So sad, even tragic that that whole way of life and the steamers are gone. Yet through film, the memories live on as so numerous steam locomotives do still. They even race each other! May they run forevermore. And may there always be dedicated, devoted fans who maintain them, run them, and ride behind them in the thousands. And that includes that child and his/her pals.

Great stuff, the 59 class were all built in the 1950s by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Many would think they were built by Beyer Peacock & Company, however, this is a distinctly American design. especially by the position of the headlight on the smokebox and domes on top of the boiler, also some were converted during their careers to burn a mixture of coal and oil, this I believe was due in part to the cost of oil, so it seemed more economical, if that is the right word to burn a mixture of oil and coal.

In those times sign on at Enfield 46 class to Gosford then steam to broadmeadow I remember working the flyer at speeds of well over 70mph with a 38 class and always on time the inspector was waiting on arrival at Sydney to check the time

What a awesome memory. I lived not far from Enfield and remembered hearing Stream Trains, when I was little. The sound, is edged in my mind.

At this stage, we will have to wait and find out what happens with 3813, I believe it is stored at Dorrigo. I don’t understand why it wasn’t rebuilt after the overhaul in 1973.

Unfortunately with its few remaining parts, bringing 3813 back to steam will forever remain nothing more than a dream. Especially as long as Dorrigo is involved. As far as I can ascertain, many parts were scrapped when the decision was made not to complete the overhaul in 1973 and the few remaining parts are stored out in the weather at Dorrigo. Further complicating matters is a hole has been cut into its boiler. Very sad indeed as it's the only remaining Cardiff built 38.
