And when every other character did wrong they were called out on it. But when Felicity did wrong? No way. Everything she did was ignored or portrayed as justified, she got undeserved praise, every character talked about how great and how supposedly good for Oliver she was and so on. Oliver got called out when he did wrong. So did Diggle, Laurel, Thea, Sara, Roy, Curtis, Rene, Dinah, Nyssa, all of them. But not Arrow's resident Mary Sue Felicity oh no.
@@aaravos4371 they dicked the team over many times and never apologized. Oliver was forced to do it and yet apologized multiple times. Fight bn oli and dig was poorly written . It was neither the time or place for it. The writers just wanted them to fight and said hey let em fight for no reason that is valid at the time
7:47 Yeah seriously, I always found laughable how Oliver is being called out for killing people when the majority of the team’s powers are “has guns”. Worst thing is, Oliver never calls their bullshit out, he always puts up with it and says nothing.
@@thomasraines1396 Which sucks when you consider his characterization. I kind of tuned out when he was trying to train the new recruits and they were whining about how hard he was going at them, and then he was brought in a position where he had to apologize for going too hard. I was like “what the fuck do you people think you’re signing up for here?” Especially cringy when you consider one of them was a vet.
@@alexman378 he had to apologize for “going to hard”? Are you fucking serious? Also like barry in that he inevitably has to apologize regardless of if he’s right or not.
@@thomasraines1396 Yeah, seriously, they seek him out, he keeps telling them this isn’t a life for them, eventually they keep pestering him and he starts training them with the same intensity that would be required if they were fighting hardcore criminals on a nightly basis. The whining is never ending and they act as if he was the one who called them in the first place. The guy spent five years in life or death situations to get to this point and then another 4-5 after he got back. In the meantime he was stabbed, burned, shot, tortured, even nearly killed by the leader of an international assassin organization, and these guys were whining because he was mean during the first day of training and their fweeelings got hurt. After he apologized for it, I was like “yeah, fuck all of you”.
@@thomasraines1396 The final straw was when they had a gun control episode. When half your team’s powers are “shoots guns” and you get into shootouts every day, you don’t get to say anything on that subject. It’s kind of like the irony in this video, where Diggle scolds Oliver for leaving a trail of bodies behind him, when he probably has an equal body count by this point.
Kingpin from Daredevil season one, is a great example of how you do a "city infiltrate by secret terrorists" storyline. Ricardo Diaz felt like a worse version of him. However, I don't see how the Diaz twist was predictable. The writers kept the audience guessing without making it obvious. With better pacing and trimming the fat though, his reveal easily could have been the mid season finale, instead of waiting until episode 13.
Fisk was a good gangster villain where there was more to him than just "gangster." But Diaz was a generic gangster character who the writers tried to make seem scarier and more dangerous than he actually was with stupid shit like Black Siren saying she was more frightened of Diaz than Zoom. When a serial killer with superspeed is more of a threat than a guy who wants to take over a whole city just because a guy bullied him when they were kids. The bit when he killed his former bully was forced "He's done something really evil. Be scared of him now please."
I don't know if anyone else remembers this but when they announced Diaz's casting, he was stated as the season's main villain (I think his casting was a bigger deal than Emerson as Cayden). I remember when they had Cayden as the main villain I was confused bc every article I saw listed Diaz as the big bad.
@@mjwilliams5496 I think at first they wanted to reveal that Diaz was the main villain straight away but then they decided to make him a twist villain.
Yeah, I kinda felt like he was portrayed as more of a generic goon with maybe the slightest inkling of strategic planning, someone who would probably be a one and done villain in season 1. I thought he could have used some more buildup along the way before they did a 'haha, t'was me all along!' thing and made him the main bad guy.
It was a Rocky Road with Many Highs and SO MANY Lows, but I'd be lying if I said wasn't sad to see the Show End. Goodbye Arrow, thanks for the Memories.

16:18 I could not possibly agree more with everything you said. Stephen Amell is stupidly talented, dedicated, and he seems like a great guy in real life. I really hope that he doesn't get type cast in the future. I'd love to see him branch out and move on to more successful projects.
