I was born in 66 and loved watching the Monkees when I was a kid. When I was a toddler my mom heard me singing Hey Hey were the Monkees while riding in the car. It was the first song I ever sang. I had all of the albums and I played them over and over for years. I saw them in Atlantic City in 2010, not too long before Davey Jones passed. I’m so glad I had that opportunity.
The Monkees have been a part of my life since 1966. I am now 68. These wonderful singers, actors, and talented performers still mean the world to me. I love them. I love their music. When I watch the show today, it still brings a smile to my face. They, for me, represent a happy period in my life. My teens! I was lucky enough to see them in concert many times, as well as meet all but Nez over the last 25-30 yrs. Davy was my absolute favorite. So I am happy for that. I hope I have an opportunity to see Micky in concert or meet him again in the near future. It breaks my heart that Davy, Peter and now Mike are gone. Miss them always. Thanks for your video.👍💕
I am also a Big Monkee fan and am also 68 years old. I met Mickey at Busch Gardens in Tampa and got a nice photo with him. I subscribed to your channel.
Way outta sight man a total gas i dig what you sayin. Probably some out there now saying WTF. I was also 9 with a bunch of teens around getting into Mary Jane and digging the vibes.
My favorite Monkees song is one of those rarities where the title is not in the lyrics. That song is the sometimes outro, For Pete's Sake. In this generation, in this loving time In this generation, we will make the world shine I'm a boomer and saw the shows in the 60s. This song, though I like it a lot is an obituary to the ideals of boomers. It is an anthem to how the generation that failed me most is my own. If we had been more like our parents, called by some the Greatest Generation, perhaps the state of the world would be better.
As a kid, I lived for the Monkees show on TV. They were the best, clean, funny and in a sense, innocent. The best tends to die off too young. God bless the Monkees.
I love all of them, they were a part of my childhood. Each one had something different to add. I think Pleasant Valley Sunday is one of my favorites. I truly appreciate their talent and God Bless them!!
My first ever concert in 1986 , at the old Oakdale theater in Wallingford,CT. The stage was circular and rotated round and round. I was 13 and my older sister and I loved watching the reruns on Mtv. Even my younger brother and sister were into them. We got so excited for the 20th anniversary tour, my God almost 40 yrs ago. My sister and I walked around for hrs at a solid out show( our mom bless her waited in the car for us and then even came back later to get us after the show. Unbelievably a man came to us with 4 tickets and he just gave them to us. Wow A 15 and 13 yr old. We sold the other two tickets quickly to a couple for 30$ lol we weren't stupid. It was the most surreal experience to me. My first exposure to famous people on TV. And my first concert. The atmosphere was incredible. We got to see Herman Hermits,( Henry the 8th I am) and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap . But it seemed an internal wait til the Monkees came on stage to Hey hey we're the Monkees ( I think anyway). The whole show was amazing, the only thing that could have made it better is if Mike were there. Sadly even though I saw them 3 times it was never with all 4 at the same time. I was delirious, my sister chiding me for screaming we love you Davy. ( Hey I was only 13 at the time). A few yrs later Rock and metal came back into my life and I went in other directions. But me and my friend John played every Monkee tape over and over. We especially loved No Time, Randy Scouse git, and the porpoise song. The Monkees we're a huge impact in many lives and they proved they belong in the Rock Hall of Fame. They have countless hits and tons of great songs. Oh and I would put Shades of Gray up to songs like Yesterday, Hey Jude, everyday. That song is a ridiculously underrated, and under recognized song. And just shows the incredible talent of those 4 men
They were a part of my childhood....watched them every Saturday morning in my pjs....life was good. Rest in peace Davy, Mike, and Peter. Rock on Mickey!
I've been a Monkees fan from the first moment I saw the TV show back in the 60's. My first single I ever bought was Daydream believer and to this day it is still my favourite song. ironically if they hadn't been shown playing their instruments they could have been another boy band. The Inkspots were recognised as the first back in the 50's. Because of the Beatles they were created and they were their downfall too. RIP Davy, Pete and Michael. And good health to Micky, your music and shows will live on.
Almost identical to my experience.I wasn't born early enough but was then too young to fully appreciate them as a young kid. I first saw the Monkees on TV in the 70's as a kid but didn't really get into their music until I was much older. My nephew was staying with me when I worked in Hong Kong (I lived in a village so there were no neighbours to disturb). I recall his emerging from the bathroom saying, "Daydream Believer blasting out at 7. am on a Monday. What a way to start the week."

