Short film of the former RAF Banff airfield as it is today (2017). This was the former home to Number 14 (P) AFU from May 1943 till August 1944 when it then became an operational base and home to the famous Banff Strike Wing from September 1944 till May 1945. Many trainee pilots lost their lives during it's 14 months as an Advanced Flying Unit while over 80 Strike Wing crews were killed flying on operations against enemy shipping during the last 9 months of the European War. Lest we forget.

Found this after visiting the airfield today. My father was part of 248 Squadron flying mosquitos from Boyndie in the closing stages of WW2. Good to have some record of these places.

@@opsblock Hello. Tell me, how easy is it to get onto the old airfield with the disused wartime buildings? I am hoping to get there very soon in the next few weeks. And also, I am currently without personal transport, is there a bus service that goes through to Boyndie itself?

Kev, if you point out the time the buildings appear in the video I'll have a better idea of which ones you're referring to and then be able to tell you where they are. Hope this helps.

@@commandingjudgedredd1841The control tower is said to be haunted by the ghost of a navigator. Fg. Off . F.M. Stickel . He was killed with his pilot , Fg .Off . G.A. Long in a mid air collision over Wellhead Farm, Portsoy on 2,10 ,44 . The Operations Block is said to be haunted by Fg. Off . E.R. Davey . He was killed with his navigator, Fg.Off. L.E.E.Robinson in the same collision. Have done a few Parasychology investigations at the airfield myself. Hope this helped you out .
