(the last ever) chatty uni q&a! | uni regrets, getting a tattoo, future plans + more! AD 

It’s crazy how similar I felt to how you’re feeling coming up to my finals. I was also the one putting in more than 8 hour days at a level, I also was so stressed during my prelims (but I didn’t get a first hahah) and by my finals, what with a combination of the pandemic and horrible family circumstances, I was just DONE. It all seemed arbitrary as you say, and I also felt like I’d ‘fallen at the last hurdle’. I wasn’t even doing close to the hours you are, but as you say it’s just not possible to learn everything you ‘need’ to know anyway. I did actually get a first in the end (JUST), but as you say, the nature of Oxford exams is that it just depends on the day. Not working crazy hours just shows what I had learnt about myself from being at Oxford, and that I had grown and learnt to put things in perspective a bit more. Hopefully you’ll see it the same way this time next year 💗

Darling Eve: We are SOOOOOOOOO proud of you!!! So INCREDIBLY proud of you! We don’t care about the grade, though we hope you will do as well as you want. We care about you and you have grown sooooo much! Whether or not you realise it: Your confidence back when you were just a teen, doing Beauty Spectrum videos, came not from within yourself but from acceptance by others. NOW - IT IS ALL FROM YOU!!!!!!! Yes, you still and will struggle with it (we all do), but my darling, YOU have made the healthy changes, YOU have earned all the good reports and grades, YOU have put your studies first, YOU took yourself to BOTH Berlin and Seville in CHAOTIC times in the world and YOU got up each day and made the most of it - EVEN with Covid and EVEN with a weird roommate at one point in time. YOU learnt ALL the vocabulary and idioms and phraseology and grammar and USED it to YOUR advantage when living abroad. YOU even taught foreign students!!! YOU got the internship at the Radio station and then the actual job! YOU worked your way out of the pain of that relationship back in Year 1 and YOU figured out what YOU don’t want in a relationship in the future and where YOUR priorities lie as well. YOU went through changes in the family and loss and STILL held on! YOU made it possible to take Mom and sis to see THE Billy Joel through HARD WORK AND EFFORT. YOU made sure to make time for the people who count the most in your life, even when that time was limited and for me and my gang too! YOU figured out what YOU want to do as a career and how you hope to get there. YOU dealt with A LOT of health issues whilst STILL working and studying and EVEN LIVING ABROAD! Oh my darling Eve. I could go on and on but, truth be told, you are doing A LOT better than you think and self doubt and worry are VERY NATURAL states of mind in EVERY person, whether 16 or 106, I promise you - I could very well be 106 in my brain sometimes! It can be a force for good when channelled into energy and focus, which is EXACTLY what you have been doing!!!! Now my mom hat (was I not wearing it before??) My sweet, darling Eve: Be filled with life! Go and do what makes you happy, but do it for YOU not for OTHERS sake. Friendships come and go and, the older we get, the less opportunity we have for cultivating and nourishing them all. Here though is the thing: TRUE friends (and I hope we are that) are with you forever! They stay in your heart and in your mind and they DON’T keep tabs on how long it has been or how frequent your get togethers. They APPRECIATE that life is busy, for all of us, but that in a time of real need, they will be there, if not in person, than through whatever way possible. In times of celebration, they will be there, again, in whatever way possible. As someone who left her home country and moved to another, I can tell you, ALL of my True Friends back home are still my True Friends now. If I call them up and say: Hey, how’s it been? They answer or make a date for us to have a longer conversation. If ANY of them are going through something, they KNOW they can reach out and I will be there 24/7/365 and I have been. I have made a small group of True Friends in this country too and it is fantastic, but we may go months or even years not seeing one another and that is ok. True Friendship is unconditional. As you continue to grow, you will figure out who your close true friends are, your not as close but still true friends are and who are your friends by proximity only. Having even 1 close true friend is all you need to feel loved throughout the many years ahead of you. How you hang out will change too - especially as you are all either in or entering the professional world. Time becomes a precious gift. Finally, you had Covid TWICE along with some other health struggles. It is not a surprise you get tired and need a nap nor that you lose focus. Staying in the same environment for hours on end doesn’t help either. Fresh air - even just in the LMH grounds, can help. Won’t solve it all, but can help. Ok. Mom hat off again. WE ARE SO INCREDIBLY PROUD OF YOU MY DARLING, SWEET, BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT, HILARIOUS AND GOOD HEARTED EVE!!! Love Always, 🌹

I know its completely different, but I'm about to do my GCSEs and I feel the exact same. I have worked so hard for the last two years, and I just have lost motivation on the love for the subjects I had. I have so much self-doubt because I got a 9 in most of my mocks, and I just don't feel like I can do it again. It's horrible because I feel like I can do it but that I'm just not doing enough work.

