It's what the hobby's all about - getting to the point of perfecting one layout while dreaming up the next one in your head - look forward to see how it all gets built, keep up the great work 😀👍
While you are in between layouts, you could keep the section with the engine shed and a bit of track on shelf, to still be able to film locomotives that need repairs being pushed into the shed.
Will be really sad to see this lovely layout go, but onwards and upwards. You've brought many people a lot of joy through tough times Bill, and have totally reinvigorated my interest in the hobby. I've already started buying some locos and stock including several old Wrenn Castles, but have now decided to try TT 120. Have put a loop together, bought a new Gaugemaster controller and have a temporary set up running. That's the first time for me in some 20 years, and almost 35 years since I've had a proper layout on a board. Now excitedly planning my first real TT layout as I plan to spend far more time on the hobby when I retire, which may be as early as next year. All the best Bill. Look forward to your future videos.
End of an era. This layout has served you well. I think all who have watched your video's have enjoyed each in turn. I'm looking forward to the demolition and the creation of the new layout. Lots to learn. Thanks for sharing. 🥰👍
Sad to see the old layout go, the scenery on those close up shots was amazing , you should be very proud of your build. Anyway onwards and upwards, really look forward to seeing the new layout built and evolve.
It begins... I have really enjoyed watching trains running on this layout, especially with the smaller locos, because the convincing countryside helped generate a really nostalgic branch line feeling. I particularly enjoyed enjoyed the "buffer cam" footage, looking forward to more one day. And I hope you're going to let us see a few trains running during the building process so that we can see the different stages - I'm sure I won't be alone in that wish. The section in front of the window - a thought came as you were speaking - how about slicing it in two, so that the inner tracks could be removed separately. Might that give enough access for routine window cleaning etc? I can't see it beeing more difficult than extra stiffening battens... Best wishes for the project!
Good luck with it all Bill, most of all enjoy the process, you've got a wealth of experience now, so bring that into play and enjoy. Don't forget to get the sheepdogs out to round up all those wayward sheep that you found over time on the hillside. Looking forward to seeing the updates and any repair videos you can manage. Eddy xx
Thank you for one last ride around your excellent layout. It's been really good to see it develop over the years and always enjoyable to see running. Now we have it all to look forward to again on a much grander scale. 😊✔
Just like the closing of a minor main line branch, the crowds out to see the last train leave! I look forward to the new larger layout! Best wishes. Bill!
I can only eco what has been said below. I have watched many of your repair videos. I always find them most interesting, and your injurnewity is something to be admired it's sad to see this layout being broken up, I am sure you will find as always some injenus way to display your forthcoming repairs. Best of luck with the new layout.
A bit sad but, at the same time, a new beginning! You're embarking on a new journey of discovery. I'm sure all the new skills and techniques you need will be learned and put to good use. Thanks for all your videos so far, Bill. Looking forward to new horizons! I agree with Attus, Maude should pull the inaugural train out of the new layout. Take care Bill, Jim L.
01:52 Goodbye to the lumpy carpark. I expect you''ll find a rustled sheep or two as well. We only ever see your loco expertise so I'm looking forward to the fresh start. Good luck.
8:05 "..fish plates that I can push back".. Unless I misunderstand your intention, where you have any lift-out section there usually are no fish plates (rail joiners) employed between opposing rail heads (between the fixed in place track and the lifted out track) but instead are fed matching power separately, with only gaps at these places..For, if you DO employ slide-able joiners they're possibly going to get loose and wobbly, causing power intermittency.. Plus, (and with apologies for repeating something I suggested earlier): For both drama of grade(s) and for storage/staging, I still think you should consider a 'down and under' scheme on new RR somewhere and where it might form a reverse loop as well. Anyway, looking forward Bill to seeing your developing new railway, and always look forward to your fascinating repair videos.. Los Angeles
It’s like something from the 1960 when BR decided to rip up our railways ☹️ Then 60 years later putting them back like the Boarders line in Scotland 🏴 lol 😂 I’m sure the new layout will be better Bill 👍🏻 Looking forward to seeing you build the new layout 😀
Exciting, but certainly bittersweet. I’ve enjoyed your layout and have always thought it was so nicely detailed. Sad to say goodbye, but like a phoenix, it will rise again, better and bigger. Looking forward to your progress as you go.
Shame to see the layout come to end, but the new one looks a like it’ll be a lot better! Enjoyed watching Maude take the final train. Onwards and upwards!
Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes I look forward to your new layout. I've always admired your meticulous approach to this great hobby of ours. Your commentaries and explanations on what you are doing are great tutorials in themselves. Thank you Bill for sharing.
For your new window board, especially, do have a look at the ModelTech ProTrack Rail Aligners. I have no personal experience of them, but they look like a great idea. Also, not expensive and much simpler than using copper-clad sleepers. [Like number 600 on this video, and like no 500 on the deforestation video! Easily pleased by little things...]
