Good compilation Sam. Just looking at the striker plate on your tow hitch, could do with a spruce. I tidied up my GF's detachable tow bar on her Volvo with a very light sanding, rinse, panel wipe, let it dry in basement, then two coats of Simoniz Tough Paint (rattle can). Came up really nicely and is supposed to be quite durable. Was so impressed with the finish, I ended up using it to refurb the windscreen wiper arms on her MINI (they'd gone all ratty, faded, had what looked like overspray on them).

Cool video Sam, those LEDs really came out well. Compared to my old P38, what a ruddy huge faff it is to replace the battery on the L322! On the P38 it's just a case of lift the battery box lid, undo the retainer nuts, un-connect the terminals and you're done. Pity there isn't a way to mount one in the "boot" (or maybe there is). Thanks for the upload.

Hi Sam! Another instructive video! I get so hungry to go out in the garage and get started. There's a fairly new BMW X5 that I do not need to fix anything on! Jokes aside, I've been following Range Rover's development over the years and I just want the L322. The neighbor where I grew up had both generation 1 and 2 and the dream was fulfilled when you as a child got to go with. The range of L322s is huge in the UK. The problem is that they are right-wing. There may be imports from Germany. Here in Sweden, there are only 3-4 pieces on advertisement in the whole country. With this description, I want to thank you for impressive video recordings and your great technical know-how. We are many who will benefit greatly from your work and at the same time a very pleasant car hobby. Thank you, from Jörgen in Sweden

Hi Sam, first thanks for the videos they are really useful. Watching this video it struck me that the IID tool may help with a problem I have of the dreaded parasitic draw. What are your thoughts on this, would the IID tool help me see what is drawing current from the battery? Or do you have other ideas on how best to tackle this issue? The thought of removing each fuse then waiting 15 mins each for the car to shut down fills me with dread! BTW, I don't have an IID tool but do have a lesser but different model, and only want to fork out the expensive cost if I really think it will help. Thanks in advance, Colin

To clarify a point, the TDV8 3.6 2010 facelift does’t show current! It’s there in the IIDTool but reads 0 amps! Watch the refrigerant pressure readout and it will go up and then down as it achieves its target temp. Got me confused as I couldn’t understand why there was no current draw! It will show very briefly when the car is started but after that shows 0amps! I couldn’t understand why I was getting cold air with no motor current. The 3.6 uses a different compressor!
@SamsMotors

@ianmenai

@@SamsMotors and of course the subtle differences between the 3.6 and 4.4 engines! The biggest difference on the car is the front knuckles on the 3.6, totally different calliper mounting bracket spacing and thus casting! All the shock absorber and suspension arms are common to the L322 range but the callipers are different! All because the 3.6 and 5 litre petrol don’t use Brembo brakes!

Shouldn't cause any warning lights - I think the worst that might happen is the BMS would be over-cautious and turn off diesel heater / radio early to protect the battery unnecessarily.

Battery replacement section was very useful just done my slow and steady but definitely easier with a second person, roped teh wife into holding cables back while I lifted it out. Will say electronics box takes some fiddling with to get out until you realise it slides into a retainer and you have to ease teh bottom over it to lift off. I took out the exact same Land rover Exide battery after it struggled to get upto 12.6 and one day refused to start even though it had a few days gap since it was used. Even the tester flagged it as weak after multiple charge cycles. I used the Icarsoft CRMAX to do teh battery reset service option and then cleared all errors for all modules.

Press and hold window switch down until window fully open, keep holding down for 3 - 5 seconds, then hold switch up until window fully closed and keep holding for 3-5 seconds. Sometimes you hear a faint click after 3-5 seconds. One touch up and down should now work on that window. Repeat for remaining windows and maybe sunroof if needed. This worked for me doing Window switches on drivers door, sometimes you have to go to each door switch and do it. Hope that helps.

Hi Sam - another excellent vid thanks! My 2011 4.4 TDV8 battery has finally bitten the dust. I’ve read conflicting things on whether an AGM battery is required as our cars are not stop start. Can you advise? Additionally can I ask why you went for Halfords and how has it been? I usually go Bosch but not sure if the Costco Bosch batteries are AGM - Halfords would work for me too! Many thanks, Richard
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 6 месяцев назад
Hi Richard, thanks for the comment AGM is definitely required for these. Although they are not start stop, the faster/more efficient charging of the AGM battery is necessary to make sure the electrical systems work as they should. The battery management system is also set up to work with AGM batteries, so a normal lead acid would undoubtedly cause problems. Halfords have a decent 5 year warranty on their batteries and the price is good when using a trade card. Mine has been on for 2 winters now and is still holding up OK so far. If you don’t have a Halfords trade card, you might want to take a look at ECP or GSF and try to apply one of their discount codes to get the best price.

