When I first played the PS4 version long before part 2 was even announced, I shot him in the foot with the lightest pull of my bow, hoping to spare a doctor who I initially believed was just desperate to try and find a cure. But he still fell over dead. Abby's dad chose to die rather than patch up a moderate puncture in his foot.

I blame Marlene 100% for all of this because if she had just let Joel say Goodbye to Ellie, and or let Jerry talk to Joel and Ellie and explain the situation, and maybe something like Jerry agrees to try alternate non-killing methods on Elle to make a cure ,then everyone need not die.

When I got to this part in Part 1 I unloaded my entire supply of ammo into him. If I’m going to be killed for something I may as well be deserving of it.

Interesting, in the original the doctor, Kari, is voiced by Laura Bailey, but since Laura Bailey plays Abby in Part II they understandably changed her voice actress in Part I

Marlene summed it up perfectly when she said “they had a choice” and that’s what Jerry didn’t give Ellie

Why does no one ever mention that in the tapes you find in that section, there were other 12 people who where inmune and they operated them and still died without a cure.

Before part 2,I did the melee kill because I wanted to see if I could just push him out of the way,I could not,and I killed the female surgeon because she called me an animal and that hurt my feelings 😭

You forgot to include the fact that NOT killing him is not even an option. The game forces you to. Markiplier tried it in his playthrough.

Still dont like abby at all. Never have, never will. I understand her story, her motives, however that changes absolutely nothing about me disliking her.

Would’ve been nice if they added Jerry properly to the remake since his death is the catalyst that sets off part 2. Adding him to a cutscene or something would be great but really something as simple as taking of the surgical mask so you see his actual face would work too.

Alternate Title: All The Ways You Can Kill Gigantor’s Dad Who Saves Zebras Kinda funny they raceswapped the surgeon from the original too. But I mean who cares, it’s not like there’s a sequel anyway. Just a bad dream. In all seriousness the flashback in Part 2 with Marline is interesting to me because it feels like they retconned her position on the surgery a bit. Like when she talks to Joel in Part 1, she’s more on the lines of “I love her but this is for the greater good and I will kill you if you intervene” whereas in Part 2 it’s more suggested that she’s like “you’re a monster for doing this surgery, but I guess there’s no choice, also imma tell Joel cuz he too will be quite displeased with this decision and definitely won’t do anything…” Like I don’t think it matches necessarily, she goes from fully committed to it knowing the potential to save lives with a hard but needed sacrifice to basically against it and more forced to comply begrudgingly out of the desperate to take a slim but potentially only chance for a cure. Which does sound similar, but I guess that what I’m trying to say is in the first game she’s much more cold about it and there’s that nuance of yeah she loves Ellie but she is also very determined in her self interest to survive and achieve this unimaginable goal of saving humanity. To someone who is more objectively loving and caring and ironically very judgmental towards Jerry being like “good luck with your sUrGeRy” and I’m like, errr you gave him the go ahead?!? Like suggesting he’s evil for doing something you had every excuse defending and even encouraging it as being something that has to be done regardless. It’s a weird 180, and I feel like they literally only did it to make Marline less “evil” when she was perfectly ambiguous and grey in her motives and morals, which made her more interesting. As well as make another excuse as to why my man Jerry is the bestest dad ever who saves zebras and wasn’t in any wrong because he’s just so nice and loving right? So to make Abby’s revenge more justifiable.

I know we are supposed to empathize with Jerry but he is an absolute prick. Convincing Marlene that the ends justify the means, keeping the choice from Ellie wanting to hide it from Joel. What a dick, he deserved what he got.

To anyone who says “the sequel doesn’t exist” just know tlou part 2 is better than the original. Trust me, I didn’t like it the first time i played it, but after playing 3 times more in the last 24 months I can honestly say I way prefer the second game, I like it more every time I play it.

Abby's dad is a hypocrite......the protagonists were in a coma for only a few hours at the time. The doctor only did a blood test and insisted on performing a craniotomy. In the recorded report, his tone was very excited. There is only one immune person, but he insists on making the riskiest decision. This kind of person is actually very paranoid and terrible, but he will convince himself with noble excuses.

Imagine how different things would've turned out if Joel had simply knocked Jerry out. I doubt Abby would've sought revenge for that.

It was a gamble at best. Never assured that ellies death would create a vaccine, joel was right. Not to mention Abby encouraged her dad to kill ellie and not once even ponders the thought that she also bears responsibility for what happened

What is making me so angry about this is Abby's father was willing to accept the death of a CHILD to save the human race. DAMNIT the guy's a doctor not a butcher! Whatever happened to 'First do no harm'? EVERY life is worth preserving and should NEVER be sacrificed. Meaning Abby's friends Joel Tommy and Jesse all died for NO reason at all. So in my opinion Abby's father's death was justified if he was willing to take a life to save lives. Doctors should never take lives. It makes them no better than the killers that walk the streets. And in real life doctors have killed people before. Harold Shipman is one example.

Something that annoys me is how abby's hair is the same when she's younger, it's just shorter. I always think she must age like a tree or something and a link gets added to her plait every year, you can count them to see how old she is.

I just thought of something...so in part two of the last of us we see owen and manny who were there first to find abby's dad body so the flashlights coming into the room is either them or other fireflies? I dont know just a thought...

I feel like the explanation Abby's dad gave to Marlene was a lot better than the explanation Marlene gave to Joel, and that maybe if she either had more people skills or let the doctor explain the situation that a lot of things could have been avoided.

one of the biggest miss oppotunities is making Abby feels Jerry's death was her fault too due to encouraging him but Part 2, they tried so hard to make Abby looks nice and forced us to like her without making her a complex charactet (i dont hate her but shes really bland)

Villain vs villain. Joel was not a good guy, in fact he did worse things than Abby.

All of this shit could have been avoided if they just told Ellie and got her to consent.
