From The Last Starfighter, actors Lance Guest and Catherine Mary Stewart gave a panel at Retro Con 2024 to talk about the film, their experiences, and to answer fan questions.
Lance Guest was Alex Rogan in The Last Starfighter and is also known for Jaws: The Revenge, Halloween II, Altered Perceptions, The Patient, Night of the Wolf, Jericho, JAG, Party of Five, Knots Landing, and many more.
Catherine Mary Stewart played Maggie Gordon in The Last Starfighter and is also known for Night of the Comet, Weekend at Bernie’s, Cheerleader, The Outer Limits, Hearts are Wild, Hollywood Wives, Days of Our Lives, and many more.

After watching this now I want to go into my theater and watch Night of the Comet and The Last Starfighter, again. lol. The Last Starfighter is by far my favorite movie. This was a great watch!

Great movie! The script showed that young people can achieve their goals and dreams even at times they think they can't. The producers were very brave to utilize C.G.I. which was basically still at the research & development stage no matter what movie it was used in. It's a great movie to watch; unique and different -- do not do a re-do~!!!

Last Star Fighter was a Movie I rewatched as much as I watched Flash Gordon. Love this Movie.

I saw this in the movies. It REALLY makes me feel old when I see the actors again (I was 8 or 9 when it came out, and knowing they were at least 20, means they have to be in their 60s. They both look good for their age, but I still feel OLD)

@0:22 I remember Catherine Mary Stewart from Nighthawks (1981), Night of the Comet (1984), and Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) as well. She’s aged like fine wine, and Lance Guest has aged well too. She’s 65 and he’s 64.

They were supposed to be in talks for a sequel called "Son of the Last Starfighter", but nothing ever came of it. I really wish they would try again.

They should do a special edition of this movie, the performances are great but the early CGI hasn’t aged well so could be remedied now. Big fan of this film btw.

I think this movie hit people later because of the inner battle to decide to choose a distant future you are uncertain of or stay with the love you are certain of but not knowing if a future with her will fulfill your passion/mission.

What a great movie I wanna say the main reason this got lost in the 80’s shuffle was back to the future had just recently come out and it was a huge shadow it cast so this never got the love I believe it deserved

Please, someone make a last starfighter sequel and bring these two amazing actors back to reprise the rules. I’ve been saying for years, bring them back as the leaders o Rylos. Over the years, they have rebuilt the starfighter league. in that timing of also had a child, male or female it doesn’t matter. The kid is now 17. Xur who has been long thought dead returns and makes his move against the frontier. in his surprise attack, in the attack, Maggie dies (I know it sucks but one of the parents has to die in it to Disney movie and Disney hates mothers. That’s why they always die in Disney films.) and the starfighter league is decimated. Alex and his child are now the only people who can save the frontier, Alex now basically becomes the grig of the film as he has to teach his son the ropes. Meanwhile Xur is betrayed by his own two children who kill him and take control. Alex and his child fight this new armada, etc etc etc At the end of the movie, Alex and his child play flowers on Maggie’s grave.

They did leave it open. At the end of the movie, they stated, "Xur escaped, the frontier is down... yadda yadda yadda." they could literally have their child on Rylos track Xur down, whatever, to either kill him or bring him to justice on Rylos.

After a period of peace, Xur’s son has decided to finish what his father started. Admiral Rogan, having trained several new generations of Starfighters must come back one last time to rid the galaxy of the scourge of the new armada… Wait, wait, that’s Wing Commander.
