I really enjoyed this film, and your interview with Erik Jager makes me really want to check out the book. It's interesting to hear about the differences in the material, and it was something I was thinking about after seeing the movie. I knew some things must have been changed to appeal to movie audiences, but I hope the movie encourages more people to look for the book

This was very interesting to listen! Thank you. Enjoyed the movie - if one can say so given the subject matter. Didn't deserve to flop but I only found out about it when I saw the armour memes. I guess not a lot of people are aware of its existence, plus maybe it's too dark and heavy for people to choose to pay to watch right now.

Sometimes I wish that Trial By Combat was normalized in the 21st Century for Civil Cases. There would be a lot less malicious slander on social media for starters.

There is no proper reason trials by combat should not be allowed nowadays, honestly.

⚘A family movie is "The Kingdom of Heaven", about the Crusades. Do not take the family to watch The Last Duel; they will be bored to dead, (also scenes of rape & violent sword fighting).

I can't describe my joy when I clicked on this thinking the video was 5 minutes long, only to realise it was 57 minutes.

It's a fine movie, but not for every one, not for children & teenagers; (due to scenes of rape & violence; also very boring for them). Only recommended for history nuts! 😃

Well, the first 2 chapters (and final 4th part) were good, the only boring part was the 3rd chapter due to already knowing precisely how things will go down, and there were no severe enough differences. The only thing the 3rd chapter was for was making Margeruite out to be the only good person in the entire story while literally everyone else is a bad horrible person...

Sir Ridley Scott was the perfect director for this film , regardless of how it turns out in terms of money made.-----------MJL< 75 y/o

It unfortunately did not do well monetarily. It was a great movie nonetheless, and it will get more recognition as time passes

Kings And Generals did a _very_ great review of the actual Trial By Combat that inspired the movie.

I recommend watching the movie trailer in RU-vid, so you have an idea. Many scenes are a little dark, but it's because in those times people used candles & castles tended to be cold & dark places.

I couldn't get beyond the awful CGI two minutes in. (Wasn't that a medieval church in already ruins over to the left?)

It was pretty good but a bit overlong, and also, if you saved someone’s life in a battle or they saved yours, that’s not something the two people would interpret differently, it’s something that happened one way or the other…

I think the idea is that Le Gris _does_ remember being saved by Carrouges during the battle. But, he also remembers that he only entered the fray in the first place to protect Carrouges. Carrouges doesn't know that Le Gris rescued him by supporting his charge. We also know that the characters' perspectives are unreliable. I think it's likely that all three versions of events seen in the film are supposed to be a mixture of fact, misinterpretation, self-delusion, etc. It's possible that the "rescue" did occur, but wasn't as decisive or heroic as it is in Carrouges' memory.

To be fair, it's a great historically accurate movie! Please read my other comments. Another movie like this is Ironclad, although very violent.
