Roman, a channel called geologyhub said that in the 50s-60s, the US used a plot in that general area as a bombing practice range. He was warning about getting too close, in case of unexploded bomb casings in that area with TNT inside reacting to the heat of the lava. He admitted he was no munitions expert and was asking if someone who is, could advise if this should be a concern. He put this video out on about day 4 of the current eruption, i think, if you want to view his vid on it. He at least showed what the unexploded munitions looked like when folks had run across them before.

@skyedog24 yup. I saw it, there were also bunkers, and I almost crashed a 37-passenger bus into a bunker in 1988.

@skyedog24 thanks, Skydog. I see it and about to watch now. I didn't know HOW far I'd have to scroll to find it...turns out he reported less than 24 hours ago. Thank you again. I did not get that notification.

@thecollierreport wow. You'd a thought they'd have filled those in. I guess frostbite, spewing lava, lichen on fire, dangerous volcanic gasses, unexploded bombs, and ravines from previous seizmic activity isn't the only hazards in iceland. Ya gotta watch for foxholes, too!

this is one of the best drone video's that I've seen so far because of the direction of flight you used as well as the night time flight....we get the see both lava rivers coming from the fissure...great job...

I grew up in a volcanic region in New Zealand. I have always been obsessed by thermal activity, volcanoes etc and have a degree in Earth Sciences(but I'm no expert on anything). I've been to Hawaii and helicoptered over some fresh lava fields(really wanted to get up close and poke a stick in it though). But THIS, seeing this kind of activity in Iceland right now in person, would be the ultimate for me. I think it's nature at it's most impressive and I find a lot of nature, hugely impressive.

Utterly, frighteningly wonderful. It’s glorious. And yet the damage it can do is also frightening. Mother Nature at her best. Thank you and please stay safe - and the drone 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

I believe I remember this channel mention, where this current cycle started, that there is an 800 year volcanic cycle for Iceland volcanoes. Could we get anymore information on such a cycle if you know anything more on it?

For anyone watching and thinking aboht the wind, this isn't your typical windy day, these can be 40-50mph sustained winds with higher gusts. Windy days in Iceland would likely get you a "high winds advisory" in your area, but it's normal in Iceland.

The way things look the lava fountain looks to be about 1000 feet high and maybe a bit more.this would also coincide with what the mid-Atlantic ridge is also doing.

Not end times for another 1000 years yet, at least. An astronomy course can tell you how to figure that. The clues are literally written in the stars.

I gather they closed off a lot of the roads. How close was the place you could get your vehicle to? And then how many kilometers did you have to hike to get where you took these videos?
