They are working on a sequel called "The Last Starfighters". The creator of the last starfighter owns the rights and for years has been offered to do a reboot, even Speilberg, and he's refused. Now they are finally closing in on a sequel with original characters and actors. Just finalizing funding which is the hardest part. A quote that sticks with me as an adult actually comes from Otis. "Things change. Always do. You'll get your chance! Important thing is, when it comes, you've got to grab with both hands, and hold on tight!" - Remember that folks because it's never been more correct.
I completely understand your point! I feel the exact same way! Sad how life kicks you over and over, but I never loose sight of this movie because it inspires and reminds me of how far I have come and also how far I need to go!
“Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-dan Armada.” Best recruitment line I’ve heard, ever. Sign me up!! (Proceeds to play videogames for twenty plus years.)
Just turned 40 last month. Hearing this brings me back To a simpler time A time where the flavor of icecream was the biggest decision you would have to make that day A time where you could see where your friends would be at, by the discarded bike’s in front of someone’s house.
One of my favorites as a kid and honestly good enough I think a sequel could have been doable at one point. Would have been interesting to see Louis get his shot one day for instance.
z_irl what song was the one that destroyed it is because a lot of people kept saying they stole from Star Wars they stole from Star Wars! But to be honest this thing had a whole new fresh idea and a whole fresh Story 2 they need a reboot this movie Man I back it up if I was a billionaire I f****** put the money down for it
Probably one of the best Starship designs for space combat. Fly and shoot in different directions. Ball laser turrets with complete fields of fire in every direction. Missiles that maneuver towards their targets despite the flight path of the ship. Complete with a fire control system that paints targets despite the gunner being without line of sight of the target. Armor to withstand direct hits. The Gunstars are a great ship design.
I really like that scene. Alex wanted to leave that trailer park behind and go to a big college and got denied. Then when he tells Centauri that he's a kid from a trailer park, he proved to that college that they were right to deny him. At least in the end Alex rose above his doubts.
The scene at the end where Alex is about to leave and Maggie decides to go with him...gets me every time. Its one of the most romantic moments in film.
And it's also about being afraid to leave our little neighborhood, or clique, or town etc. Beautifully done. "You gotta grab opportunity with Both Hands"
Seeing this movie so many years ago . . .Im 65 now . . And after reading these comments I think evrryone who loves and appreciates this story . . . Well I think there is a starfighter in each of us . And there isn't a thing wrong with that .
I like how the song goes super strong like you are blasting off, balances out a little like you are looking at the Earth and wondering if you should leave, and then you slam the throttle forward knowing it will always be home but you got some space shit to do
Love this movie! Geez, this was basically every geeky little boys dream wrapped up in a movie. To be be whisked away from your everyday existence and taken off on some grand adventure where you are the hero. That scene at night with the video game flickering and talking..goosebumps. The 80's were a great time to be a little boy into science fiction, fantasy, and adventure. E.T. (1982), The NeverEnding Story (1984), Last Starfighter (1984), Cloak & Dagger (1984), Goonies (1985), D.A.R.R.Y.L. (1985), Explorers (1985), Flight of the Navigator (1986).
Dear industry decision makers of the past. Thank you for never remaking this movie or doing a sequel. It is perfect as is. This is one of the greatest movie-going experiences ever put to film.
I was walking through Six Flags as I heard this song playing and immediately knew what it was. I'm in my 40's and right away it triggered those childhood memories of loving that movie. I thought that car was so awesome!! And that is why I'm here today listening to this song again.
@@MrSprattibaggs Honestly I can't remember which one now since it was 2yrs ago. It was either Fiesta Texas or Arlington. I was at the Arlington one 2yrs ago, so that was probably it. And no, the was no ride for it. I guess they were just playing cinematic music.
I watched this movie over and again as a kid. Hearing this brings a tear to my eye. I have heard the are planning to make a reboot/sequal. If they do, please, please have this music to open again. If all this comes to be, I will be sitting in a movie theatre sobbing and goin batshit crazy at the same time.
I always thought it said, "You have been recruited by the Star League, to defend the Frontier against Xur & the whole damn armada." Which technically would make sense... we're talking about the Last StarFighter. ;)
This is the one starfighter they actually GOT IT RIGHT! They took the AH-64 gunship's base design, threw a gyrochair in the gunners cockpit, seeded key points with turrets, add missiles to the hardpoints, and the (GASP!) Death Blossom! Toss in a gung-ho iguana and you got a killer combo. Of course, she was over-gunned for her power source, getting chronically short on the shooting juice at key moments. That never gets old... "Just bypass the life support and suck it up while I blast the last of these dweebs!"
Flight of the Navigator--and Explorers--are some of my favorite movies from the same time period...and some of my favorite music from the genre. I miss the 80s so very, very much...
