@@bggsz4Eh, Joel knows that if Ellie had been asked, she'd have told them to give it a shot. That's why he lies to her at the end of the first game. Joel did it out of love for Ellie, but it's not what she would have wanted.

Game happened cause Joel made a selfish decision however did so put of love and care for Ellie cause he looked at her as if it was his daughter Sarah that he'd lost at the initial outbreak. Wouldn't consider it murder as much as I would choosing to be selfish regardless of the fact that Ellie would have wanted to at the very least give it a shot to make her gift mean something to the world for the better. Basically Joel chose his wants over the wants Ellie wanted to become a martyr in a sense but did so thinking he'd be doing the right thing by Ellie considering that it's a swing or miss since there's only one known person who is immune to the infection and the way vaccines work if you don't have a bundle of samples to try and create a vaccine from there's very limited chances of creating a working vaccine and even if one is made it requires a very long and intense observation process process to verify that the effects of the vaccine actually are a permanent cure and not something that will ultimately fail in the long run.
