It's always thought-provoking when you see a "last photo" of someone who appears fairly healthy. You never know when the end for someone (including oneself) could be right around the corner. I grew up listening to this man's unique voice on the radio.

I grew up on rock and roll, but Charlie always had room in my heart. His songs were heartfelt and his voice is beautiful. He was a superb entertainer.

Charlie was an alcoholic, died of a pulmonary embolism as a result of too much drinking..nothing to do with smoking.

@@gregmaggio5217 Greg, as far as I know Charlie Rich smoked "Salem" menthol cigarettes. I've never heard that he smoked Pall Mall.

In looking back, being an Arkansas native, growing up in Charlie's neck of the woods, I was 33 when he passed, I'm now 2 years older than when Charlie passed. I knew his daughter and husband, very sweet people .

My father was the evening manager at the hotel where he died, and when his wife called the front desk for help because he wasn't responding, my dad was the one who confirmed he was deceased.
