I think IGN First is the best series that IGN can offer to its subscribers. We need more of these, it's sort of like a "Nintendo Direct" for specific games, and I think I speak for all of us when I say bravo to this concept!
I agree. And having the developers speak to us instead of getting the information from some "journalists" that usually add their own opinions and flare to the content. That's not always what you want, and I like hearing things directly from the developers like this.

can someone explain more about ico and shadow of collosus, bc I got a feeling im missing on something great. I only played a demo of Ico and really liked it, but never got to really played it
These guys made Shadow of the Colossus. That's arguebly one of the best games ever made and I'll never forget it so... this is a day1 must-have. Waiting since 2009 Trailer. :|
Gwyntorias Well, not necessarily my #1 favorite game, but my top 5 best- Uncharted 2, shadow of the Colossus, the Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 1, Half Life 2 Favorite, and best are 2 different things in my opinion but, there certainly would be some games in common
Since you are playing in flashback ( according to IGN ) Trico is already dead when you start the game. What we don't know is how. I think it will be the player that has to take Trico out. He won't die trying to defeat a boss or while trying to help the boy across a bridge. Either the two of them will end up in a situation where they are trapped some place with no food & the boy has to kill Trico & eat him to survive. Or maybe Trico just becomes to powerful & unstable & you are forced to kill him. Whatever happens, you can be sure this game will be very emotional.
Ciaran Mulroy Yes, it is dark. Who knows though, maybe the game will have a happy ending. Fumito Ueda has said that a dark tone in a game is more memorable than a happy tone. So most likely we will have a sad tragic ending. But just like the other two games, if you stick around for all the credits, maybe things will turn out okay at the last minute. LOL
I'm with xbox but i have to say, this game looks ambitious and visually unique. I like the art style and the general scale of the game. I hope PS4 users enjoy this game.
All these butt hurt people in the comments are people who most likely didn't play shadow of the colossus, if you played shadow of the colossus then you will understand the hype for this game
You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you're setting those kinds of expectations.. if you watch the video you might be able to decipher that the dev team had to work out some rough patches and was on and off the project for a long while before getting to the steady development they seem to be on now as they work towards a release by the end of the year.
+MannerlyGem Considering one of the best parts of Their previous games were the sort of chicanery between the art design and the graphics, a la colossus fur and agro AI, from what ueda said he still trying to get that in the game. this developer studio is essentially responsible, at least partially for the whole indie game dev movement about art, and new ideas. That wasnt determined by the length of dev time, but the skill of everyone, from artist to programmers who got the ai in the games to work correctly. what worried me is that it seems only the creative team from teamico is still there, but well see how studio japan can make a game, hoepfully more stable then bloodborne

They shouldn't have announced the game so soon if they didn't want people to have high expectations and then have those expectations lower with a long dev cycle.

dude miyazaki san( creator of the souls series) was actually inspired to make games by ueda's game design. in way we might have not got souls games had it not been for sotc and ico
For those who don't understand the hype around 'The Last Guardian', I completely understand your position, and I was once one of you. But, if you want to understand the hype, then play 'Ico & Shadow of the Colossus' HD Collection, and you'll hopefully understand. However, personally, I don't think this game will be able to top 'Shadow of the Colossus' for me.
This game will be similar to Ico, puzzles and environments to explore. If that's your cup of tea, this will be a masterpiece I imagine. If it isn't your preference to play such games, then maybe you don't have the patience for it, and that's ok, but you most likely won't see the value or fun in it.
I wish I could meet Ueda-san in real life and explain to him just how beautiful and integral to my life his games have become. He says they haven't been in full development since 2006, but I remember while living in Tokyo in 2007 seeing the first teaser images from what would become The Last Guardian (it looked like a giant chain link holding something to the ground), and feeling so excited. If I had known I would still be waiting almost a decade later, I would have cried then. But these experiences are always worth it, and I wish I could thank him in person.
I've been carrying a torch for this since it first went into development and I'm just as excited for it now as I was then. Experiences like this are far and few between and we should feel so fortunate this game is real or even exists.
That creature is for sure some baby demon or something even if it is misunderstood glowing red eyes, hissing at what looks like charms and horns are a clear giveaway.
i wonder what really happened while developing the game? his statements are very vague and i remember that Ueda wanted to leave Sony or even left them. I just hope that "all the struggle they went trough" (like he said) didnt hurt the game too much. I think shadow of the collossus is one of the best games and even best game concepts ever made. So it will be really hard for TLG to live up to this.
I hope Sony will be selling a The Last Guardian bundle + special PS4-design because this good man here will be throwing his money at such a bundle without hesitation.
I was very satisfied with Shadow of the Colossus, so I'm looking forward to this next title. I do hope that they consider making a Shadow of the Colossus sequel in the future though, that'd be amazing :)
Im getting older and I dont buy many games anymore, but this game is definitely one of the titles I will buy this year. I still have very fond memories of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
This game was totally worth the effort, I absolutely love it and wish that I could one day make a game as great and talented as this. It's truly stunning.
Yeah to be honest ... I had completely forgot about this game until i saw it on IGN. When it was first announced years ago i was sooooo pumped but now... I mean im too busy being hyped for No Man's SKy lol
I actually think it'll be the opposite. People will be extra harsh on the game BECAUSE it was it development hell for so long. I mean no matter what, the hype level is through the roof for this game and it'll have to do A LOT in order to reach all the anticipation.
Has it been 10 years since SoTC been released? Time has flown.... I remember completing it on my old brick of a PS2. Back in 2009 I remember watching the e3 trailer with my daughter, then 3, and she called Trico her 'cutie'. I have waited patiently for this title and I know it is in capable hands; it wont disappoint. Just want a date now so I can book the time off work to play it ^_^
I'll be very surprised if this turns out to be anywhere near as good as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. It's been in development hell for a very long time.
Nice videos, but you should change where you cut your subtitles sentences! They are really weird and annoying to read! Like the last two words of a sentence will constantly come after a long delay in the next batch of subtitles, it's just pretty bad. Please improve that.
It would be nice to release The Last Guardian together with the HD versions of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus... as they belong so very much in one and really every PS4 collection.
They might a few years after The Last Guardian comes out. ICO and SotC will probably just be ports of the PS3 HD collection with some graphical improvements.

