The last Boeing 747, a -8F is the 1574th built of a production run that has spanned 55 years. Join me in the final B747 delivery Ceremony at Boeing Everett factory.
Listen to Boeing’s current and former CEO honoring the “incredibles”, John Travolta talking about his love of B747 and Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr announcing the upgrade of their 747-8 cabins. I spoke with Charlie Trippe Jr, grandson of Pan Am’s founder Juan Trippe and many Boeing employees who worked on the 747 line with their stories and emotions.
The last B747; Atlas Air N863GT departed Everett the next morning at 8:19am. She received a water cannon salute, followed by a quick takeoff with a steep climb out. Then she performed a low flyby to say goodbye! Later, she drew a 747 and a crown in the sky!
Over the years, I have been fortunate to fly on the 747 a total of 282 times, with every model from the 747-100 to the 747-8F, from 747-SP to SR to SUD and Combis. There are many memorable ones….I picked some special 747 flights to share with you!
747 Forever Incredible!

The 747 represents a new life for me and my parents transporting us from Korea to the US as immigrants way back in 1973. And since then it's represented to me travel to faraway lands. Every time I see its unmistakable profile, I feel a combination of wonderment and nostalgia. I mean, a four engine giant, people wonder how does something of this size go airborne? I miss the days of boarding 747's on Northwest Airlines, UA, KAL, and Pan Am.

I am 56 years old now. When I was 8-9 years old I remember watching the movie Airport 75. It was at that point when I knew in my heart of hearts that the 747 was the most beautiful Aircraft ever built. I remember sitting in classes in school doodling all the time drawing the 747 on my folders, scratch paper, always drawing and thinking of the 747 and how awesome it would be to a pilot of one let alone just get to fly on one. Well, my health at that young age and the family life didn't allow me to pursue the dream of becoming a pilot. I remember watching all the movies and shows that had the 747 in it. There were a couple of occasions where I was on vacation trips doing stop overs at major airports and seeing the 747 at it's gate and even on taxi. I always stood there in awe as I looked and watched it. To this day I have never flown or even touched a 747. My life is not over and I know the 747's is not either. Maybe as the rest of my life continues I may be put into a situation where I will get that chance. Long live the 747! So sad that Boeing will not be producing the 747 any longer. However, I do assume there will be many of former workers and builders of the 747 employed with the manufacturing of the parts to sustain the 747 that are still in use. Thank you for these video's. As I watch each one about the 747 I can not help but feel very envious of you. Fly on!

I don't know what it is but there is something about the design of the 747 which is extremely attractive for aviation lovers. As I was a kid, my father took me to FRA International for watching planes the whole day and taking photos at the visitor terrace (T1). I watched the Lufthansa 747s there from above (the terrace terminal terrace is outside and much higher than the planes), like 3 or 4 of them side by side parked at the boarding bridges. I was absolutely amazed by this plane and the look of it. Especially the front part of the 747 with the very beautiful looking bump. I was just determined and total in love with this plane and the whole aviation thing. By the way, an airport is like an amusement park for me, it always was. My first flight from JFK to FRA with a Lufthansa 747 was the best flight ever. I also love the Dreamliner but the 747 will always be the Queen of the Skies.

I haven't itself been on a Boeing 747, but still, I grew up in an era of 747.Its pretty sad that the era of quadjet production has ended. In fact, the Boeing 747-400 is my top favorite aircraft, and I would forever remember them even if they're gone. Because we all relate to the queen of the skies

I live in Everett WA and was 8 when the first 747 flew out of here. I am now 60 and it is amazing that it is only now being retired from production. I have friends that helped build this plane. I drive by the building often, it is an awesome sight to see. Boing will always be a great part of our community.

I am fortunate to have flown the Queen for 17 years and 8500 hours. I flew the 100, 200, 300, 400, -8 and the LCF. I worked at Tower Air, Japan Airlines, Kalitta and Atlas. Presently flying the 767, I’m planning on flying the Queen once more in the near future, the best way to finish a Career. Long live the Queen!

I was 4 years old when I became one of the passengers of 747 back in 1970's...it was the Pan-Am Airlines, I could never forget it as a child, and it looked so beautiful. To this day, nothing compares to it whenever I look at the airports and sadly I don't see one anymore in my area. Please bring this plane back Boeing, I wish they could just upgrade the engines to a single a single efficient long distance engine.

What a great video Sam! Thank you for your amazing work. You are so right that you always remember your first love. For me, it was a Singapore Airline 747-400 departing from the Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong on a rainy day of February 1996. Even after more than 20 years, I could still remember the scene I saw from the window, the noise I heard, the vibration and the acceleration I experienced during the takeoff roll, just like it happened yesterday. The moment has ignited my love on flying and aviation forever. Now whenever I see a 747 being retired, I have to try so hard holding my tears. It is truly a mighty and elegant engineering masterpiece.

Hi Sam. My history with 747 started back in 1978. Airline was back the Canadian CP air. It was my move to Canada,Toronto. After that KLM,Luhthansa,BA flights took me over the bond (Toronto-Helsinki-Helsinki-Toronto) for years. And yes.. 747 never had direct flights to Helsinki. Of all the planes I have flown I have to say 747,all types, have a place in my heart forever. PS. Not forgetting Concord. But that's another story. Love watching your videos Sam.

Hey Sam, I just came across your channel and froze once I saw the 747, my all time favorite airplane!! I was on the first flight ever of a 747 Pan Am flight to Liberia in West Africa. There had been a bad tropical storm on our approach to the Robertsfield Airport. We landed very hard and bounced very high, once on the ground, the airplane slid off part of the runway. Exciting flight nonetheless!! Thank you Sam for posting events like this, it brings back lots of memories. This is Alan, GREETINGS from Riverside in Southern California. God Bless you friend! Alan

Brought tears to my eyes. My last flight before retirement was flying an EVA Cargo B747-400F Singapore to Taipei. It was a bonus seeing the resurrection of the EVA Cargo aircraft from the graveyard. I saw the arrival of the first B747 at LHR January 1970 while taxing out on a B707 pax flight to Singapore. At the time I could only dream of many years later seeing much of the world from the light deck of the B747 I flew a lot of Boeings but none compared to the Queen of the Skies. Thank you Sam.
