@@dontactlikeUdonkno Still terrible English I put the apostrophe in as a suggestion, They forgot to add "Age of" For a channel that are supposed to be science communicators it's terrible English. So what else did they get wrong?
Now you know how the enemies of Hannibal Barka felt like when he crossed the Alps with them XD it wasn't oh lordy that big mount can do some damage, it was AAAAAAH A MONSTER
Nothing like finding out youtube hasn't been showing channels in your subscriptions list again. Seems they're pushing Shorts hard instead of what we actually subscribe to.
Consistently one of the best channels on all of RU-vid. Fantastic bite-sized videos, great subject matter and great presentation. I rarely send money to RU-vidrs but I just love your Channel
I'm surprised nobody is talking about the pangean-gondwana war going on. The Pangeans are trying to squash the Gondwana religious groups that emigrated over and combat has broken out over the last few months. Horrible stuff.
Great program, could easily be extended to an hour, so much information to absorb. Good graphics too, gets more realistic over time and the details of tectonic shifts are really well done. Great job, Alex! Since I was a child in the 60s I've wanted a time machine so I could scroll through earth's history just like this! Perhaps I was one of these alien scientists....?
Dragonflies, and a lot of bugs, absorb oxygen through the surface of their body. So when oxygen levels got close to 40% they were able to support a much much larger body.
ehhhh…*partially* true, but the main reason they got so big was because there weren’t any other flying animals to compete with. you can see this by how paleodictyopterans and griffinflies survived into the Permian.
Thought I was gonna get a 17 minute video on the largest extinction event in history, instead got history of earth and a 5 second mention of an extinction event
I am also curious to know about the smaller creatures of this ancient past, such as small insects. I also feel like I am missing some information about how these first mammals came to be. I am curious to know more about it, and also the predictions of the movement of continents in the future. It's super interesting!
PBS Eons here on RU-vid is a treasure trove for information like that. But the gist of the mammal question is this: Dimetrodon and others are what are called "stem-mammals" because they were sort of a transitional stage between reptiles and mammals. They weren't direct ancestors to modern mammals by any means, but they got the ball rolling. Over time, evolution and adaptations changed these stem-mammals into more overtly mammal-looking creatures, like Synapsids and other mammal cousin groups. Eventually, what are called "crown group mammals" emerged, and those are basically the "root" of the "mammals as we know them" tree.
I'm a retired evolutionary biologist, and I really enjoyed this, and nothing annoyed me, unlike so many evolution, fossil, and dinosaur videos that I've seen. This was a real pleasure to watch.
totally addicted to Astrum. i've never subscribed to any RU-vid, Twitter, FB ect ect. content before.... but it's totally worth supporting this channel and content.
I really appreciate that he uses footage from films and stock footage instead of just using AI generated images, I've seen far too many youtubers using AI lately and it's disheartening. Good on Astrum for taking the time to find all the footage he uses for his videos!
Good information. Not much related to the title though. It's just a short survey of conventional history of earth. With an odd background story about alien scientists.
There is actually a theory that the Permian-Triassic mass extiction WAS caused by a large asteroid impact. The Wilkesland area in Antarctica is likely an impact crater 500 km in diameter that was caused by an asteroid with a diameter of 40 to 50 km. For comparison, the Chicxulub asteroid which wiped out the dinosaurs is thought to be "only" 10 km in diameter. Is is thought that the Wilkesland impactor not only killed a lot of species directly, but it also caused worldwide volcanism (especially at the antipode point in Siberia) which was another main cause of the mass extinction.
So i know you already commented that a lot of your models are contested, but there's pretty good evidence that a decent amount is dinosaurs actually were warm blooded. A lot of your information is really dated.
"Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns." .. wrong .. these shifts can occur very rapidly when the catalysts for those shifts very rapidly occur and very rapidly accelerate.
Having read Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" three times now, I am absolutely convinced we as a species haven't got the faintest clue about ANYTHING. This scientific arena of human endeavor is merely entertainment - much as a circus ring - both for the performers and us plebes in the audience.
Crustal age global maps confirms Pangaea but there's a catch, it makes sense on a smaller planet earth. Recent theories suggest that planets grow, that's what crustal age maps show.
A tad off topic may I first say a well researched and presented account indeed, I find it interesting that plants are carbon sinks yet they are geo engineering 2 dim (read killing photosynthesis )the Sun remember when the skies where blue and the Sun had a golden yellow tinge ,look up now 2 the washed out skies thanks to spraying aluminum, barium and strontium plus a concoction of other nano particulate matter but I digress I do that ,I will see myself out.
not that this is boring, stayed awake watching when im super tired cuz i was interested, but you should do longer form videos…like an hour, i could definitely fall asleep to that lol
why is there is so many advertisement about AI? if it was realy good and easy there would be no need for advertisement, its just like the bitcoin its so unusually good and fantastic that it has advertisement all over the internet something tells me that it me by a scam, so be Aware of this, i dont belive that this is as good as they said it is.