June 16, 2016: my friend at the Hard Rock got me a "meet and greet" ticket for the show. I met Mickey and Peter before the show for the brief hand shake and photo op. I mentioned my love for the band and jokingly invited them to my home studio to record a tune. As the security hustled us off to make room for the next guests Peter said, "Wow! I wish we had more time..." The sincerity of his voice made those words stick with me. Those words haunt me now. Mickey was equally gracious and I was able to spend some time with him after the show. I cherish that hour and will never forget how full of life was, and how he loved making everyone laugh at his stories. Making people happy is the core of who he is. I knew studio players made the records. That's what the industry has done since the '50's. The Wrecking Crew played on their records as well as Jan and Dean, Sonny & Cher, the Mamas and the Papas, the 5th Dimension, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, the Byrds , and the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds. The Monkees were unjustifiably maligned for doing what everyone else did at the time. Hang in there, Mickey. We all love you.
@@jeffcarlson3269 It seems Mickey Mouse changed his last name. I hope he isn't sticking Minnie Mouse with the legal papers. At least he didn't choose to change it to Monkee Mouse.
I had a crush on Peter when the show aired. so adorable. loved the show. very unique. so uplifting & silly. we need silly today badly!!!!! sorry they're gone. grateful to have had them in my TV life. Mickey thank you for being you!!!!!!!
Anita Garatie, Peter Tork was great! I believe he played eight instruments (all well), and was a better actor than he gave himself credit for. I recall an old interview when he said that he felt like he was, "made of wood" in the early Monkee episodes. This was due to his early performances being very stiff. Later on, of course he said that ALL four had a level of proficiency in BOTH music and acting.
While most had a crush on Davy, I had a crush on Micky. I thought it was the cutest and I just loved his personality. His smile made me happy. Good to see he is still handsome as ever. RIP Davy, Peter & Michael. Yall had brighten my days in the golden days.💛
My favorite tune was You Just May Be The One. Even though it wasn't one their more popular songs, I feel it was such a well written song. I love songs that change tempo but can bring it back to the core of a song. Mike Nesmith was a far better musician than anyone gave him credit for! Rest well boys. You bright a brighter day to a lot of people.
Monkees Headquarters.. in my opinion is one of their best albums.. many songs... many great songs... what a bargain.. back in those days.. to get so many new songs all on one album... for such a great price...
My favorite song is door into summer. I love these guy's, such a great childhood watching the Monkees on TV as a kid and adult. Took my son too their 50th anniversary concert and we got second row floor seats, my son was so impressed, he is a fan for life as I am .
I still find myself listening to Door into Summer... it has a special nostalgia hypnosis it places over my when I hear it.. my mind wanders back to the days when I first heard it... back to my childhood.. summers spent at grandma's house..small town life.. riding bikes till after dark... all the scenes of my youth..
I watched these when I was a kid. Aways enjoyed Micky. Now 68 years old I am see the others have passed away. Mickey if you see this Thank you for all the great songs and TV shows 🤗🤗🤗
The Monkees came to tv the year I graduated high school. In the '70s, my daughter watched them after school, and I would watch, too, while making dinner, etc. Always loved them, Peter, 💜 in particular. Still listen to their cds every day. God bless them for all the joy they brought to millions around the world. Simpler times. RIP, you were great! 🎸🎶🎹💞💞💞
Favourite song is probably one of Nesmiths 'the girl I knew somewhere' or 'you just maybe the one'..or 'circle sky'.. Nesmith had a voice I would have loved to have had..Dolenz had the great pop voice undoubtedly..but Nez just had a smooth deep easy Texan charm to his vocal..effortless.
I've loved them since the 1970s. I listen to their music and watch their show regularly. Micky, God bless you for keeping the music alive. I will always be a trueblue Monkees fan!
I cannot pick a favorite song. WAY too many that I love. Pleasant Valley Sunday, Papa Genes blues, Randy Scouse Git, Valleri, Shades of Gray, Popoise Song, The girl that I knew somewhere.....lol Ok I'm done, I could go on all day. Been a fan for a long time. I'm glad Micky is taking better care of himself. It has to be incredibly hard being the last one.
I really like a lot of their music as well. It is hard to find just one that is the best. A lot of that depends on how I am feeling at the time. One of the things about the Monkees was that is wasn't just one lead singer. All of them had a opportunity to lead in multiple songs.
@@bryanwhitton1784 I even left off some of the ones from the Pool It album, which I really liked the whole thing. I agree, I loved how they all had a chance to be the frontman.
WOW..... PETER WAS AN ACCOMPLISHED MUSICIAN LONG BEFORE HE WAS IN THE MONKEES. He can be seen in concert footage playing classical piano. He was such a good banjo player that George Harrison had him play on the soundtrack to Wonderwall. He wrote the closing theme to the show. He was a very accomplished guitarist. He taught Micky, who was actually a guitarist, a bit of drums. MICHAEL was an accomplished songwriter and was about to be signed to a contract as Michael Blessing when he got the role on the show. The only albums they didn't play on were the first and second. That wasn't anything to do with their skills but because filming the show didn't allow them a lot of time to do more than add vocals to tracks put together by studio musicians. By the 3rd album - Headquarters - it was them playing on every song. Any studio musicians were in addition to the four and were under their direction. They composed songs on that and the following albums asking with songs written by friends of the band. The album Justus was only the 4 with no studio musicians at all.
