Super exciting to watch this car sell! Wow, been following this car and the 'story' of how Bob Colvin was able to acquire it since around 1990. Really happy it sold for that amount. Just a historical piece of American musclecar history that will now have a new chapter in it's history. I can just imagine how much dedication it must have been to preserve this car for all those years.
Thanks for posting this. Bob was a customer of mine at the local machine shop. And my wife used to babysit for the Colvin’s years ago. She told me that Bob let her sit in that car around 1992 while it was parked in a room at their house. It went for about double of what my estimate was. That’s just nuts!!
Completely agree with several of the comments here and thank you pjboosted for sharing this wonderful video of this historical event. I am glad to be part of the Buick Grand National family. - Keep up the great videos! =)
Well, prices do seem to be UP for these cars after that auction so you may be correct. I was thinking about selling my 87 GN but having 2nd thoughts, LOL. I probably couldn't swing one in the future if i sell her. My 87 is NICE, new paint, mint interior and some tasteful mods. Was offered $30k for her last year at a cruise night. Only 109k miles on her, but looks like a 40k miles car! Glad I kept all the stock parts if I ever choose to bring her back to stock.
I have a buick facts and figures book I purchased from Atmore Alabama back in 1990 it has Calvin's story of the car and Calvin and his family got to go to the G body plant in Michigan to record and document this last GN built its so crazy seeing it as it first rolled off the assembly line back in December 11th 1987 very epic love those Turbo buicks and this one only having 33 miles on the odometer
I was at BJ and talked to the owner of this car. I asked what he thought it might go for and he was hoping for 200-250k. I am happy he got 500k for it.
This video is now a piece of history. Any info on the buyer? I wonder if he'll show it off or privately continue to store it. Time will tell. Great video!
I was there this year. The VW 1960s micro-bus with the upper windows was one of the “hottest” vehicles. There were about 8-10 of them there that sold from $30-85K. Lots of more “common” cars, too. Lots of fun to attend. Note: the hand-made cardboard signs on this GN seem a bit cheesy.
With all due respect, those hand made card board signs were made from the employees at the assembly plant who built this last Grand National and the Last car that was built at that assembly plant , "The End " marked the end of a historic vehicle made and the end of their jobs at that plant, those signs are memorabilia and pay homage to what was created and what all came to an end on that very day that last grand national was built. Read the book or watch the movie.
@@bernardwatson3739 Thank you Bernard. Was just going to post a response about the "cheesy" sign comment, but your response is exactly what I was going to say.
@@bernardwatson3739 i agree those signs were from the auto workers at buick i own the book you spoke about in your comment i remember watching the documentary its was a piece of history that its so epic and sad and emotional this car is a piece of buick and the last of its kind and a milestone in automotive history
Wow I remember seeing this buick in Black air documentary he had this car in stored in a bedroom on Jack stands i also have the story about this car in a buick facts and figures book I purchased in 1990 wow this buick is worth half a million bucks I remember when they were new they were about 18 k the gnx was about 30 k now those turbo buicks are worth a mint I miss those G bodies they don't make cars like this anymore
@@paulcorreggio4925 Exactly. In fact it MUCH rarer then a GNX as there's only ONE "last Grand National". And the history of this car will mean it will ALWAYS be the 'cream of the crop' of Turbo Regals.....
You know what's really disgusting?!?!? Today's so-called Buicks are rebadged Chevys all the parts are China The Buick envision is made by some Korean company the VIN starts with a L!!!! Most Buicks are built overseas and shipped here in the US... IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BUICK!!!!
Yea, they pretty much went downhill bigtime starting in the 90's. I can tell you for a fact, that the highlight era for Buick was when these Turbo Buicks were sitting in their showrooms. When the new front wheel drive platform Regal hit the showrooms in 88, I'm SURE the dealerships noticed. Damn shame....
@@ct87gn25 true. I grew up with and have owned front wheel drive 3800 powered vehicles, they were great car's! It seemed like after 2002 ish and definitely when the 3800 went out of production Buicks were JUNK! To me it seemed like when there were no more numbers on the temperature gauge just a C and a H that's when GM cars really turn the crap!!!
