Very evocative video for me. Thank you. My dad flew as a gunner in Lancs with 83 and 635 squadrons and I'm sure it must have been a great relief to him, his mates and all the other crews every time they touched down like that after a mission. Sadly so many of those brave lads from across bomber command didn't even make it back, let alone have a safe landing.

That was superb. The last DC3 flying in the Netherlands as been taken out of service because the EU has forbidden the fuel as of next year and because of environmental laws. Good job the EU wasn't around 80 years ago.
@PiefacePete46
@PiefacePete46 9 дней назад
Paratroop drops, supply and equipment runs, glider towing, the Berlin Airlift... Europe would be an entirely different place without the DC3, (and the Lancaster, of course). There are times when not making a tiny bend in the rules is an insult to history!
@pete1942
@pete1942 9 дней назад
The AvGas ban and environmental/noise issues aren’t the only reasons. The DDA cite numerous other reasons for discontinuing flights of their DC3, including the termination of their lease, a reduction in flight slots at Schiphol, an increase in landing costs and the fact that their volunteers are aging and they can’t find replacements with the relevant expertise. They haven’t yet ruled out the use of an alternative fuel, but seem to think the biggest stumbling block is the lack if a suitable base of operations.

One of my dad’s work colleagues was a chap called Fred Marklow who by 1982 was retiring at 65. During WW2 Fred had been in the RAF from 1940 and his ‘role/job’ was as Rear Gunner on the Lancaster Bomber and survived. It costs more to land than take off as the brakes need replacing after 8 landings

@@Danielsjourneyuk I sincerely apologise if that is so. I flew radio control planes for a few years and used simulators quite often. I watched this video twice and everything seemed real except the sound and the runway seemed too perfect. It was as if the plane had to be forced to land. If this is real then it is as good as all the compliments given in the comments section state. I am no expert and the slow motion definately beat me.