Absolutely. Both titles are in the top ten best ever made. No other games have elicited such raw emotion in players. (Ya, I cried when my horse died in Shadow ... and I was a 34 year-old man at the time. Been playing video games since Atari. No game - ever - did that to me. It gave me hope for the future of video games. And since then, Dark Souls, and the Souls series in general, has surpassed everything I have ever played).

To those who don't understand why so many people are excited for this game, saying it looks like a PS3 Tech Demo, or that it doesn't seem like there's much to it... I often ask if they have ever played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. When they say no, I say: "Play it, and you'll understand".
But I still don't understand the gameplay element. In Shadow of the Colossus there was fighting the Colossi, but here there seems to be no gameplay other than just walking in a linear path.
Imagine working on an unreleased product for 10 years. I wonder how many people of that team have quit because they felt like they were getting nowhere. I've worked on some software project and after 1 year you start feeling like it better be released soon before you start losing motivation.

Tricos AI, coding, animations etc were too much for the PS3 to handle, the game just couldn't be finished on that console. So they had to wait for the PS4.
Though this was a great and interesting video I've gotta say that the subtitles pacing and timing was horrendous. It shouldn't end halfway through sentences, it's just super jarring to read. I noticed the same thing with FF15 video too.
Cant fuking wait for this game since ICO and Shadow of the colossus and the ending will be something that would make this game amazing I really hope in the fututre Fumito makes either a complete remake with extra colossi (originally around 72 then cut down to 24 and then again to 16) or make another shadow of the colossus with multiplayer added again what they tried to do with NICO or make more of these "extras" (concepts, beta picture or video, etc....)
It's confirmed for 2016, which I don't like. Now that the confirmed date is out to the public, there on a time crunch. Before, they could go at their own pace because nobody new about it, but now it's date is out and people expect it to be released in 2016.
I play video games casually. My worry is that the gameplay hasn't evolved, considering the game has been in development for 10 years and they haven't updated it.

ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and the Last Guardian are puzzle games or action puzzle games involving 2 characters - a boy and a girl in ICO, a boy and a horse in Shadow and now a boy and a cat-bird in Guardian. By simply watching the available video clips from Guardian, Guardian seems to emphasize more on co-operation of the pair. Hopefully, the co-operation will not be simply helping the other climbing up a wall or opening a door from an other side of a room that we have seen in tons of other games like Resident Evil or The Last of Us. To me, Shadow outshines ICO because of the unique puzzle design. Up to now, there are no other games in the market like Shadow. The idea of Shadow is so simple - kill 16 bosses (colossi) and the process of killing the bosses is the process of solving the puzzles. Although colossus physically means giant, it actually means boss because the designer spices up the idea by including some fast moving small size colossi. Although the idea of Shadow is simple, both the gameplay mechanics and puzzle design around the idea are very creative. Especially the giant climbing mechanics, with the help of dynamic camera angles, a simple meter indication and fantastic animation, it successfully gives the feeling of struggle to players during the climbing process. Hopefully, The Last Guardian will outshine Shadow of the Colossus.

I know the gameplay will revolve around cooperation, but I'm hoping the puzzle elements don't involve simple door opening or climbing like you stated. Would you happen to know if the games you mentioned have been remastered for the ps4? I heard great things about those games and I've been wanting to play them.
It's basically impossible for this to live up to the hype and make the wait worthwhile. This drama has really been quite insulting for fans like myself that have been waiting for this since it was first announced. Because it's obvious that for some time there was no work being done on the game - and they refused to tell anyone about it. People who have been following the development of his game know it has been terrible - with massive disagreements and people leaving the project because it simply wasn't moving forward. I can't see how this game could possibly match modern games visually, which is sad when SOTC graphics were incredible for the time. But the studio has not progressed along with the rest of the industry - Stuck developing this same game for such a long time. And still he says he can't give an exact release date? It should be done now! The end of the year "hopefully." What a joke. Even if it's an incredible game - so much time has been wasted for these talented developers.
You do realize that's because it was originally a PS3 game. Most of the games textures were already done, there's not really much else they can improve on that. Same goes for fallout. That game has PS3 graphics but hardly anyone complains about that

It was being developed for PS3 yes, but since development moved over to PS4, the game has improved in ways that were not possible to achieve on PS3. Fidelity included in all aspects. So it isn't PS3 graphics. PS3 can't do this
