Great directors same as great painters, writers, musicians, architects, sculptors... make art that surpasses ephemerality and technical limitations of the medium. Alexander Mackendrick is a visual storytelling genius. Check his US noir masterpiece "Sweet Smell of Success".

I love both this and the remake. They both approach the comedy in very different ways, but I think both are pretty successful.

I've been a Coen brother admirer since I was five, saw RAISING ARIZONA & BARTON FINK in the theater. So many of their movies are all-time favorites. THE LADYKILLERS (2004) was the first disappointment and still their biggest misstep. It is so inferior to this classic I wish they'd changed more and called it something else. That said, it's still pretty decent and way better than it's given credit for. Beautiful Roger Deakins cinematography.

Stupenda pellicola, una commedia gialla che certo non è nulla di eccezionale ma comunque la sceneggiatura è ben fatta e ironica, quindi stupenda e stupenda per me come valutazione è 8.

I think you've confused Killer's Kiss with "The Killing", another excellent film.

Loved the trailer, bought the film, bored to tears. Genuinely laughed more watching Casablanca. Some comedy is very innovative but just doesn't date well unfortunately.
