Just wait for it to release on RU-vid and check the dislikes. If the video has a lot of dislikes, you know he liked it. But seriously, he actually had a great talk after the game...which is rare for this game and it was great listen.
Basically said he enjoyed the game, but there were some things about it he didn't like. Liked the combat more in part 2, liked the story and character development more in part 1. Even someone like Anthony who pretty much adores this franchise and has spent thousands of hours speed running it, was taken aback by playing this game and had to spend 2 hours collecting his thoughts about what he just experienced once the credits started rolling. Said it was the story they had to do, but didn't know how he truly felt about it and needed more time to reflect on it. From what I remember, that's pretty much the gist of what he was saying once he finished the playthrough on stream. Pretty much my feelings too. I don't agree with the story choices Naughty Dog made for this game, especially it's ending and not for reasons you may think. But that's ok and it's their game. I'm OK with her showing mercy towards Abby. What I'm not OK with is just how fucking bitter the ending is. It's not bittersweet. It's just bitter and hopeless feeling. Ellie loses everything and she's forced to live out her worst fear of being alone. And she leaves the guitar behind which was her last tangible connection to Joel. I would've much rather had the last scene be a little more optimistic to off-set just how sad and depressing the game is and how emotionally draining of a journey it was. Maybe they could've showed her walking back towards the gates of Jackson with the sun setting or something, so at least we KNOW she's going home and can start trying to pick up the pieces of her life and doesn't have to be alone. For all we know that's where she's going but we never see that and I don't know... The foundation of the Last of Us is Ellie and Joel. Joel dies, and Ellie comes out the biggest loser in this sequel. It just feels a little too bleak. Don't think the game is a master piece. I don't even think it's 9/10 or whatever the critics are panning it. The combat is great. The attention to detail is great. The set pieces and visuals are fantastic. But the story and pacing leaves a lot to be desired and I think that fact is always going to make this game infamous and divisive among the gaming community at large. It's a good game... it just doesn't meet the same bar set by the original. All I can really say. I just think that what naughty dog was trying to do with the Abby story didn't hit the mark with most people. It didn't land for me how I'm sure they wanted it to land when they came up with the story. I never truly cared about her like I did Ellie or Joel. Not even close. Never really felt any empathy towards her and it's mainly because your very first impression of her is her brutally torturing and murdering a beloved main character. It's extremely difficult to come back from that.
RetroCNY I completely agree with you that the pacing is the main weakness of the game. The tone is also excessively dark, but I very much believe this is meant to be the “dark middle chapter” of a trilogy and when/if Druckman gets to make his third game that ends Ellie’s arc (but probably not the universe’s story), and this game becomes part of a larger story it will be more acceptable. I do give it a 9/10 because I think that the fact that the attempt to show players another perspective received so much pushback is a strong indication that it was a worthy endeavor, and I think even the game’s “failure” to create empathy likely was valuable.
Regardless of this game's flaws, there's so much good to this game. The gameplay, graphics, world building, new prone and dodge mechanic, etc. It makes the game feel so real. Whether you hate this game or not, this game has alot of fun and interesting moments. Edit: Yay, comments are back! Love you Anthony (I'm wearing socks so it's all good)!
@A D I'm referring to the suspense the gameplay brought. It is a bit clunky at times, but there is a difference between the two. Plus, I'm not saying it's amazing even though the story is all over the place. I'm saying the game is good because of those things...not perfect, not amazing...just...pretty good.
@@peko3050 I my opinion, the pacing in the game, whether it be story or gameplay, is very flawed. I found Joel's death very disappointing. I wasn't even pissed that Joel had died, I was just upset by how he died and how he acted before. The game has ALOT of glitches. I was watching my Dad and he despawned everything in the map except windows twice. I hard crashed when I picked up a piece of paper and fell out of the world a different time. I didn't mind the ending, but many others hate that Ellie let Abby go and Ellie essentially went back with absolutely nothing, of less than nothing.
