The IST did something else that's really important. By the time the playoffs happen there are usually major injuries to a lot of players. This way we get to see a different cast at the beginning of the season when their legs are fresh, so I think that made the competition better in these games.

EXACTLY! It gives fans of teams that don’t usually have a chance at winning the main title an opportunity to win something! I treat it like a FA Cup. Since now it’s the second best thing you can win with the first being of course the NBA Title. Can’t wait to see historic teams like the Lakers or Celtics win multiple of these. And for big fan based teams like the Knicks, Pacers, Kings, Hawks, Sixers win it as well. Those teams like that particular, their fans have been through the trenches and deserve to see their team win something.

If you are only looking at stats to decide who and who isn't the GOAT then I'm afraid you have completely lost the plot. The fact is, all players are signed and drafted in hopes they contribute to winning, not scoring 30ppg. To use a line from a Winning Time: "in those finals I was just as good as Russell but he understood how to make those unknown players contribute". That's the difference between great and true greatness. Teams don't just win because they have a great roster and coach, in fact most great rosters DON'T win titles. Without the right star player to build around no team wins anything. It's not about getting assists and rebounds, it's about understanding your team, understanding what they can do/cannot do, and using that knowledge so you can win, AS A TEAM. This is where stats actually become a detriment sometimes. The fact is there is such a thing as doing too much and that is usually because players don't understand what they have. Even LeBron, he's lost TONS because a lot of times he doesn't really know his team. Instead of relying on his teammates more, he tries to do it himself, even though his teammates are more than capable of handling their business. LeBron may have averaged a triple double in the 2017 finals but was a useless defender, did nothing to slow KD down, and he usually burnt out by the end of the 3rd quarter. Why? Because instead of letting everyone else do their job, he tried to do it for them and it created a situation where LeBron couldn't deliver when his teammates needed him to. LeBron may have had all the stats that series but he's also a big reason why they got absolutely dominated, because he didn't do the things necessary to win, he was just inflating his stat sheet. That's why MJ and 6 rings w/ 6 finals MVP is so important. Did Jordan have a great team? You bet. At the same time, Jordan MORE than did his part and he ALWAYS delivered when his team truly needed it. That's what star players do, deliver the goods when necessary, that's literally their job. It's the teams job to keep the team in striking distance, it's the stars job to take over and win. Those rings are indicative to how valuable MJ was, not only as a player but a leader on and off the court. The fact is, LeBron has been thoroughly outplayed in multiple playoff series (that includes his last one against Denver), MJ has never been outplayed in a playoff series. TL;DR, if stats are the only thing that mattered, then why did the Philadelphia Eagles always play their best when Nick Foles was QB rather than Wentz? LeBron and Alex Caruso also prove that. Caruso statistically is one of the worst PGs LeBron has ever had yet he's also the PG LeBron did best with.
