Soon after the coach arrived at Queensland Museum’s Cobb and Co in Toowoomba, Factory Manager Andrew McDonald was able to establish who had built the replica, albeit on the foundation of an original set of genuine Cobb & Co axles.
But that still left the question of why the coach was built.
Harvey Carter had been given a terrific head-start with a set of original plans for a Cobb & Co coach and, in Jeff Ernst, someone with the skills to turn those plans into reality.
But it would have been too expensive a project to embark upon just on spec. Someone must have commissioned it and been willing to write the cheques.
