Adults don't realize that what happens in your childhood can effect every aspect of your life as you get older. Richard Pryor was physically and emotionally abused by his father and grandmother and this childhood trauma caused him to develop dismissive avoidant attachment in relationships.

Richard sounds like a Borderline Personality. The whole "I hate you don't leave me" mentality... Always testing partners to push them away before they can hurt him. Sometimes sleeping with men, constantly self-medicating, ever shifting self-image. And it's totally understandable given his upbringing.

I like the fact that despite his setbacks, Richard was able to make people laugh.

Feels like there should be a part 6, at least.

We need to stop wounding the children. It is a lifetime of suffering.

I wish I could learn my lesson and not watch ABC videos. You never get the last part (after watching 4) without searching frantically. 😠😠😠😠😠

PLEASE GIVE US A RICHARD PRYOR MOVIE TO HELP THOSE THAT ARE SUFFERING HEAL, PLEASE!!

Interesting that Paul Mooney wasn't included in this documentary considering his longtime friendship and creative relationship with Pryor.

He made a way for a lot of upcoming comedians before he left this world.

Richard married Jennifer twice because he was very sick and couldn't take care of himself. Jennifer married him because she was able to have his estate once he passed away. Richard was broke and very sick in his last days he couldn't take care of himself. That's why he married Jennifer twice. I also heard how much she actually hates him. Richard was his own demon. I'm glad Pam Grier loved Richard so much that she didn't discuss his personal information with everyone. All of these women complaining about Richard chose to stay so they should shut up!

I bet they only focus on the two white women (especially Jennifer since she’s the only one they could find to speak on him) and none of his black wives or his relationship with Pam Grier (she actually taught him how to read among other things). And I feel like Jennifer keeps feeling the need to reiterate that Richard married her twice in order to some how get through to the audience that she was “special.” News flash honey, you aren’t the only woman he’s married twice. All of his marriages (including the one he had with you) were insanely short. I will admit that her and Flynn were probably the only women he actually loved the most since he married both twice. I do feel like that maybe Jennifer loved him more than he loved her, I just get that vibe from her for some reason. I also find it annoying that she’s the only woman or wife that’s ever invited to talk about him when he had 4 others who are still alive. I would love to hear what Flyn and his other wives had to say about their relationship with him. The woman in his life knew what he was. Some were convinced they can change him. Other were not lady in waiting. They were victims in waiting. Any domestic violence is sad and tragic for both parties. But their are some, Few, that live to hurt people.