Here’s a question astrum, what classifies the earths birth, like is it when it started forming from dust, or is it when it reached a certain mass? What did scientists use to determine this.
I remember my FIL calling me a liar when I talked about continental drift. I know my FIL was not stupid, but he he wanted to establish his power over me. Instead, he appeared foolish. I moved a thousand miles away to get away from him.
Interesting video. Earth scientists (HKU) studying our 5000 or so underwater volcanoes have postulated that oceanic water temperatures and weather are far more influenced by these volcanoes than was previously realised. I wonder whether we have underestimated the effect of volcanism on both cloud formation and climate and whether the research might change perspectives on the possible cause of the Permian M.E.
We are barely a few months in the anthropocene age and it seems like it’s going to be a short one the way we are going hahaha. Imagine the aliens surprised when they discovered our remains
You really didn’t do the Permian extinction justice here Alex, so allow me. Referencing Peter Brannen’s book “the ends of the world” the late Permian extinction was kicked off by a magma plume surfacing from beneath a 12km layer of coal the size of the continental US in what is now Siberia. This triggered a massive explosion and initial die off and the Siberian “traps” ended up depositing a layer of flood basalt 2km thick in a very short amount of time, geologically speaking. Maybe a million years or so. The amount of toxic gases like sulfur dioxide and CO2 released acidified the oceans and caused die offs which then robbed the water of oxygen. Additionally the ocean temperature eventually exceeded 100 degrees which was hot enough to produce “hypercanes” which are an almost mythological scale of storm that covers whole continents. Computer models suggest wind speeds over 500mph. Now consider the water being sucked up into them and then dumped out is toxic and acidic. Roughly 95% of all species went extinct. Even full blown nuclear war couldn’t do to life on earth what the Siberian traps did. Even if we burned all the fossil fuels that remain today at once we’d need twice as much to reach the CO2 levels of the Permian extinction (some estimates as high as 30000 ppm). It was a truly mind boggling hellscape of a time and the creatures that survived in their precious few sanctuaries are our heroes, the reason we got to exist.
The most scary event, to me, was when I learned about the Toba supervolcano explosion event that almost extinguished humans from the face of earth. I think it would make a killer video (no pun intended).
I know of a point in time called the boring billion, or boring million. I remember watching something on it quite a few years ago. I am wondering if there has been any new insights into earth's history and if you could perhaps summarize it with the alien visitor flavor as these are great for my kiddo to learn.
the best part of this video was the beginning comment that not all scientists agree on this. the age of the earth and all these theories are guesses that cannot be proven. The age of the earth and the universe is dependent on the current speed of light being constant throughout all time - and it’s not. Big surprises ahead for you “scientists”.
Well remember pit of hell thats underneath the crust and i believe there was a huge build up of gases in the crust and them plate tectonics happened it released a bunch of gases at once. The dinosaurs we have left probably was at an area that wasn't too concentrated😢❤
I really enjoyed your videos. You are doing a fantastic job! However, I noticed that the video about Earth's history wasn't as strong and seemed a bit superficial in some contexts. It might not be your area of expertise. I'd like to offer you a recommendation, which of course, you are free to decide upon: Perhaps it would be better to not focus further on this topic. There are other channels specialized in Earth's history that might cover these subjects more thoroughly. Instead, I strongly encourage you to continue harnessing your magical and captivating strengths in the realm of space and planetary systems. It's truly your expertise and can captivate the audience. Thank you for your hard work!
Abstract : The energy that dominates the earth is very great, some of it is natural, like the heat of the sun and volcanoes, and some of it is human action, by cutting down trees, without replacing them and cultivating in their place... There are five forces that control or dominate the planet... 1- The first theory (horizontal dynamic movement) and its end... The occurrence of storms, rain, floods and snow, at unexpected times and places, is because of the expiration of this theory, which needs to be balanced... 2- The second theory (vertical dynamic movement) and its end... This movement or force controls or dominates the earthquakes, earth cracks, drying up of rivers and lakes, earth openings, mountain collapses, and the emergence of drinking water springs on the ground... It becomes out of control... These phenomena increased due to the end of this theory... The third theory: it is water that rotates the earth... The fourth theory: the Earth's axis of rotation has tilted 2° degrees... The fifth theory: The Earth has a new orbit...