I think people are confusing bad writing with something else... this game is better in writing than the first one was, AND it is way more ambitious. How it's all put together on this "messy" manner and how you are on pair with Ellie's journey (even while playing as Abby) is something I've never seen before. The characters are brilliantly written (maybe not Dina so much) and how the game shifts you and your understanding of Ellie's motives is so good. Of course it is not what we wanted, we all love Ellie and Joel and seeing their story end like this hurts really bad. But after the ending of the first game, if there were to be a sequel, it HAD to be like this. This game is what it needed to be. It's Ellie's journey to forgiving Joel, more than a "revenge is bad" story like I see most people describing it.
BoxBeater agree. It’s mostly because people really don’t know what bad writing is. They label something as bad writing just because something happened in the story that they ultimately wished wouldn’t have happened. That annoys me alot
@@BoxBeater Yes the pacing is at fault in my opinion it's the one thing I complain about, but I'm forgetting that it's a game so I think that sacrificing that for the gameplay itself shouldn't be that bad 😂
@@Jungbeck Yup people can't accept that they just might not like the direction of the story, they have to bring everything down with them , their opinion has to be right lol
i started my second playthrough yesterday. i noticed that in the scene that pans over all of the WLF team as the're sleeping, it shows them in the order that they die in game.
@@luisjardim9675 I actually really fucked with her story arc. Joel was such a great character but I think he needed to go in order to progress the story IMO. Almost done playing my second run and I have to say I appreciated the second half of the game way more this time around
@@mattygregg6747 While I agree a simple revenge plot could work greatly as a story, and so many other games have done it, I found this game to be a bit flat in its story telling. While sure Joel may have "had to die", most people agree on that, but the way it happens is so toneless. It's a classic example of a Macguffin, 'something happening for the sake of plot,' which is bad story-telling. You forget characters names seconds after they die, take for example Jessie, he gets shot and killed in the theatre. Then his name isn't mentioned once after that, it's like he was erased from the story completely. The process of playing 3 days as Ellie and the tension building up and up and up until the climax where the tension drops back down again to day 1 where now the player gets to play as abby is in my opinion just not how you tell a thrilling story. It seems as if you're about to get to the climax and witness something big, or play a role in that event, but only to have another 10 hours of gameplay to find out what happens makes the story seem droning and the player disappointed. Now the other aspects of the game were incredible, the graphics, lighting etc. but for me in these games, especially coming after a great first game, it's all about the story, and that's where i really think the heart of the games comes from, something the second game in my opinion wasn't able to come clearly as close to as the first.
@@BatsBeyondStarJesse is actually mentioned after that. Dina mentions him when Ellie tries to leave to Santa Barbara. There is also a note from his parents on the table in their home.
I’m glad that exploit isn’t a thing. Mirror’s Edge speedruns are obnoxious (ironic for a game that’s literally about going fast) because everyone just spams the sideways dash to boost their movement speed.
1:11:01 I was laughing and in tears at this part when you found out there was no edge barrier. I thought it was awesome of them to include falling to your death as a way to die in the game. I love this game.
my expectations were huge and I was still blown away.. Niel and crew have a gift for creating challenging and innovative work that redefines what games can (and should) be.. The Risk of telling This Story in the Way They Did should be applauded at least.. dislike the game if you want, sure, but you can't deny the balance of tech and artistry at play here..
@@peko3050 people have proboem with (spoiler alert by the way) . . . How they killed Joel, Now while i get that he shoud have been more carefull and not say his name, abby did kinda help him and Tommy just like they helped her. They were welcomed nicely and they even offered them a drink or something. There was no reason to not say his name but whatever even if he said his name for no reason I dont mind it because if for example she just knew how he looked and shot him because of that the outcome would be the same. Just because he made some out of character thing doesnt mean the whole game is now ruined. I feel people would find a way to hate Joel's death however it was made because people love character so much but that is not games fault really, it made sense for him to die. People also have a big problem with ending wich when you say it in one sentance it sounds ultra stupid but when you play trough the game in the end (at least this is for me) you dont want to kill abby. You realise she also has a life and you took a lot from her and she did what she wanted and when you came at the end for her, ellie didnt want to kill her because she wanted to but she came to kill her to have peace. And when she got it, when she defeated abby she got it, she felt that she avenged Joel, she had peace. And abby at that point is nothing but a helpless human being. She allowed her to leave and live with the boy. For me ending was good and I was satisfied, but i think it would be nice if you had option on what to do. Kill her or not. That way i feel that every player would be satisfied.
