African Sri Lankans, mainly the Sri Lanka Kaffirs, are a very small Ethnic group in Sri Lanka who are descendants of African mercenaries, musicians, and labourers taken to what is now Sri Lanka by Portuguese colonists during the period of Portuguese colonial rule on the island.[3] There are currently around 1,000 African Sri Lankans. They live in pockets of communities along the island's coastal regions of Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Negombo. The Portuguese colonists used them to fight the Ceylonese Kings.
The main African Sri Lankans are known as Kaffirs. This term is not used as a racial pejorative as in other parts of the world. Some were originally Muslims, while others practiced African religions, but many have now converted to Catholicism and Buddhism. They speak a lyrical creole language with a mix of native Sinhalese and Tamil.

It's even much older. There were different waves of Africans at different times, 40,000 years, 3,000 yrs, 1,000yrs & 500yrs ago. They were the indigenous people of south Asia: Philippines, South India, Sri Lanka and parts of China.

Black people left Africa in all directions: through the trans-Saharan route to Europe; the Red Sea route to the Middle East, the Indian Ocean route to India and other Asiatic countries, and last route the Trans-Atlantic route: to the New World: The Americas….North & South America including the Caribbean Islands. Yes indeed: African migration to different parts of the world started long time ago and it grew exponentially during colonialism and the demand for labor on the vast land to produce cash crops:coffee, sugar cane, cotton, etc to enrich those colonial masters. 👍🏿🇺🇸

That is why videos like this are so important in my opinion.

I imagine that it must be a bit of a hassle and unrealistic thing to fall in love with someone far away even though from their own country. Once people migrate and live in the new society people will of course fall in love with someone they get to know and like. It's not a must to fall in love and marry from your origin country. As far as free love goes you can marry anyone. Also intermarriage in the same community is harmful to the health of any children born as overtime the children can get severely interbred and more prone to genetic diseases. As far as I'm concerned it's already past 21st century and the whole world is a global village and sometimes its silly to just segregate, after all we are all the same homo sapiens sapiens species, its also not a game where you lose or win. I used to work (bartending) in a golf resort, here in the U.K. and I had a customer come to the bar, having a casual chat, he just randomly asks me if I’m from Sri Lankan. I laughed! I corrected him. But I still found it bizarre because I’ve always known Sri Lanka to have fair to almost white complexion. That’s all I saw on the media. I was shocked years later to meet a Sri Lankan woman who looks just like my second cousin from Zambia, same hair texture aswell! This video just sealed the deal for me. Thank you Marwa 💗

Hi Marwa Thank you very much for this video, I have never been to this village but I have had a few close African friends doing their post-graduate in Sri Lanka. Those guys used to tell me and my mom, that we look African and we have some Afro-genes. I never believed that, but seeing these amazing people I would accept that comment and it is a big-time compliment. I was sometimes mistaken and recognized as an African and I see now something is there with me and my mom as well. Thank you Marwa, let me find my traits. ❤❤

Brotha Marwa your a man after my own spirit. I also luv meeting Black people in places were most people would never expect to find them. Unfortunately the entire world has been tainted by anti-Blackness dew to various forms of white supremacy. These conditions are being brought down but at a very slow rate. But one thing I'm always encouraged by is the children and how they always seem very eager to embrace people who are different. I luv these people in this village, and I thank you brotha Marwa for this visit and for introducing the world to these beautiful people 😃✌️💯

I think she was saying that in around 1550 the people from Africa came there, mostly men, and those men married local ladies and that’s how the village was started in the jungle which was quite wild, and full of wild animals. When they look at the photos they are saying mama, which does not mean mother, but uncle. Mama is uncle in Sinhalese. A bit confusing, basically amma is mother, and mama is uncle… the teenagers said the plants you asked about were ‘pink mal’pink flowers, so just a flower garden. If the older people were children in the sixties or before they will speak English, after that everyone was educated In Sinhalese. The younger children now mostly pick up their English from tv and internet.
