Daffodils in a simple terra cotta pitcher were beautiful, as was the sunset. I like the idea that you will be living on your farm, even before finishing the main house.
Somewhere in a parallel universe there's an illia sat in an armchair reading a newspaper. No wait that's my hubby! 😂 Great work again guys it's so great to see it progressing 💓
I am 75 this year, and last year finally decided to retire. I have renovated houses for many years, some historic buildings over seas, and I so love your energy and adaptability. You both work so well together and have great attention to detail. Love your videos, and thank you for including us on your exciting journey. From New Zealand, with love.
Happy retirement, Paul! Illia dreams of the time when he can devote all his time to his hobbies :-) still 25-30 years to go though. I am very glad to hear that you enjoy our videos
It amazes me how Illia takes all the set backs in stride and doesn’t let them bother him. I wish everyone had that ability. I think our world would be a better place.🤗❤️🐝
Whether you finish in 20 weeks or 20 years, as long as you have a video for me to watch, I will sit right here and enjoy every minute. Thank you for letting me be a spectator in your amazing story. And Anneke. I have to keep a check on Anneke now as well.
Illia, the concrete part that you want to pour on top of the wall is called a ring beam (I think). You guys are doing a great job. I love following your progress.
John Lennon said “ Life is what happens to you, while making other plans.” My mom would say, “If it’s worth doing, then do it right.” Thank you for showing us all how to adjust plans and take pride in our work. You are an example for the rest of us.
DangerMouse here. I don't ask "why" questions because I am enjoying this trip you are taking me on (not that I don't care :) AND I am pretty confident you guys are smart enough to follow a reasonable path and accomplish what you need. Thanks for the opportunity to be a voyeur while you do it. Cheers!
okay I've already watched all the videos now, from the first vlog to now this one, I liked them all and every vlogg got 👍 up from me,, now I can follow along the videos every week..btw,,,I'm the twin brother of the one who draw your picture
Those of us who are too old for the kind of work you are doing, admire and enjoying sharing in your project by viewing long distance, across the Atlantic ocean. Veelen danke !
What amazes me is all the skills Illia has .. I've been here since the start .. he is one clever man... 😂 and from the start Illia was quiet .. who knew how funny he is 🤣🤣
J'aime regarder vos vidéos même si je ne comprends rien de ce que vous dîtes j'essaie de deviner et je vois que vous mettez du coeur à l'ouvrage même pour du provisoire. Bravo à bientôt 😀👏😀👏🐈🏡
Last winter I modified my normal wheelbarrow to have two wheels in front by adding a longer front axle. It's a tiny bit more difficult to turn but the stability over rough ground when carrying a heavy weight is 300% better! No longer does it require great strength to keep the wheelbarrow upright so I only have to lift the handles and push it forward.
There is just alot thats needs to be done at about the same time. Somewhere in the mix living space will be completed so other living space can be worked on. It all just takes time, thank you for taking us along as visual guests.
I like the idea of keeping some of the brick wall that is sticking out from the wall- just stabilize the top of it to keep water out. Like the idea of having a little ruins structure. set some bricks on top at a slight angle to shed water off. were are the two teenagers- and why are the not stacking and hauling bricks. LOL
No complaints from me,as I listen and watch all your videos. Love your work and saving on rent and travel to work 👌 fantastic. Lots of love from Will Burns Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️ SLAVA 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦
I understand your frustration. We recently tore out our fenceline of grapes, but mostly weeds and ivy were taking over. We decided to put up a privacy fence and so far we are excavating big rocks and creating giant post holes. The good news, we are sleeping better because we fall into bed exhausted.
You should add a fireplace to the brick wall side. It would make a great guest suite once the main house is completed. And Illia can work on his masonry skills.