A lot of stuff in her room changed in the 4 years. The mini arcade cabinet got moved to a lower shelf, the lava lamp was working in the past but no longer has any gel in it, etc. Not just new stuff added but all the old stuff (except Sam's toy which she kept prominent) got moved around.
My favorite part about my firs play through is the first time in the theatre. If you go to where the bar is on the second floor and in the back left corner of the by the railing, there are multiple camera angles that unload a lot of graphics and it was absolutely hilarious when I found it.😂
Just finished my first playthrough of this game today and I'm super excited to watch Ant's playthrough and opinion on the game. And hopefully, eventually, speed runs of this game.
Thank you for uploading this. I'm tired of people talking about Pewdiepie's playthrough of the game. I need to see a real fan without making off-hand comments and exaggerated expressions to entertain people play this masterpiece.
@@soccerracso Pewdiepie doesn't speak for gamers or the majority of people who play this game. Pewdiepie gave up his gaming roots a long time ago, he has no place trying to tear this game down. Ant explains his problems with the game and you'll see it eventually if you didn't watch it live. But he also understands the story because he wasn't in a blind rage at Joel dying the entire game, missing everything the game is trying to say. There's a lot to be misunderstood about this game's story because no game has done it really. The game's not a masterpiece, and you can choose to dislike the story. But it's wrong to call it objectively bad, and it's wrong to review bomb the game with 0's on the first day of release because people's favorite character died. Lack of fan service is one of the reasons I love this game.
@@soccerracso pewdiepie was clouded. he was already expecting the writing to be bad because that was what people told him. You could see this when he was making fun of the good parts of writing in the game.
@@Thxrz story wasnt garbage. The story was really good when they weren't focusing on Abby. If this game had only shown the flashback of abby's dad instead of the 10 hours this game would not be receiving nearly as much hate as it is. Also the ending was brilliant despite what people say. I honestly think it was the best part of the game. I was able to forgive the Abby section after seeing how disturbing those 10 hours made the final section.
Well Ant isn't gonna say anything bad about the game he's gonna be playing for the next 5 years. So there is gonna be a little bit held back from Ant. He's been very diplomatic about it all so far.
Man, you can call me whatever you want, and say that TLOU 2 is a piece of junk but this game made me cry so bad. I've finished it two days ago and I still think about everything that happened, and cry. Two more trophies and I get the plat but I am not ready for a second playthrough yet. People say that the story is crap and that this game is not even worth playing but they say this because they wanted this game to tell a story that is not true. Revenge, angriness, don't take you anywhere. I understand their point of view and respect that. We need different opinions and points os view to get better, to build a better world. Anyway, thanks for this video, Anthony. You deserve all the best!
To hell with anyone that makes fun of you for crying or voicing your opinion. Most people are blinded for their love for Joel that they're stuck in the anger stage of the grieving process and form biased opinions that lash out at the game or creators. It is okay to not like the game, but a lot of the comments stem from hatred. Pay no mind. Thanks for sharing.
Lorenzo J.B. Marcon that’s so true. People hate the game because they were wanting it to be like a movie where all the characters that you love either survive, or have a really dramatic death. But that’s not what’d happen really. Anyone you love or care about can be gone in a matter of seconds.
they can hate it all they want, that's fine, people have different taste. But to call the story trash or 0/10 because they don't like what happened while at the same time wishing this was a lame revenge story where you kill everybody and go home, that's BS, not an opinion. Story wise, what ND did is more interesting. Now, does this game is worth playing that's an other question. I get that people might not want to play ( for fun, since it's a game ) such a grim game with this sad ending that leaves you empty. One might argue that revenge/hate as a theme was the problem, not how it's handled.
Finally, a game did the opposite of what fans expected. I don't understand why predictability is what people crave. Ellie and Joel walking into the sunset is clearly not what was supposed to happen. Get a grip, this is supposed to be a hostile, horrible world that they live in. Its just being realistic.
That's not what anyone wanted though. They wanted the story to revolve more so around Joel and Ellie. Noone is mad that Joel died. Theyre mad at HOW he died. Like a weak little bitch instead of something true to his character like protecting Ellie.