The Monkees are my favorite. It is so sad that three of the four have passed away. I hope eventually they get the accolades they deserve like induction to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame which they've been wrongly kept out of.
@@randylibby2523 Uh...plenty of living performers have made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Monkees have been purposely kept out by specific persons who decide which artists get inducted.
I saw a concert with Micky and Peter back in 2016. It was my first concert ever (I was 15 at the time). That night left me astonished. They were full of joy and energy, making it bittersweet to leave at the end. While I felt lucky to have that moment, I was upset I never got to see Mike. I adored him the most and really looked up to him as a person. While I collected Monkees records, I also had Mike's. The day he passed I cried so hard. I felt grief for weeks. Him and his songs (Tapioca Tundra was my favorite of his) got me through rough patches in my life. Peter's passing was a hard one to shake too. At the time I saw him I remember he made a death joke... Nobody liked hearing it of course, but with the kind of spiritual person he was, I guess he accepted that fact..
We're happy to know that you were able to watch The Monkees live! Thank you for sharing your life story. Wha other types of video would you like to see?
Micky Dolenz was the most important member of the Monkees. He had the best voice and had the most genial personality. Micky is seemingly in good health which is fantastic and could absolutely carry the band’s music credibly. Micky is a natural.
I don't know if we can single out any as being the most important.. all the Monkees.. each one was an integral part.. of something bigger.... and the Monkees would Not have been who they were if Any single one of the members would have been someone..different..
Impossible to name just one song. I so loved watching the show! I saw them in concert when I was 14 the whole stadium was girls screaming for their fav. It was awesome. I saw Davy and Mickey at different times separately performing in my hometown that was so nice! Davey Peter, Michael rest in peace. Micky be well and enjoy what ever time you have. We all grow old and eventually we all pass on. It is the memory of all the joys that we had and remember that keep us young in heart.
I have always been a Monkees fan, right from the beginning. My all time favorite song 🎵-.A want to be free.still listen to their music all the time......
It must be very hard to see your fellow band members die, even worse close friends. As long as he remembers the great times shared, and hold fast that they will be together again , he will be OK. Imagine how Paul and Ringo must feel? Or any legendary group that has had the loss of it's members. They will abide with the faith that they will be together again one day.
'A little bit me, a little bit you.' Not one of their best known songs but the words have a message for everyone in a relationship. It also reminds me of my childhood in the 60s. I had an amazing time in school with my lovely little school friends.
It is one of their best known songs actually. It reached #2 and has been on most compilations. Nice comment; it is one of my favorite Monkees songs, too.
One of my favorite groups of all time!! Daydream Believer and a homecoming queen....yup singing it right now! 😊❤️ My best friend, Larry Saltis, was in the New Monkee's band. He beat out thousands in the contest on MTV. (Back when they still played music.) Great job 👍
To quote from an article "Never was a group so derided,so maligned and so misunderstood as the Monkees-all because of four actors who initially didn't play on their records-critics could ignore the fact the Beach boys didn't play on their rec and the Mamas and Papas didn't play on their hits, what they couldn't ignore was some businessmen put together their idea of a pop group and made money out of it"
I grew up with the Monkeys and watched their their family/kids show On the telly in the 60's . Always thought them quite goofy and for an initially manufactured band they very soon showed everyone just how accomplished they were as musicians and song writers. I always feel old when part of my childhood ' dies' like this . I am positive they will all be reunited again in a better place . Thank you The Monkeys for all the joy , music and entertainment you gave everyone !
Davy and Peter were my favorites. Peter was so adorable! Mid to late 80s, my foster parents had us playing softball. When we'd win, dad would throw us in the back of his truck. And would take us to Pizza Hut in our town. We'd all be screaming HEY HEY WE'RE THE MONKEYS. Guess that's one of my favs. Great memories Great song❤❣ God bless them all❣❣

He implored them to note that in all his years as a serious junky, he never got a cold or as much as a sniffle, and now that his system is running without heroin, he's now getting colds like everyone else. I thought it was a very good thing to put on record and challenge the researchers. He was telling them to find out why fully addicted IV heroin use is in effect the preventative 'cure' for the common cold. ;-) Who knew?
Always liked them as a child in 1960s. They played the shows in England for years and years. Good records, good shows and good times. Always fun and cheerful.
I met Mickey Dolenz in 1987 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, MI. I stood in this line with my friend for what seemed like a century all for his signature on my album! Glad I was there though, take care Mickey!
As a pre adolescent, The Monkees were my favorite group and TV show. One night, shortly before the show was to come on, I cracked my head on a window and needed stitches. I refused to go to the doctors office until after the show was over. I just held my hand over the hole on my head to stop the bleeding.
Yeah I remember seeing an episode of the Brady bunch where the focus of the show was Davy Jones, This show was a rerun of the Brady bunch show , It was long before I knew anything about the MONKEYS TV SHOW, very interesting report though
