I remember this day well! & the build up to it! My father was the late Bill Flett who co founded & got this up & running! I spent many hours at the drome whilst the old man & some of his good friends ( whom I'll never forget) spent hours doing up the old control tower, patching the runway, painting the runway markings, (I'll never forget the smell of that paint) in the 25 ltr tins! Some effort by them all! Spent many a morning clearing the stones off the runway whilst the old man would have a tidy up of the tower & sometimes getting told to do it faster as he'd been watching me from the tower! Many great memories from that time! (even though I was only 5 on the opening day!) There is not many people who can say they were brought up with such a good thing to remember as this! I can always think back to this & it brings happy memories of my childhood as I did get a few flights in light aircraft from boyndie but on the day all I wanted was tobget on that mosquito but I didn't!

I was there; well sort of ... as a plane-mad 11 year old, I cycled up to Boyndie from Portsoy with a friend and, dumping our bikes, made our way across the airfield. We found a 'hiding place' in some long grass next to the runway, roughly mid-way along and waited - eventually to be rewarded by the Mossie landing just yards away from us. Making our 'escape', I was home in time to watch it's departure over Portsoy, glinting silver in the sunshine of late afternoon.

Interesting, Baldie. :) I was up at Boyndie that day, still have my invitation signed by Max Aitken and Neil Williams. I got to climb the ladder and have alook in the cockpit. I've never forgotten those low passes, though I was only 10 at the time. The twin Merlin roar has followed me through the last 40 years. Memories to last a lifetime.

I remember the day well as I was the fortunate chap who always flew with Neil in the Mosquito. I saw a recent picture of the Banff control tower looking very sad and derelict. What a great shame that there wasn't sufficient interest/funds to continue the operation. What the people at Banff who were there when we flew off don't realise we had an engine problem on the way back to Prestwick (Strathallan was too waterlogged to get back in there). The vibration within the a/c was grim and the inst panel was hardly readable. The problem was misfiring on stbd engine due to an ignition harness breakdown and the engine actually stopped as we landed at Prestwick. They were happy days indeed at Strathallan....great shame it all came to an end and even worse poor old Willie Roberts died with skin cancer not so long ago. Lots of happy memories though.RIP Willie and Neil of course.....

Britain's hottest summer for decades. The sun shone for about 8 weeks, I remember.

That's the stuff of dreams! Oh to go back in time!!!! Hard to imagine these things actually happened but nice to try. But you were actually there - must have been incredible.

Great film! This Mosquito is in the USA, it hasn't flown for 30 years, the owner Kermit Weeks may return it to flight one day!