Hi, if you haven't yet, go listen to Stephen Amell's episode on 'Inside of You'. It's a podcast by Michael Rosenbaum, yes the guy that played Smallville Lex Luthor. It's Episode 96, it was recorded not long after Arrow had ended. That episode just goes to show how much of a hardworking, humble, professional, and just all-around astounding guy he is.
man, i hope stephen ammel has a carrer after this, he is a good actor, chill guy, and really passionnate (i still remember he did all his stunts by himself for the tmnt out of the shadows movie, and they cut his scenes with only 1 action scene to make place to Turtles and Krang)
There actually is an explanation for that. The Writers were pretty much outspoken that they hated Laurel. And I mean that quite literally. They openly stated that she would NEVER get a canary cry if they have any say in the matter. To the point where the flash writers had to put it in during a crossover. There are also rumors that the sole reason they brought back Sara was to kill off Laurel. And Guggenheim at one point basically fanned the flames by hinting at him not wanting the Black Canary / GA relationship but preferring the OC Felicity one. And of course they kept telling everybody, even after she became a heroine, that black canary would not be a focus. They hated her.
S1- Great Start S2- Mind Blowing S3- Mediocre S4- ..... PULL THE TRIGGER, PULL IT MOTHERF*CKER DO IT DO IT!!! S5- Impossibly Fantastic, the finale is pure gold. S6- First half was eh, you know.... but then ep 17 onwards it was pretty great. S7- Prison Arc beats everything.... the rest is trash S8- A Good End.
I love how Rene, Curtis, and Dinah get mad at Oliver for keeping secrets when he knew one of them was going to put him in prison. And then when Oliver gave the other team intel, but they ignored it and found their own intel secret.
I mean they didn’t know that :/ besides they felt like “why should Dig and Felicity get no surveillance?” Bc...they didn’t really get it Idk why ppl hate on Season 6 tho, like sure it’s a little slow but some-SOME-of the Netflix shows are too
I think CW writers and producers have been lied to and had secrets kept from them a lot in their lives because they're obsessed with portraying secrets and lies as worse than actual crimes.
I like how Ra' Al Gul was a meh villain compared to Diaz and Prometheus. Its not like Ra' is a fk all villain in the comic but the show has been shown middle finger to comic readers for years
As a comic book fan I was very annoyed and insulted by the treatment of certain character in the arrow verse. It is why I stopped watching. CW does not give a monkey's abouts comics or comic fans
I‘m always annoyed when people use comic accuracy as a measure of quality. This is a different medium with different creative voices, which can’t just do the same things. These shows can’t just copy the comics and they shouldn’t. And as a result the characters will be different, act different and look different. They should be rated as characters on their own and not just as the counterparts of comic book characters. These characters are loose adaptations and that’s exactly what they’re supposed to be.
Well I am sorry but there is a small part of me that loves the source material and it be nice if CW actually showed some fucking respect to the comics and be a little more faithful to them. And even if I did judge the show as its own thing, I think it sucks. Most of the Arrow shows started well but they have slowly gone downhill. The flash especially is just unbearable ever since S2 and Legends is a fucking joke. As comic book shows they are lacklustre and as their own shows, they are still lacklustre. If you like them that is fine but I just do not give a shit. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get that off my chest.
@@jonasstark7148 @Zemo X2 If they want to do a series based off a beloved comic the least they can do is not shit over the core material. I am not advocating they follow strict comic book accuracy but continuously spitting all over the material is nonsense and shall not be rewarded with blind following. If they wanted to do whatever they please then they should have just created a rip and not use the names or story of The green arrow. Create their own show. The very reason 70-80% people started watching the show and how it grew is thanks to the title and familiarity of the name so they do owe comic gans something. At least not kick them in the balls when they are not looking. Some respect would go a long way
@@zemox2534 yes diaz was a hige huge threat who was beat by olie in a half assed fist fight in jail. I ve seen better fights in an average bar fight lol. Of they wanna build someone up fine. It's amazing how, not just Arrow, but the Arrowverse as a whole went downhill with their stories and characters. I mean these shows have become unwatchable.
Was there a writer's strike? I think, a while back, I heard that the later seasons had a different staff from the early seasons and they didn't want to touch on the stuff from the early seasons, like the Flash writers apparently totally dropping the whole "FLASH DISAPPEARS IN 2021" article from the future thing. Somewhere along the way, maybe season 4 of Arrow and 2 of Flash or maybe even during season 3 of Arrow it started, the stories got taken over by a much lower quality writing staff that just tried to play into a status quo and used tropes to manage their stories and progression. Which is why every time a character completes their main development arc they kill them off (and yet try to somehow still give a happy ending in following arcs, like Laurel 2 coming to Earth 1 and bonding with the Earth 1 Officer Lance, Oliver's saving his mom in the universe he got dropped off in thing. Heck, Roy's death was faked and then they just patted him on the back and sent him off). They had a great thing going, but maybe they just got stretched too thin when it expanded to multiple shows or something like that, hard to say
Arrow had more good seasons than bad and Flash so far has had more bad seasons than good. To be honest Flash has not been good since season 3. Don't get what they are doing with that show.