@@shinebox4597 And I didn't necessarily say it was good. I thought it was uncomfortable as hell to play, but I credit the creators for making me feel that way. Ive played the Last of Us probably 20+ times. I loved it. This is just a different type of game. What im really confused with, is that fans knew it was going to be darker, and they are still upset about it. Ellie clearly lost someone she cared about in the trailer. It is clearly a revenge story. Who on earth would she care more about than anyone? Joel. I suppose that the way he died also pissed a lot of people off, but Im surprised and impressed that they had the balls to do it in that way. I loved the shock. Call me a sadist, but I want to be shocked and terrified while playing a post apocalyptic game. It tore at the heartstrings. Game of Thrones did the same thing with like 50% of its main characters.
Spicoli Yeah I understand that some people like that sort of thing, and that's cool. Got to give ND credit for trying to do things differently even if it didn't resonate with everyone
agreed. you can really feel the influence of uncharted action set pieces in this one.. one thing I wasn't expecting was all the boss fights! not only that, but the technical structure of the game, how we bounce between Abby and Ellie and all different times and places.. it's innovative and ambitious, yet again ND did the impossible and tops their catalogue with a new definitive title..
not sure if/when you'll see this, I noticed with certain scenes only because it's the ps4/pro, these systems do not have a SSD(unless otherwise replaced with an SSD) and there's so much more to load that it may actually be faster for certain scenes to just play out instead of trying to skip a cinematic.
i'm so glad i can watch you play this game. i first experienced the last of us with cryaotic's let's play, and had been looking forward to him playing the second one for a long time. with recent events i don't feel comfortable supporting him anymore, so it's wonderful that i have someone else i can experience the game with. your passion for the series is wonderful and i know this will be a great ride!
@@JWNam98 nope i mean it. Loved it. Does not understand the hate where you grade a game 0/10 after playing ut for 2 hrs and your favourite characters dies.
@@genericname6349 How is she a badass, and why is Joel a dick? Everything most of the people do in the world of tlou, is to survive (excluding crazy cults for example). Abby and Joel both do shitty things, but it's all for survival, at least usually lol
I bought the collectors edition for this game, and I have never been more dissapointed. I literally have this game on my mind for the last days. I certainly think dont think this game is bad like other people say, but it isnt anywhere close to the game it was hyped up to be. I guess I only have myself to blame, I was expecting this game to be the creme de la creme of story telling, I thought it would be a game that would blow every other story game out of the water. I think the main thing I wanted for this game was to be something special, and it just wasnt. The metacritic score is 95 en the user score is 4.4, both are delusional. This game cant objectively be both of those numbers, I am mixed on the game. Would probbably give it a 6 or so. Huh, this is what everybody felt when the ac and mass effect series fell, it is a dark place to be.
@@pacificeggroll69420 Yeah like I said, I have beenn hyping this game up for 7 years, I would watch the trailers daily. I would think that this game would be the top of the mountain, and when it didnt, I just felt dissapointed, my own fault though i think.
1:57:00 I actually thought when it said "My Good Boy" meant his or her son. Cared more about a Dog than a Son. Because there was a Kid there. Did it on my NG+ Run because i missed it the first time.
I also found that I wasn’t getting plus signed all that often but when it did happed I didn’t feel all that inconvenienced by it. This might change for speed runs though.
Molotovs - actually, they do gather around it 'cause I did the same thing you did, I just may have waited a couple more seconds for them to gather before throwing the molly. :)
I totally loved the game and the storyline, and now that I'm done with it, I'm very excited to watch your reactions and hear your opinion about the story...
Thing about this game is everything loads during the cinematics so if you hit "skip cutscene" like we did in the first game you'll get a loading screen. So don't think the speedruns are going to be making it as fast as we expect
I think you guys should make this into TLOU2 Glitchless SpeedRun Rules: “Skip all Abby’s part, game ends after Ellie’s Seattle Day 3” Just trolling, tbh, I’m really curious how will you handle these Story only gameplay in SpeedRun such as museum and aquarium. They do takes a lot of time to walkthrough.
