreme* ...right? But then it hits you in this series that this woman has never learned a goddamn thing. You'd think they'd focus on the relationship building and world building to get a good idea of how each of these women live and what not, but even with the first episode they FAIL.
The only reason people watched this junk was to see hot girls eat snatch, a bet you if you took out the nudity the show wouldn't have lasted as long as it did
Disgusting right from the opening. Do lesbians actually find this appealing? I'm a woman and, sex preference aside, I thought the period thing was gross af
What I'm getting is that this is just a really gross show made for that specific branch of young people who think they're rebellious and disliked by stuffed shirts for their sexualities, but are really just self-absorbed, impulsive, hedonistic underachievers with no manners and poor personal hygiene who spend their days doing Buzzfeed quizzes, and their nights contracting (or wishing they were) a bevy of venereal diseases from the same 5 people. I'm sure any normal lesbian who actually benefits society would not want to be cheapened down to ketchup-y fingers, general immorality, and Twitter politics...
I actually like the one who was the rocker chick in another show. Regardless, it pisses me off they're just letting the cheater off the hook because she's a lesbian.
The scene where Angelica says "That's her cousin" I swear is a reference to Sailor Moon and their "cousins" from the North American Dub :) She ends up dating her best friend at the end of the season.
Okay there's what seven or eight couples and not a single scene of brutal domestic violence? My immersion is shattered. Edit: I thought about it later but they all look okay I have only met one good looking lesbian and she said she was bi but was a super baby for a muuuuuuch older lady
I’m sure they will eventually bring up the fact lesbian couples have the highest rate of domestic abuse... or maybe not... I mean they apparently don’t want to even entertain the fact a gay woman in a position of power could “force” a woman working for her into sexual relations.
Words cannot describe how furious I am at the fact that this sh*t just portrayed stealing a man’s wife as a brave thing. Yeah, when he kills himself, I’m sure you’ll still make it all about you.
It seems like both of the main characters are using their sexuality and racial identity as a deflection from the legitimate grievances caused by their wrongdoings... was this intensional?
Great reaction video, JLongBone and Carl. Hilarious moment! Man, this show only raises the cringe and urge to keep a good distance away from certain people. Way to go, The L Word show. :|