The problem with the later seasons was that they saved all the big stuff for the crossovers but the crossovers really only succeeded on the back of the chemistry of Benoist, Amell, and Gustin
The writing of CW shows might be here and there but one thing I'll say is that one thing they always seem to nail is casting, ALWAYS. Whether it's Barry, Cisco and Caitlin or Oliver, Diggle and Felicity the chemistry between these characters always felt so real and never forced. CW also always manages to develop a great emotional attachment between us and the characters you always care about the main characters no matter how flawed they are. The characters are actually real. The character development sometimes moved in circles and did hurt their shows a little but it was still handled well. All in all, this show left an impact on me and I'm sure it did on countless others as well.
I got even more finality out of the show because of this video. I remember about 3 years ago i started to watch your resumé’s on these shows and i loved it. You say they are bad now but i find them to be really good and i hope you won’t delete them as they are always a blast to rewatch to me and i think you are right about a lot of stuff. I’m happy you made this video as for me it was the icing on the cake for the Arrow ending.
Especially The Flash Season 3 one. I remember telling my friend to skip out on S3 and to just watch that video. He thanked me afterwards and we had a blast quoting it😂
Yesss!! I was surprised he didn't like his old videos, he has been objective then as he is now and those videos were the reason I have enjoyed his channel.
@@diegoabche Exactly. This video was an improvement, but I can honestly say that they all belong in the same tier. Normally I don't watch videos this long, but he just has such an amazing sense of humor that I get hooked 🤝
S5 ending was the perfect moment to kill off fluff characters like Diggle, take Felicity out of play, bin off the terrible Mr Terrific actor, so much more. It was the opportunity to go back to basics in a time where he'd come to rely on his team too much. I wanted to see Oliver struggling to keep up with a crime syndicate that has recognised he's vulnerable. And instead of doubling down on his teams, Oliver himself has to get smarter. He has to pick his battles. Up to the first half, he's the hunted. He decides enough is enough after a major loss, so changes his strategy, instead of attacking them all - he singles them out using his position & divides to conquer. He makes allies out of enemies, but stops the Holy cruscade crap & backstabs them when the opportunity presents itself. As his team get reintroduced - make them recognise that whilst they dislike this version of Oliver, sometimes they need to take off the gloves when things get desperate. It creates the perfect point for Oliver to commit to the Arrow & loses Felicity entirely. That relationship was so toxic by S6. I want the majority of cast members to be villains, in one way or another. It's hard to care when 5 heroes are taking down 1 baddie. It's much more tense when 3 baddies corner 1 hero. S6 was the biggest disappointment, even if S4 was the absolute worst.
Ending this video genuinely was a really cool way to do it. I feel pretty much the exact same way about Arrow. And while I’d never call it a masterpiece at any point, I also owe it a lot. Oliver Queen will always be a character I hold close to my heart.
8:36 the CW shows should take a page out of Agents of Shield books and split the Season into distinct pods that flow into eachother. (I.E. The first pod tells a closed story that leads into Pod 2 and they tell a closed story that leads into the last pod of the season
@jockadoobee The number of episodes a season should have is either 10 or 13. Less filler that way. Having an episode count in the 20's just means you have to jam pointless shit into the show just so the main plot doesn't end in just a few episodes.
It still kinda gets me that Felicity got over killing thousands of people in a single episode. And then it is never mentioned again. What kind of psychopath do you have to be when that storyline is done for you after 45 minutes.

The 23 episode season format panned out well enough for the first two seasons but after that the Arrow writers should've simply taken a page out of Agent of Shield's playbook, going for the pod structure spanning anywhere from 8-12 episodes per villain/problem/... Also, the island exploding should've taken out several of Ollie's allies, such as Wild Dog, Lance, Thea and even Felicity to shake up the status quo and streamline the bloated roster. Mr. Terrific provides competent tech support and Ollie might've gotten closer to Black Canary.
