The breach was first reported on the 3rd June ! Nice one CRT. Maybe if funds for maintenance were given a higher priority than establishing tow-path cycle tracks the problem could have been dealt with. BTW Will.. you mentioned that the lubricant was supposedly better than WD40.. as an established and capable DIYer, I'm sure you know that WD40 isn't a lubricant :>) Keep it up Will...
@NarrowboatWill
@NarrowboatWill 16 дней назад
Oh no, I've been lubing things for years with wd40. It was reported. I don't think they thought it was serious at the time, maybe. We lost millions of gallons over night. Thanks for stopping by. 👍
@jamesgraham6122
@jamesgraham6122 16 дней назад
@@NarrowboatWill WD40 (Water Displacement 40) is designed to dissipate moisture.. great for electrical applications.. to say that it's not a lubricant is probably not correct.. it does have some qualities as a lubricant but if what you want is to primarily lubricate, something with a higher viscosity, such as you bought is more likely to ease the friction..

I bet your analysis of the cause (tree roots) was spot on. They just leave these trees to grow in random places and are blind to the damage they could cause. They would not have been able to leave them when horses pulled the boats. Cheers Will.

A great deal of excellent goods come out of China that you obviously aren't even aware you are using. Many of the parts in your cars, TV's, Hifi, cookers, fridges, freezers, phones, computers etc. If the Chinese stopped exporting the UK would grind to a halt.

Hi Will, Just a word on those low melting solder butt connectors, I used to use them for a while but stopped after I got a couple of jobs I used them on back again, over time (just 6 months or so) the solder inside went very brittle and started falling apart, the only thing holding the connection together was the twist I put in the wire and the glue that soaked into the pvc insulation, A quick pull and the wires would just come apart. Like you said cheap Chineesium. Im sure you could get better quality connectors from Lucas at a premium but for me it's back to the solder, flux and heat-shrink. Hope your not stranded and the CRT fixed the breach 👍

Afternoon Will. Well done for going to find that breach and showing us. Quite a flow on the canal even several miles away where your boat was "beached". Have to admit I thought he ain't moving that when I saw how high out of the water your boat was. But Will's Super Strength no doubt helped.😂😂😂😂. Did you have to step into the canal to get the push angle?! Some years ago there was a breach on Leeds and Liverpool near Parbold/,Burscough and local farmers dropped loads of clay in at two swing bridges to isolate the leaking section. Anyway, looking forward to the next vlog. 👍👍. Paul

Hi will you have once again produced a truly amazing video.. Very interesting and very informative .. unfortunately will these types of canal breaches are going to become common place.. In the future .. years ago they used to close sections of the canal bto carry out maintenance on the canal walls.. however when the government handed over control of the canals to the c r t. This maintenance stopped.. Years ago a fellow narrow boater came up with a system to stop the water loss when the canal was breached.. and was ignored by the c r t.. However it was picked up by a American company who put it into production . And it's use is used today by councils across the UK.. when rivers burst Thier Banks. Strange that it uses the water pressure to seal the breach.??? How do they stop the water when you have a hole in the boat .??? They cover it with a tarp and the water pressure outside does the rest. Anyway will as always keep yourself safe and well mate filthy thumbs up 👍 👍 👍 👍..

I think they're under staffed Wayne. More volunteers now. So they can come and go as the please. The crt staff that I've met are great on the whole. There's so much that can go wrong with containing water over 40 miles. Anyway, thanks again for stopping by.

You are absolutely right about electrical tape. Last week I was building a wiring harness and I needed to replace some tape that was unraveling, which was only a year old. I did some research and the guys on the electricians forums all said that 3M Super 88 was the absolute best. I bought a roll on Amazon for almost $9. It was unraveling one day after I put it on. I had to put wire ties over it to hold it on. RIDICULOUS!

It’s crazy how much the waterways have fallen into disrepair. It’s so sad to see, Woodhead and other reservoirs in the north are almost empty. Which is nuts with how much rain and flooding we’ve had this past year. Clearly United utilities and CRT desperately need to get on top of all of these breaches and dredging. I really hope that this doesn’t hold you back for too long 🤗

Also, "Chinese-ium", never heard that one before. Phoned CRT today. Breach is passable for one week from 26/09. After that it's closed again for the main repair. So, you have a choice of location Nth or Sth of the breach. Ribble Link repair starts 03/10 until December. In Dec there 'may' be a chance of crossing the Ribble. Maybe not, depending on tides and weather etc. Potentially you may be stuck on the Lanky until April. We've decided to stay the winter here, on the Nth side of the breach.
@NarrowboatWill
@NarrowboatWill 14 дней назад
Funny enough, I've just had a call from another boater, and he said 2 boats have gone over the link. I don't want to be stuck south of the breach until April. I think I might winter here and spend Christmas with my kids for the first time in years. Thank you for the info. 👍

Those on-line sites can make money at cheap prices because they: 1) Completely and utterly exploit their workers through over long hours, terrible working conditions, slave wages and a total lack of health and safety. 2) They use the poorest possible materials they can buy; which are made by another workforce just as poorly treated as the manufacturers. 3) The goods are made to exceedingly poor standards, designed only to look the part on the website and have no quality or useability. But people don't care that what they're buying is on the back of the extreme exploitation of a bunch of strangers halfway around the world, only that it's cheap. 🤦‍♀😠