Eve can I just say I feel so validated by everything you’re saying. I care so much about school and recently I’ve felt I’ve lost my grip on a good balance between school, friends and other parts of life. I feel the exact same about the gym, food and socializing. So I’m right there with you! Best of luck in finals, wish you the absolute best you gem !

Eve, I graduated 2 years ago now from uni and honestly, you are doing SO well! I think we should never forget or diminish our achievements in completing a freaking degree in a global pandemic! Honestly, I so see the friends point, but I really wouldn't worry about it. I left uni with a few people from my course that I socialised with but I also wouldn't really call 'friends', and I've not really kept in contact with any of them, but being brutally honest, it hasn't really mattered. I've made loads of friends since then through work, my house share, moving to Brighton, etc. If people wanna stay in touch, they'll make the effort, etc, so please don't worry. Focus on looking after yourself, studying when you can and just taking one day at a time. When you look back on this you will be so proud of yourself and possibly more proud you didn't study 10 hours a day or something crazy! Don't worry too much after exams - just be proud you completed it! Your videos have been so refreshing to watch in the past few months with work stresses and strains of working in social care and honestly, I feel if we met we'd be such good mates haha. I'm watching this 2 days late so unsure if you'll even see this but anyway!! Sending good luck and love xx

When you said that you used to have so much motivation and that you get more tired now after uni - SAME! I think online uni has contributed to that. I’ve lost the passion I had for my degree and academia now, and maybe it’s me ageing (I’m 23 but I get so tired and I used to be so much more active) so the busy work days I’m not used to. But I totally get what you’re saying!

You’re being sensible, respecting your own boundaries and taking care of your mental and physical health. Just do your best, you’re putting in plenty of hours and effort. I hope you get a first!

I stayed on at Uni until my graduation a month or so later after my finals. I got to spend time in the sunshine ( Welsh Uni, so a rarity!) with some other friends who stayed, I visited a couple of friends who had graduated the year before ( 3 year courses for them, 4 for me), and just had fun in town. It was wonderful!

I'm playing catch up in my final year of college. So I can really relate to this Eve!!! I'm not completely behind, but my projects need a lot of improvement, that's all.

I got my bachelor's started working a professional job took a two year break from school and then completed my masters while working. It was so hard. My professor told me college is just a teeny tiny fraction of your life. It wasn't I completed everything at 28. I was in a serious relationships most of the time. Now at 30 I am a mom and wife. I look back and being single in my apartment was the best time I ever had but it was only a year and I rarely got to party because of so much homework. That's a regret. My twenties r over and all I remember really is school. So my advice is make sure you are making memories it goes by fast.

This video honestly makes me feel so much better about myself just because someone is experiencing the same. Back in school and first year of Uni I was able of studying all day but now that I'm in my master's I have zero motivation left and my grades really show. I found new friends who are able to socialize, work and get good grades at the same time and I really tried to be like that as well but I unfortunately had to come to the realisation that I'm not that kind of person. I need to sacrifice my social life for a couple of weeks in order to get decent grades. And that's okay not everyone is able to balance so many things just had to find out the hard way 😅

What you said in the mid part is so so so relatable (minus the ability to get a first, scrapping a possible 2.1)

I honestly feel so similar coming up to A levels. I’ve pushed myself so hard in mocks and coursework and now I feel like it’s just not worth it anymore to pay that kind of emotional price just for the grades. I agree that it’s so easy to feel like you’re doing something wrong or not working hard enough when you ease off a bit, but I’m trying to just figure out what ENOUGH work looks like instead of just doing ALL THE WORK. Totally understand where you’re coming from, and I wish you the best of luck in your finals!!!! But maybe when you look back at this time (this is what I’m telling myself too) you’ll be glad you didn’t work yourself into the ground over exams - and just be glad to look back on the fun times at uni. Also - I think spending time relaxing on your own when you’re not revising is 100% justified and really necessary. Especially since socialising can be tiring in itself, it’s good to have time to recharge. Much love 💕💕💕and carry on looking after yourself (it is NOT a bad thing 🙂)

I've got a feeling that post-graduate CELTA English teaching qualification is a good way in to temporary contracts abroad... once you've got a degreee you can do that. It's full time for one month. They cost different amounts in different places, too. So you could even study for it in another country for the adventure if you wanted...

When I was at Uni ( History at Exeter decades ago) my entire grade was based on 10 final exams over two weeks - one for each course I'd ever taken since starting Uni. It was completely ridiculous and more a test of how much I could parrot learn than my skill as an analytical historian. So I empathise with what you're going through! Hang on in there, this too shall pass...
