Max really pulled off the impossible with Schmidt. Everything about Schmidt should've made him the most unlikable character on tv. Nothing about him shouldve work. He was the narcissistic money hungry womanizing sarcastic bro. The show even gave him a douchebag jar to show how terrible he was, but Max made him one of the most quotable and likable characters of any sitcom of all time. His line delivery was in a league of its own.
I love Max acknowledging that basically for the first 3 seasons Schmidt was the funniest character but from basically season 4 on Winston was the pound for pound champ!!!
The conversation about him being Porcelain reminds me of the episode when Coach is trying to train him but Winston is always hurt… now I’m laughing thinking they were making fun of real life Lamorne 😂
I don’t even think we can compare characters in the show at this point. Winston, Schmidt, & Nick were all so different. They all brought their own brilliance to the show. Nick is my spirit animal but if I had to pick my best friends, it would be these two. Geniuses. Incredible. Love them all.
It is very sad that they didnt do more to make Jess more well rounded and complete. I mean the show was about Jess, but i think even CeeCee overshadows her, its a shame
Even though it doesn’t seem like they see each other as much as Lamorne and Jake do, it’s touching to see how much regard they have for each other, like good friends you haven’t seen in awhile. Love it!
Not letting people sleep after a concussion because it’s dangerous is a myth. Sleep is fine after concussion - and actually probably a good thing. Weed on the other hand … that’s questionable medic advice.
So true about Winston's evolution. He started off as background, and then by the middle seasons to the end his weirdness elevated him so much that he became my favorite. And that's saying a lot given the talent on the team. I wish they would bring the show back with all the same people. They all look great still.
I've rewatched it a lot and it's still great but I remember when New Girl ended my biggest takeaway was "damn they never figured out how to use Winston to his full potential"
TBH I fell in love with Winston instantly - so it's blowing my mind that on set, he was basically an undefined for a couple seasons. It's a testament to Lamorne that the audience never felt that.
Winston felt like the bridge character between Jess and Schmidt And he felt like the bridge character between Nick and CeCe Also as comedic relief for damn sure lol
Mr. Morris your podcast is just what I've always wanted to see and hear. Your Jake and Max episode go hard with the nostalgia and laughs. Can you please get Sonequia Martin Green next? I would love to hear a deep dive on her stories both Star Trek, New Girl, and Walking Dead. Thanks
It’s so crazy to know that they had no idea where Winston stood in New Girl! Winston was the funniest character and New Girl would not be the same without him!
my bf was obsessed with zooey before new girl so i thought he would love watching her on new girl but he hhaattedddd the show what a tragedy he hates tv though
The amount of time I have watched and rewatched new girl is crazy its my comfort show. after I lost my 13 year old son it was one of the only things that made me smile.
New girl is one of the best shows my favorite I love Schmidt the entire series everyone is amazing in it. I would watch them talk like this everyday love it. Winston and the bell episode was iconic so it’s funny it hurt his hands so much. lol
Went from about to quit acting cause no one would hire to now being have been on network tv and streaming platforms for closing in on 15 years, awsome bounce back as Big Sean would say
Winston felt like the bridge character between Jess and Schmidt And he felt like the bridge character between Nick and CeCe Also as comedic relief for damn sure lol
"Lamorne got weird" is SO TRUE. And in doing so he might have surpassed everyone else in so many ways. All the players were amazing. But Lamorne became something new, something else. The spin-off needs to center around him.
do you think they told Max what colors to wear knowing he wld match the couch/cushions/stairs as a joke on him, or did Max knw what it looked like going in & he pulled off the joke?
It was easy to see that it was the show doing show stuff, working out who's who and such. But it was also easy-because of Lamorne's acting and their playing off each other-to see that what was happening with the character of Winston was like CeCe, becoming themselves as they got increasingly comfortable with each other. CeCe not alllllways having to be the coolest chick, and Winston, not always having to be chill (which he seemed to learn was needed for b-ball). They became their characters' truer selves, demonstrating how safe each character felt with the others, their dear friends. Those character developments were so central to what made the show.