Currently binging the Arrowverse for the first time and just finished Arrow, my ultimate takeaway: anyone can change. This show portrayed countless stories of redemption: Slade, Malcolm, Sara, Anatoly, Earth-2 Laurel, Dinah, Sebastian Blood, Moira, Roy, Nyssa, Maseo, Oliver, and so many more I’m probably forgetting. But, it also showed the other side of the coin, that anyone can also fall to darkness: Ivo, Cayden James, Andy, John Diggle Jr., Ra’s, and Waller. Ultimately, the show’s main message is that we each have a choice in our lives to rise to the light, or fall to the darkness. This is also present in other shows in the Arrowverse (mainly Flash and Supergirl), but Arrow is where it is most relevant. I will always miss Arrow and the journey that it took me on with Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen.
I literally skipped Crisis on Infinite Earth cause from the start I had a feeling it would be done poorly, and I'm glad I did cause from what I'm hearing and seeing, all my expectations happened and I miss nothing.
I think Emiko was originally supposed to be a hero, then halfway through they decided to make her a villain. The Emiko we first meet is not the same as the Emiko we say goodbye to.
RU-vid Algorithm: “here’s an hour long final review about the show Arrow!” Me who hasn’t seen an episode of Arrow: “Man you really suck at recommending me shit; yeah sure I’ll watch it.”
I think Stephen Amell did a good job, writing and budget is what held Arrow back, but I think he could pull off being Green Arrow or even Batman with the right writers. His acting carried Arrow in its darkest times.
Yeah, for sure. Arrow still has its problems but its not as bad as the flash was. The writing in cw isnt always the best, but its part of the charm, yk?
Ironically enough it was actually your original videos on Arrow that got me to watch the show in the first place. It had many flaws, but I came to really enjoy it and it affected my life a lot more than I thought it would. Glad you decided to finish the show and make this video. It feels like everything has come full circle with this show for me.
I honestly think that people should give the majority of Arrow a lot more credit. Sure it’s not a perfect or the best written tv show I or many others have ever watched, but it’s a lot more than a “poorly acted and lowly budgeted soap opera.” Some of the actors have real heart in their roles. And when it comes to Arrow as it’s own show, it’s stories are so good that they’ve created some of the newer characters in present day DC comic issues. Sure Felicity could be better in some seasons, and Curtis can be annoying as all hell. But the show is able to communicate some of the better (if lesser known sometimes) characters and their arcs in a well done show. Hell I prefer Oliver in the show to most of the iterations in the comics. In the comics he’s far too close to another Flash much of the time, but in the show he has an added layer of nuance that I feel is complimented very well through some of the more important characters. From John’s lack of emotional control in certain situations, to Felicity’s abundance of emotion in even the mundane, to the Lance family’s views on justice, the show makes for a very good story that I feel stands up to the comics of the same characters (those that are in the comics) Flash and the others can be hit or miss to the point where I haven’t finished any of the others entirely, but Arrow is just a good show. Not the best, but a good one nonetheless
Stephen's performance really made the character. I wish the show didn't get hampered by being stuck in with the other Arrowverse shows, I feel like they did more harm to Arrow than good, but I especially enjoy the early seasons of Arrow, before all of the "every enemy is a martial arts expert that can also shoot a bow and arrow" fatigue hit in. Also before the super powers and melodrama became too prominent. But, overall, a pretty good show. The DCAU Green Arrow is also a really great version of the character. Pretty different, but very well written and performed
@@supersayinwmenify read many actually, been reading DC since I was a kid. That’s why I love Arrow and have mixed feelings on some of the other series. Like, Arrow is great, Legends is pretty great too (except for Savage they ruined him), Flash is good but got stale at points in my opinion, Supergirl was rough but had some good parts or arcs, Batwoman is a hard pass for me cause of how they wrote the characters, and haven’t tried Black Lightning but I’ve heard good things. And I’ve read comics for the main characters of each of the shows except Black Lightning, so I’d say I’m at least a fairly informed opinion
Arrow was a unique show in its own way, to the opening monologue in the beginning of every episode(My name is Oliver Queen) to the fights, the action, the acting by Stephen Amell everything is phenomenal.I really enjoyed it at a time when I was struggling the most and starting to watch tv series to escape reality.Yeah its no Daredevil but some of the seasons(1,2,5) are some of the best tv seasons put on screen.Thank you Arrow, U HAVE SAVED ME.
