Intel ditched their own foundries and went with TSMC (like Apple and AMD and Qualcomm) for most of this chip's logic circuits (TSMC is used for the GPU, SOC, IO tiles in prev. generation Meteor Lake) and also on-package DRAM like Apple's ARM chips.

The thing is, Microsoft didn't update their Surface Pro and Surface Laptop with this new Intel chip. Why? Out of all companies they surely knew what chips Intel had coming and they have used Intel chips on their previous generation of Surface devices. If these new Intel chips are so superior, why would they go through the trouble of improving Windows on ARM, pushing new machines and so on. I have problems with trusting Intel, they are notorious liars and these new chips smell fishy.

x86 still has many years to evolve. ARM will always be weaker. The problem was that the only two x86 companies, intel and AMD, where very much "confortable" at their position. ARM is giving them some competition that they really needed and they are now finally evolving the x86 architecture again

They needed the competition, I just hope that now Qualcomm and Apple will also go and do so some big steps forward

sleep works really good with snapdragon, i have this computers "sister" the yoga 7x and i have almost a whole month worth of idle with some light use almost every day and still have 25 % battery left

With the Snapdragon I've not had this issue at all. Seems to be an Intel problem.

Its a shame W11 broke that,, for me my lenovo p16s has W10 where sleep works battery loses 1% over night and thats fine.. After 24hrs it goes into hibernation and 4 days later lost 5%.. When W11 fixes that i will update

Since Snapdragon laptops don't have this issue, I think the problem might lie with the architecture itself. Maybe there is just no way to achieve a decent sleep state on x86. I refuse to believe that Microsoft cannot figure it out.

Here's the thing, while there absolutely are people for whom this is an issue (and they tend to be the kind of people who write tech reviews, unfortunately), for the vast majority of average users, it's literally not only not a problem, it's something they've never heard of. So constantly overspeccing devices to appeal to people who have exceptional needs forces the price up for everyone. In a way, even this battery lifespan war is kind of stupid. Most people tend to use their laptops near places they can plug in (even Starbucks recognised this and have 'laptop bars' where each seat has a plug), and NOP ONE uses their laptop for 22hr a day (well, not for long because after a few weeks, dementia would creep in and possibly death, yes, literally). The 22hr+ battery life thing is a marketing gimmick that mainly tech bloggers care about. Yes, better battery life is better, but is it necessary? For most people? No, not really. This is why everyone (other than Apple) makes lines of hardware. If you want the best of everything, you pay more. If you don't, you get what you actually need and pay less. What makes this chip exciting is that it may bring better to more people at a more affordable price than Qualcomm seems to be able to do.

Actually snap dragon started the long lasting battery on arm trend. However it had no performance to match that’s where Apple came in along with intel quick sync style media engine chips that made video photo work rendering encoding faster than the gpu or cpu alone that’s if you have enough memory.

Don‘t get too excited though. Energy efficiency means the most amount of power with the least amount of energy. The benchmarks in this video are minimal and misleading. These chips will be slower than M3/M4 if they want to reach the same battery life. If someone doesn’t want to show you the whole picture (all metrics), he still has a message to say.

It shows how well or badly calibrated the hinge is. And how much care the brand put into the laptop. All hinges can be calibrated to the point of being opened with one hand and still being solid and not wiggle. This perfect calibration requires a huge effort and I think its completely justified to demand it on very premium laptops. You can skip this on cheaper ones, but premium laptops should have perfectly calibrated hinges.

@@tonn333 a good quality hinge does not wear down as much as you think. A stiff hinge will stay stiff almost forever. It might lighten up a bit but it will never be as smooth as a well calibrated hinge

@@pingpong1727 Active VPN connection, apps like Slack and email clients and Firefox. Even brand new, out of the box laptops never got me more than 5 hrs. Even if the tests are done doing light browsing the entire measuring method should change, because it is a manipulation tactic. It should at least be able to keep the 8 hrs apps I mentioned but it does not. 1080p screens...4k screens...I always use them indoor so light isn't at eye burning lvl, yet they've all failed ::(
