Episodes 1-4: "I wish there were more infected in the show..." Episode 5: "I no longer wish that."

Henry and Sam’s actors killed it this episode. Honestly they made you so invested in their characters in such a short time to only have the rug ripped out from under you. Kudos to them.

The whole show has been phenomenal, but I think this is the best episode so far. It felt like quintessential TLOU. Bloater ,clickers ,and human drama ,action ,violence, and most importantly my heart was broken.

The old man was NOT a terrible shot. He was winging his shots to keep them under cover until Kathleen could arrive. Kathleen risks everything she accomplished to get to Henry. Remember, she said to keep him there. She very much intended to kill Henry herself. The old man would've known why she wanted to find Sam & Henry and wouldn't have taken that kill himself.

I took Ellie's "I'm sorry" to mean she was sorry she couldn't save him with her blood like she thought. Ellie has survivors guilt ever since Reilly died, and we know she wants her life to mean something in the end. I took that as another piece of the puzzle that led her to want to be able to be a cure for the world. Notice how determined to go west in the morning.

Kathleen coming out of nowhere ,pointing a pistol ,and saying "stop" ,and then dying was 80s villain level cheesiness😂.

the "I'm sorry" note was because Ellie couldn't cure sam. she genuinely wanted her blood to be the cure and this was her first try to save a infected person. remember this was great motivation for her. for her life to mean something. she said sorry to sam because she was wrong and her blood was not the cure.

That girl clicker's movement was absolutely terrifying.

I really like your videos. I haven't played the game so it's cool to see the comparisons. You had some fun edits on this one, thanks for that, especially because this episode was a tough one. I'm glad someone in the comments warned me a bit or I would have been devastated. Such a great show. It's interesting to see the changes they've made.

If you’re a fan of the game, you know how badly Ellie wanted to save the world and die but felt that Joel robbed her of that. To see her try to save Sam gives more depth to the fact that this little girl wants to save everyone! And feels completely robbed by Joel when he chooses her over humanity

Series overall is excellent, love this show, btw I never played the game, but I have been watching the "movie" on YT, not going beyond the episodes in the show, to avoid spoilers, and I'm amazed at how true to the game, the series is.

that song during the credits is wonderful, def added to the playlist. this episode was great, made better by it airing early, thx superbowl!

IMO 5 is the best episode so far, especially if you're a hardcore fan of the game. I know a lot of people like the plot deviations for the trade-off of even further emotional story telling but some of us are also here for that action and we got served a great portion this episode. Thank You Neil Druckmann for not forgetting about us.

in the game i wasnt a fan of henry but like sam but in the show they made henry much more likeable

missed out on the fact that henry says he's never killed anyone besides indirectly. but the very first person he kills is his little brother.

This is why you don't follow orders blindly. If they have taken care of the infected underground like Perry suggested instead of driven by personal revenge of a single woman, the whole team would have been still alive

It was very satisfying seeing Kathleen get clapped by a kid clicker. That ugliness she had made her more than malicious, her vengeance and selfishness went completely against the ideals her brother apparently stood for and for all the effort to free her people, she ultimately led to their demise and her own much deserved end.

The episode was sad

Bro I didn't like they mad sam death bro cause I'm the game him bonding with Ellie talking like probably any kids would do an apocalypse, bro we finally had more than 100 of clickers and one bloater lol I was laughing when they guy who voice Tommy died cause Im my head I was thinking Joel dies in the game and tommy voice character dies in the show

The only thing that's ever pulled me away from the show is the whole I noticed you're deaf on the right side' thing. I've been deaf on my right side my whole life and people who've known me for years would have never known it, even when I've told them they still try to like whisper etc into it. You would never notice it from watching someone sleep on their "bad ear" or how they react. My wife has never realised I sleep on my right so I can hear incase. Why didn't Joel just say am deaf on my right side? Apart from that wow love the show.

No idea what would happen here in the UK with no guns, we would all die, don't think throwing toasters or cats at the infected would help much

I was impressed with this episode because I expected this to be a "woke" episode showing the revolutionaries as racists and Sam and Henry as innocent victims etc. Instead the revolutionaries are clearly more left wing types than anything else and S and H were just normal people trying to survive. I like that. It is unusual for an American show to depict left wing types as the baddies but i think a tyrannical Hilary type of woman leader who talks about freedom and rights but actually just murders people is a convincing villain. I also understood the reference to abortion when she says that children die all the time etc. typical left wing attitude to kids. I guess this is what it looks like when the #resistance actually take power and seek revenge against the police and capitalists (Fedra) and cis male and cis female people who cooperated with and respected the old police/authority system. This show is interesting and smarter than the average American trash.

Most collaborators are for food or medicine, and Kathleen says "medicine, alcohol, FREAKING APPLES" She trivializes, purposely, their actions so what she does is not so bad. So despicable! Michael had it, to keep them alive surviving if not only Fedra but the infected. With Kathleen sure they had their revolution celebration, which with Kathleen lasted only 11 days.

Biggest takeaway from this episode was FEDRA kept the city "safe" for 20yrs and these Rebels couldn't even manage 11days.

This relationship between Sam and Ellie is much prettier and heartbreaking than the “love” one they got in the game. In this world, it’s important to remember that they are kids. They barely had a childhood, or what childhood would be consider in this world

I feel like Sam ,and Henry's journey is especially impact full for those who have a brother- brother relationship in their family. As a younger brother this had me tearing up just as it did in the game.

It was terrifying how the hoard of infected came out. I was on the edge of my seat. I loved all the Easter eggs in this episode. Beautifully made

I thought the age difference between Henry and Sam, whether intentional or not, really help further mirror the relationship that they had was closer to that of a father (Joel) and son (daughter/Ellie).