In the end I believe Arrow was the best show of the Arrow-verse.....The Flash came close but other than Arrow S04 everything was fine.....season 1 2 and 5 were great and season 3 6 and 7 were fine whereas every show just kept on getting worse every season
I think it says something that I've watched all of this show and still remembered none of the things you brought up in this video I didn't even remember Oliver had a child
Best quote: "He had one of those personality things." (And, really, bad as season 4 was, the actor made Damien Darhk fun to watch, no matter how tedious the episode.)
I completely agree with this take on the show. It reached a point where the storytelling was incredibly predictable. Blackstar shows up as a new mysterious character except she’s a tiny blonde like felicity, shes participating in an underground fight club like Oliver, her first scene is literally a transition from Oliver & Felicity having sex to William seeing Mia for the first time and look at that, Oliver, William & Mia all like to drink scotch. Oh my gosh! Who could she possibly be?🙃 This show definitely wasn’t known for being subtle. That said, even with its ups and many, many downs they still managed to make me care about the main characters. I wanted to see how the story played out for Dig, Oliver, Felicity, Quinten, etc and I’m glad I did. For all its flaws Arrow introduced countless characters, launched numerous shows and created an entire universe which is incredibly admirable. Most shows dont make it 100 episodes much less 170. And strangely this silly show about a guy with a bow and arrows inspired a rampant online community, spawned some real and lasting friendships and raised hundreds of thousands for charity.
As someone who dropped out of the Arrowverse after season 4, these videos saved me hundreds of hours. And that's not even an exaggeration, surprisingly.
From S6-8, it was a just a constant mix of sub-par villains and the constant need to rake Oliver over the coals. The rest of the characters, good and bad, could do as they pleased and Oliver is the only one punished or judged by himself or others. CW hero shows have really lost steam the last few years. I came to resent every character for their words, actions, and lack of admitting their mistakes, and that included Diggle. A character I never thought I'd dislike. They were never forced to learn a lesson for their actions either. S6 was the end for me.
Honestly if I can have one tiny difference that would have turned Crisis on Infinite Earths from a 7/10 to 7.5/10, is if he shot the sky beam into the Anti-Monitor. Like uhh... an arrow.
We had Zoe . A child we saw for 2 seasons as a grown up in S7 for a couple of episodes Just to kill her off for no reason in S8. If someone deserved to be a main character in the new season it was her than 'Conner who' , who had no reason to be there. He was Just put there for cheap attempts at romance.
The big problems with Thea came from Willa Holland asking her character to be reduced starting with season 5 then eventually asking to be written out entirely
I loves this video series, and I'm happy that you stuck with it, it definitely wasn't perfect but overall I still love it and feel the same way as you do about the bad stuff fading away and remembering it as a truly great show Great video :-)
Splendid! It's been super interesting watching your experience with this series so closely match my own. I don't know how you find the patience to make such entertaining long-form videos but it's incredibly impressive. Well done, dude. Question, what mic and input system do you use?
Supernatural is one of my favorite shows. I like that it was only supposed to have 5 seasons but instead went on for 15. The world and menagerie of monsters and lore made up for a lot of the cheesy dialogue and over emphasis on feelings for me. Plus, Charlie. I mean, she was a great reappearing character.
The best stuff in season 6 is the break up of team Arrow all the cool plots and relationships in and outside of the group and the forming of the Outsiders there rivalry and arguments with the left over members of team Arrow the fight between the two teams was one of the best fights in the show truly peak television the fight was amazing season 6 is truly one of the best seasons of the show between this season and season 5 are the best line ups or best version of team Arrow I was so mad when Mr Terrific left the show but this is the best team Arrow in the show

Good job Ross, I still haven't finished the show. Had no desire to do so but you've convinced me to go back and rewatch the final 2 seasons... So thanks for a recap and everything.
Even though I fell off of Arrow around season 5 (as well as most superhero shows, that long form cw mandate is an absolute blight) i still have to respect them for managing to bring a conclusion to their first real universe kickstarter series that Im sure amassed a rather large and satisfied fanbase
13:00 holy shit, for a second I thought they mentioned the ninth circle in s6, but nope, it was "the quadrant", which I literally forgot existed until now
They did Emiko so dirty. Her and Oliver are a great team in the comics. God I wish they used Emiko and not. Whoever this is. Because that wasn't Emiko.
