The performances from both Bella and Pedro are so good in this episode.

I love the detail of the dog sniffing to detect the infection. It’s a great call back to episode 1 with Mercy knowing the grandma was infected.

A spinoff series starring Graham Greene and Elaine Miles (the Native couple at the beginning) could easily go multiple seasons. They previously worked together on a show called Northern Exposure.

Just for your brain: Jackson does work, in the game 2 we see it (it's not shown in game 1) but it work and is realy organized. About the fungus, it's a fungus not a zombi, it doesn't ''kill'' ppl, it spread like in nature, every where it as the propore environement to do so. Don't think of this show like a zombi show, see it as sociology concept and give you brain a little break :-) see ya next week.

It wasn’t a gallows… remember that Joel and Tommy were both in construction prior to the Outbreak. That was scaffolding… and not exactly sure if they were remodeling or building… but it’s funny that’s where your brain went

In episode 5 they made it a point to mention how the resistance movement had not gotten anywhere under Kathleen’s brother’s leadership. If he were still alive, they would not have taken over. In a weird way, Henry getting her brother captured/killed actually helped the resistance. It gave them new leadership & the proper motivation to take over. Unfortunately, Kathleen’s personal revenge quest got them all killed.

So, first, recall that Ellie said 'it wasn't my first time' to Joel after shooting the kid to save him. As far as what happens after a place is overrun, the life cycle of this fungus is not really represented enough to know. The game had spores, which makes sense, but they got rid of it in the show so the actors wouldn't need to wear masks half the time. Even so, fungus spores can lay dormant for a long time even after the parent colony dies, waiting for the right conditions to start growing. Also, there is the actual life span of the infected. Joel tells Ellie that some have been walking around for 20 years ... i don't think they actually eat people, except the host body, so not really sure how they take in nutrients to sustain themselves for that long without wrecking their ride, so to speak. It's funny, my first thought when going into these kinds of musings is to wonder how much the writers actually worried about this, and how much they said 'we have to do X here, to get to Y, even though we can't explain it' ... or more simply 'its just a damn story' ... I have terrible scars from when I was burned by Twin Peaks.

Remember the human bodies are just transport mechanisms for the fungus. So I guess how long they live depends on how long the fungus can live. I don't know what the fungus eats for food....

actually hilarious that you said "is she gone" because she definitely left after overhearing that convo between Tommy and Joel. You had to search for her and kill some raiders but I can see why they changed it up, especially with us already being in Jackson. It just flows very nicely and the easter eggs for us gamers are *chef's kiss* perfection.

It's funny to see how trained you are to expect things. You mention they are making too much noise, outside, in Wyoming, after 90% of its population has been wiped out. They walked for 3 months, pretty much without seeing anyone. The couple in the cabin has been there for years without seeing anyone. Even with a fire going constantly and food hanging outside. It took them a week on horseback to get to the college and they didn't see anybody. Jackson isn't that small. She said there were 300 people living there. (Which surprised me that there was an empty house.) Why no children? You just give up on the world? Just let the cordyceps win by attrition? Plan to be celibate for the of their lives? It's not like there's any birth control around. Not to mention Ellie, the potential savior of all humanity, was born 6 years into all this. Probably when things were still worse than they are now. You probably just don't leave valuable things like working radios capable of communicating long distances behind on the off chance a stranger firefly finds it. You radio the other Fireflies beforehand that you are leaving and where you are going and take the radio with you. It's probably the only one you have anyway. Why are the 4 people at the university without guns, probably just looking for anything to scrounge to help them or their people, automatically "thugs?" They probably would have loved to get their hands on a working radio. Here is how my brain works, something i thoght of early and forgot about until this episode when Ellie talks about the Boston QZ. Fish. Why arent the people living in the Boston QZ just gorging on fish? It should be a job or probably part of FEDRA. The ocean is right there. With 90% of human population gone, oceans have had to have repopulated exponentially. All coastal QZs should be doing this. And no restrictions now. Back out there with nets. Any dolphins get caught up, so much the better. Whale oil. Bring it back. Tuna, bluefish, swordfish, shark, all the shellfish. All coastal QZs should be feasting. And we know Baltimore is gone, so even less competition. Not to mention all the rivers. Why are they only ever hunting and nobody ever mentions fishing. Even during the winter you can still ice fish.

Notice how Joel said “Congrats” to Tommy and *not* Maria? The town of Jackson was cut from the first game, you only went to the dam (where in the game you meet Tommy, Maria and the Jacksonites) in TLOU part 1. Jackson proper was introduced in the second game. This episode is also the first appearance of Shimmer! ❤

I'm genuinely stunned that you're a romance novelist and not like a crime writer or something. Always puzzling things out, plus there doesn't seem to be a trace of sentimentality in your reactions. Are they "Leaving Las Vegas" style romances you write?

As I've watched multiple reactors view this series, I have to ask. Are you able to enjoy the show more during editing? I've noticed this show can stress people out with tense moments 🤔