I freaked when the bloater went for the face rip like the game

That clicker girl that followed Ellie into the car. I'm a pretty jaded zombie show watcher but that thing creeped me the fuck out. The way it moved gave me a visceral feeling of terror I haven't felt since I was kid. I don't know who decided that it should move like that but it was so unnaturally weird yet effective. Totally un-human. It freaked me out.

What’s scary about Kathleen is that she’s so scary because she sounds so nice. I would always see her as Charles’s girl from two and a half man

It makes sense that Kathleen would be a rebel leader after her brother's death. He was a pacifist but everyone else was bloodthirsty especially after Michael was killed. She was a leader they felt could take them somewhere. Remember, humans love to give in to anger and follow those that affirm their feelings. It would make sense they followed her when they are all angry.

The double meaning of what Sam said, genuinely hit me hard. In the literal sense of turning infected, but also of losing your humanity and becoming someone who will kill people just to keep alive. A metaphorical monster. Jesus christ...the writers nailed it.

the old guy didn’t have bad aim, he had instructions not to kill them and just to engage long enough for Kathleen and troops to show up

It's interesting how the Infected contrast between the game and the show, in the game they feel like a moderately dangerous hassle that you can overcome with bare fists or a couple bullets, in the show Henry acknowledges how hard it is to take on just two clickers and survive.

I heard somewhere that it’s recently been discover that cordyceps never actually reach the brains of the ants it infects like it was originally thought. Which means if you take that to apply to the show. Sam’s question of if people are still inside is even more heartbreaking.

I think the reason why they show the scene of ellie giving blood to Henry is to show that it's not the blood that immunizes Ellie. In the game Ellie bit the cannibal guy, and even kissed Dina showing that even tho she's infected, she can't infect others, same as to heal them.

5:10 I like how the reflection gives Henry an orange band across his eyes so he matches Sam's face makeup and drawings of them both as super heroes. I do wish they kept the bit about the toy robot.

I hope everyone is happy now that they got to see the Bloater. It’s all anyone in my internet circles has been talking about

The snipper shot was bad purposely! He was there to keep them in place. Long enough for the Group to catch up

They should be fighting the infected but instead they fight with themselves, yes folks humanity is doomed.

I think Kathleens feelings towards children are made pretty clear, she has a general lack of regard for the life of a child. So it was a sort of karma when she is killed by an infected child.

I hate I have to wait until Sunday to watch episode 5 while HBO max people got it early

Def happy to see deaf representation in this ep, maybe a bit of a trope that they aged him down in order to make his deafness more digestible for hearing viewers but I think it worked. I really was rooting for Henry and Sam to make it a few episodes. Rip lol

In the end, Michael was right. Kathleen's merciless and vengeful mindset is what led to her undoing. Had she forgiven Henry they wouldn't have chased him out of town and all died.

Do we ever know if amputation works with the infection, I know In the dlc I believe there was that one letter saying a Fedra soldier tried to amputate another. Obviously Sam had to die here, but like could he have been saved if his leg was amputated at some point prior.

also when he asked her to pull out her gun and she went for her pocket he gave her a quick glance like wtf

The scene were Henry killed himself was so….heartbreaking, I though Henry would survive after Sam’s death, even though being heartbroken. The scene where the huge number of infected and the bloater coming out was….Terrifying, probably because of the infected’s speed when they got out.

I didn't get why everybody was following her but it's because of how they looked up to her brother that's why she was able to take over..

People complain a lot about side characters being introduced, making them seem important or relevant to the story, then killing them off at the end of the episode (happened in episode 3 and in this episode w Kathleen). I don't think that's a problem. It's supposed to be that way. The show makes you begin to know people and their stories, then kill them off so that you understand the frequent loss that happens in the apocalypse. Stories would be cut short if people were dying all the time.

Ellie probably wrote "I'm sorry" for the reason that she couldn't save Sam with her blood rather than not staying awake with him.

Craig Mazin said making Sam deaf increases how much he is dependent on Henry.

This episode encompassed everything about TLOU imo. So far it is the best episode, zero filler in it.

we finally got it boys, bloater death scene. Boy it delivered. I dont think anyone deserves to go out that way, even if they were on the opposing side.

Cordyseps irl is a muscular infection where the ant knows what’s going on but can’t do anything abt it. Which makes Sam’s question just so much more get wrenching bc he’s likely fully cognizant of what’s happening around him but can’t do anything to stop it

Well I think that the rebel's cause was just but their behavior should be better than FEDRA and unfortunately for the the people of the city they had very very wrong priorities. A revolution who cannot defend itself it is not worthing...

when i saw the bloater killing Perry i immediatly noticed the resemblance to the game, glad to know i wasnt the only one

I began to feel sorry for Kathleen but I ended up really not likening her character so much wasted resources to hunt down 2-4 people and the fact she had no remorse for children just made me not like her and root for her demise and when she got taken out it was so well deserved I find it really selfish she got to grow up and live a somewhat happy life into adult hood but now that the world has gone to shit children don’t deserve to grow up I just find it cruel

I think Ish survived with a few more people, there’s a note in one of the houses you explore after leaving the sewers that explains their fate

Episode 5 was easily the best episode from the series so far. Everything about it from start to finish felt real and true to the game. The episode gave us everything we wanted and felt from the game itself. Really gave me some big nostalgic feels, and that underground eruption of infected was so fcking badass.. Not to the mention that giant bloater that came charging in. So far TLOU has not disappointed and is an amazing adaptation to the game.