This movie was dubbed the best of the star wars rip offs which I always felt was unfair because it had its own story. However it followed the heroes Journey pretty well. Instead of the a farmer on tatooine it was kid from trailer park both are unsure about their futures. Instead of an old mentor that turns out to be a jedi its an old game designer who turns out to be an alien that changes he's life and gives him that call to action. I would watch this again and share with kids from this generation as well as i believe it holds up fairly well.
Let's not forget that Star Wars had it's own accusations leveled against it involving "ripoffs" So really I don't get too hung up on that stuff, it's mostly silly anyway. If this was a terrible film I might see some reason for it, but it's not. It is at least (imo) as good as Star Wars IV, It just shines a bit less because it had a small budget, not unlike SW IV as well.
First movie with CGI that is unpresidented for it's time! Absolute outstanding movie! I hope a series of movies follow this one soon, deserves the attention.
@@manuelorozco7760 I'd love to see what they have done with the new upgrade.. Sadly I refuse to buy anything worth a damn since Child Support loves taking or making a guy loose everything for listening to the lies of a pretty lady seeking an easy pay check... 😕😠😒. And they have the gul to arrest people for pimping, prostitution and or human trafficking... If they tried to set me up for failure and tried arresting me for that crap... I'd tell I learned from the best. Them... Damn hypocrites.
Saw this in the theater when I was 10. Tears and snot flowing out of my nose as a 50 year old man. Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada. Get ready. Prepare for blast-off.
It was a genius story device, but obviously the charm inside the film is Alex Rogan is a nobody in nowhere California, who loses a college scholarship and has no future, except for the whole saving-the-galaxy thing. Everyone responds that kind of fable.@@williamstarkey9032
Interestingly enough, when I was at Disney World in Florida last year, this song was playing at 8 AM in Epcot! It brought a tear to my eye, but no one else recognized it.
Was at Disney World yesterday, EPCOT Soarin' around the world, and heard the Starfighter theme all the way up the concourse. Exhilarating way to prepare for great ride. Disney could have picked other tunes from its arsenal that it owns so this choice was even more cool. Took me way back!
I Love this music. I can relate to Alex when i graduated high school, then US Navy bootcamp. I had this playing in my head when i was marching in pass and review and graduating boot camp. Then i finally saw the night sky at sea on a clear night, then the music and the stars put it all together.
I remember seeing this movie at the cinema . . I was all of 26 years of age. I'm 65 now and planning on living out the rest of my life at sea . Thank you for mentioning the stars at sea at night. Kind of boosted my desire to get there ASAP . . .
12 years later and i'm still watching this video... over and over again. This was the movie that got me fascinated by space and science fiction. This song gives me goosebumps every time. I rate it up there with Binary Stars by John Williams. Same effect.
I seen this movie more than any other movie in my entire life. I know for a fact I seen it 87 times back when I was a kid. I counted each time. 😂 Facts!!!
Still my favorite score ever. Binary Sunset from Star Wars runs a close second but this one always gets me in the gut and puts a lump in my throat. So much emotion and tales of adventure, heroism, honor, passing of the guard... all that I feel is wrapped up in this piece. Beautiful.
There are a select few songs in the entire world that make you literally feel like you can accomplish anything. ANYTHING. This song tops that chart!!!!
Timothy Mckee I'm am like almost literally the only teenager at my school who still watches VCRs they r still quite cool I'm 16 I grew up on VCR tapes and my family still own box TVs I still have a copy if this movie in good nick
With all respect to the master himself, John Williams, this theme took the best elements of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones themes, combined them, and created something even more magical.
I Loved this Movie so much... it was a great time then... and Forever and ever i would defend the frontier against the Kodan and all other enemies there instead seeing all this Hate and war on this planet... It has made sense once... and i need a Sequel or a Series based on this spirit... but maybe into an other univerese... i will come an see it! Thank you so much Alex Rogan!
A great movie, made well ahead of when it should have been. But it is movies like this, that propelled development of what we have now. I would appreciate a properly made remake of this movie, that is truthful and honest to the original. Or better yet, a SEQUEL!
This is one of the best Space movie themes composed. It's up there with the likes of Star Wars themes. The theme itself excites me and somehow makes me want to go on
This movie made me and I still want to and have wanted to for many years to start up a fully functional arcade that is a maze of games and such. But life hasn't made that possible for me at all but has made me feel like this plastic bag being blown in the wind with no sense of control and when I try to gain control, some suits and ties who are jerks have to come in and ruin it for me and cause me to lose all hope of control. So, much like Alex Rogen of the Trailer Park in this movie, I feel absolutely stuck, not feeling like there's anywhere for me to go but to rot.
2004 also had Spider-Man 2, Hellboy, AVP, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. going backwards, 1974 had... had... um.... Zardoz? It's memorable, at least.