I love the way the rebuilding went. A hodge podge of different materials, just as they built in the olden days. So what its different, good materials make good structures. Its the difference that make our souls unique! Great thanks
I love the limb cruncher. It's so intelligent. Illia is a master brick layer. His ability to make changes when necessary and remain positive says a lot about the man. And, of course, the Mrs holds everything together. The farm fields look lush and green. Don't forget to take a beer break from time to time. Just not all of the time. 😊
Thank you for sharing these videos. It brings back such wonderful feelings for me. My dad worked at NATO for the US Military in the late 1970's, early 1980's. My sister was born in Belgium and my brother and I went to preschool/kindergarten in Alt Hoeselt where we were taught Flemish. I don't have a lot of memories of Belgium but I love seeing the countryside you live in. One day I'd like to go back to visit both Belgium and Holland. I've been thinking about learning Flemish/Dutch just for fun. My mom says we were fluent as children but lost it when we moved back to the states. Keep up the great work and thanks again for sharing your adventure with us. ♥
So glad you got the demolition and roof removal completed, Illia and Marina. After a few problems with the brick walls, you even got those replaced. An amazing job. Thanks for explaining again why you are building the small home. Some may have missed your December videos. It makes good sense that you need more space for your family, and living in the ‘construction zone’ in the main house is not reasonable until you get more of the basic work like utilities, insulation, ceilings, floors done😳. Seems a long way yet, but you have already accomplished so much of the back breaking and dirty work that I know you will work toward your dream at a pace that is well thought out for your situation. Looking forward to every new video👍🏻👏🏻
This is coming from a 80 years young man…as you plan for your senior years, please be aware that you may need doors, hallways, etc. just a bit wider than you need now. To accommodate walkers, wheelchairs, motorized scooters…who knows. Love your videos and look forward to a new one each week.
The frame of concrete is called a bond beam here in USA. Like PaulI retired at 75. (Now 78), home construction and remodeling. Been keeping close eye on your progress. You're doing great. Daffodils are blooming here in Oreg I n, USA. Same parallel on map as Bel.
My husband built our house over 20 years. He was absolutely dedicated to the project. Watching you two is inspirational! The amount of work you’ve done and what will be required to finish the house and outbuilding is daunting but you’ve done so much I have no doubt you will reach your goals! Thank you so much for allowing us to see your work!
As always thank you for sharing your marvelous, sometimes crazy, adventure with us. You have grown so much. It seems that only a short time ago that you had almost not skills at all when it comes to building, but now look at you! WOW! Keep going strong!
I'll cross my fingers that your Plan comes true very soon!! Thanks for taking us with your House-Trip all the month and years. You both will rock that Tour!
Thank you so much, Alexanda! There is no other option left: by the end of May we either live all in the trailer, or finish the milk house and live in both :-)
Illia you are still and amazing brick layer/stone mason and a hell of a demolition man. Can't wait for this milk house to be ready. Then you will be able to finally live at De Hoeve Farm.
Thank you for sharing your plans, I was confused on why you purchased the mobile home, and are working on the milk house, all makes sence now. Best of luck with your dream.
I love watching you both making this renovation your home. I think you, too, are amazing. I feel the pride you must feel every step of the way. I am so looking forward to seeing you both the day it is completed. Thank you for treating us to this it is a brilliant project. 👏
at any given time you will have people watching your videos that havent seen the beginning so that why they keep asking. it doesnt hurt to answer them.
You made your plans quite clear in the winter - and they are sensible and manageable! It is such a huge project to renovate that old house from the foundation to the roof. I am VERY impressed!
We have some of the same rules here in the USA. If you buy property you have to have a livable structure within a year. I feel sorry for Illia running into all those problems. Knowing that he doesn't give up easy I know it will all work out okay Praying for the needed success you need on this project. Stay safe
A big hug to you both, your hard work and spirit is a lesson to us all. I love what you are doing. I did wonder why you'd stopped working on your house, now I understand. Enjoying every minute of your renovation. thank you for sharing. From SW France
I love watching your videos. You two are a great team and flexibility to of utmost importance when doing this kind of thing. Look forward to next week's video!!
I have watched you from the beginning and it amazes me the amount of work you two have done. Getting the milk house ready for occupation will add to your enjoyment of being there 24/7. That will give you more space and a lot less stress….I enjoy your videos very much and always look forward to what you will accomplish next. A job well done I would say! Very happy for you and your endeavours with this project!! 👍🥰
I love you guys! Your energy and determination with this incredible project is clearly seen. Take care of yourselves along the journey. Love the videos.
Okay, a concrete roof should be carefree. Is there a way you are bonding the roof to the wall with rebar? Also the wall buildup next to the existing wall, i would have used some rebar to link the existing wall and the new wall. With the concrete on top it should be fine. Be sure to use enough ("betonstempels") support to hold the wet concrete up. Concrete is about 1500kg per m3, so if there is a slab of 10m2 of 10cm high, its more weight than a car. Its better to be safe than sorry with this, and it can make a big mess if it goes wrong. Looks pretty decent these new walls. Greetings, Jeff