Sam your thoughts please.My car is a 2010 Vogue SE 3.6TDV8 facelift and on my IIDTool that current is 0A and never goes up! BUT I do get fairly cold air blowing out of the vents! Outside temp 12ºC. Also there is no reading for the interior temp! The Evaporator Refrigerant temp does vary from 6.0ºC to 5.5ºC. Also I get a reasonable pressure indicated.What does this suggest to you, low gas maybe.
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
Hey Ian, Considering that you do get cool air and the evaporator temperature shows below ambient, the compressor must be working. The 0A reading is a little strange and most likely is incorrect since the system is working. Sometimes there are multiple parameters with the same name in IID, so it would be worth having another look to see if there's another compressor current value in there.

Could you enlighten us as to what we can to as preventative maintenance to avoid the timing chain issue? Is it better to just take it in anyway and have the tensioners replaced? Love your channel thanks for motivating us to do our own maintenance.
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
Hello, and thanks! Whilst I'm not particularly clued up on the 5.0 S/C AJV8 engine, I'm aware of the timing chain issues and the trouble they can cause. My advice would be that if there are none of the early symptoms of chain wear (rattling upon start up or idling), to simply carry out additional oil services to make sure that the oil is always in the best possible condition. (E.g. reduce service interval to 6000 or 8000 miles). This will definitely extend the remaining life of the timing chain, but it's probable that it and the guides will still need to be replaced at some point. Cheers Sam

Cheers Tristan. Don't think it was that old but pretty sure it got damaged when the alternator failed a few months back - turns over much faster now and the diesel heater runs for the full 20 minutes. Quite a few have asked about the consequences of not resetting the BMS, to be honest I'm not sure. I think the worst that could happen is the BMS might be over-cautious of the battery life, and give reduced diesel heater or radio run time with engine off in order to protect the battery.

@@funnynoodle6997 DPF issues like that can be caused by induction leaks on the intercooler pipes or air intake pipes, which cause soot to build up much faster. There are 4 short pipes under the engine cover which feed air into the "donut" on top which often split or come loose. I expect that will be the cause. @SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
The Fergie was sold off initially, but recently one of the lads (Mike) has bought it back. It's in need of a bit of TLC but is mostly the same. The lads are all off doing their own things now 👍

Don’t know if my Range Rover had that reset done when my battery was changed last year ps mine is a 2008 but has recently putting a dash reading up inspection 04 2005 don’t understand
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
Sounds like it's saying it's overdue an inspection, and 04 2005 was when it was due? You can reset the interval with a diagnostics tool 👍

Gutted that my post 2017 MY Disco Sport cannot make use of the IID Diagnostic tool. LR's new Pathfinder high speed CAN protocols have put paid to that! Without paying thousands, I don't think anyone has come up with a cheap diagnostic offering that can do things like battery resetting?
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
Battery reset can actually be done by the cheap ~£100 Topdon AL600 that I tested recently. Double check it works with your Disco but should do.

Why cant land rover design engine bays as simple as land cruisers where every replaceable part is easy to access. So tiresome.

@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 2 года назад
Hey Colin, I don't think the IID would be of much help because in order for it to work the car has to be 'awake' i.e. ignition on. What year and engine is your L322?
@colintate66
@colintate66 2 года назад
@@SamsMotors Thanks Sam. Mine is a 2010 3.6TDV8 I was thinking the same but heard so many good things about the IID tool, I was hoping it would be able to help. I guess I'll have to run an amp test on every system to track this one down 😞

@@colintate66 are you certain it's a drain? How old is the battery, and have you confirmed the alternator is charging?
@colintate66
@colintate66 2 года назад
@@SamsMotors yes definitely a drain. I have had a new alternator and two new batteries. It lasts about 2 to 3 days, however I have a trickle charger CTEK MXS 10 (with reconditioning feature) which I use on a daily basis to keep it topped up.
