Shawn it’s out there because it can’t be on the hard shoulder incase there is a vehicle broken down bud and the escort can’t get back out on time to let you out safely

We use the shoulder over here for wide loads, your Pilot(Escort) lets you know if there is something blocking it on the radio. If we blocked the right hand lane constantly, the police would not be happy. Saying that it all depends on the width and time of day etc. Over 4.5m wide we need 2 Pilots(Escorts)