Will be somewhat sad to see this layout go to it´s last rest. But the start of something new is exiting. Wish you the best with the teardown and the new build.
I really hope you can film the process of building the new layout, I’m reminded watching with fascination as a child in the seventies the BBC Model World Series with the late great Bob Symes episodes on building the Horsted Keynes layout, I wonder whatever happened to that? Thankfully a few of those episodes survive here on RU-vid to help bring back those childhood memories!
The and of one era, and the beginning of a new! Will miss this layout, but look forward to what you do with the new. Best of luck, and again thank you for all the great videos!!!
Certainly some good times were had with this layout, it will be dearly missed. But I am very much looking forward to the new one, I wish you the best of luck with it!
Looking forward to seeing work on the new layout Bill, but sad to see this one go after so much time and effort. Good luck mate! Here's to many more future videos from you.
Good luck with the strip-down and rebuild. May have a move in store myself so will watch this process with interest, particularly lifting ballasted track and points!
Wow sad to see. When I got back into model railroading about 2 years ago, your channel and another channel were the first 2 channels I came across and watched both for hours to get ideas and inspiration. Will be exciting to see what the new layout will be but sad to see this one go
Glad to hear you will still be doing repair videos while the rebuild goes on. Excellent video of your layout, even for the last time. Hope you have fun Bill.
Hi Bill ,, thanks heaps for putting your videos on here for us to watch learn and enjoy and no doubt your new layout sho be pretty darn good just like the one you are demo-ing. Great to also see you will doing some repair videos for us to watch as well as building your new layout. Videos of the demo and the new build would be awesome too. Thanks again m8. Cheers from John in Australia
You’ve certainly done well with this layout Bill there are times when I think of ripping mine up but just can’t bring myself to do it anyways best of luck for your new build regards Fred
Sorry to hear Doctor Beeching is coming to your layout! Quite a lot of imagination and work has gone into it. I think you should not destroy it. Thanks for uploading.
It just occurred to me Bill Perhaps you could sell the complete layout on Ebay. Use the money for the new build and someone else enjoy the beautiful little layout for years to come Thoroughly enjoyed watching trains runner around. Al the best for the new buil. I hope that you will be able to film some of it's construction. Nick Australia
Heck of a nice layout, exited to watch the progress on your new project. Perhaps you can do a video on how to prep your used track pieces for reuse. I find my used flextrack very stiff and sticky through the ties. Thanks for sharing, great channel.
I have enjoyed watching trains run on this layout and I am looking forward to your new build. From the track plan you have shown of the new layout it looks a very interseting layout and I look forward to seeing your video updates of the new build. For the removeable section of the 2 tracked section have you considered having it hinged on 1 edge so that the section is not totally removed but alows raising of the section to allow access? Great videos Bill Regards.
Just a thought Bill . With the large lift out section where the window is why not do it in two boards .split the board down the middle so you have the three main running lines as one board and the other board will only have the sidings on it .just slide the first board out should give you access to the window . Can`t wait to see you get started .👍👍
Wishing you all the best, looking forward to the new journey as it starts, it’s been a great few years watching your channel. Looking forward to next few months, did you put any for sale signs on the houses..?lol fore closures etc… poor sheep. All the very best, Marc from Leighton Buzzard
Hi Bill, line closures and last trains are always sad occasions. I think your video of the last train was very apt. Were Dr Beeching and transport minister and road buider Ernest Marples anywhere in the farewell crowd? Best of luck with the new layout and thanks for all the videos.
Have you thought about putting down a temporary loop of track on a board which can be lifted once that board is needed for the new layout? That could be stored against the wall while the new layout is built. It's a shame it has to be demolished really as it's a great layout but I can see the issue of getting it out of the door. I'm hoping to be in the loft building mine next year
If you check out the DCC Guy video where he upgraded his bridge he used a system of plugs for modular systems that appear ingenious & might work well with your removable sections. It could be worth a look.
just and observation on the new layout you were talking about the lift out section with the points on i noticed one of you points is right on the board joins which will make it very hard to fit a point motor because of any base board framing could i suggest keeping the track plan as you have it but extend that board by 2 inch or so and reduce the corner board by the same amount to over come the problem , also you mentioned your engine repair shed why not join the 2 sections of track and have a double ended engine shed so the broken engine go's in one end and comes out repaired the other end just a thought looking forward to seeing the new layout
My track is and will be set onto thick polystyrene. I cut a well out under the point for the motor. A double ended shed is an option and I do have an alternative plan to do what you suggest. But I like my old shed so will have to wait and see. I'm sure many things will change throughout the build.
Another great video. What camera did you use for the on board filming? The section at the window, not sure the layout of the room obviously or the window type but would it make any sense to have a board that can fit on top temporarily with supports tactically positioned on points on the main board that can weight bear? I regret the lack of access I "designed" into my layout; it is not unknown for me to climb up the roof and access via the Velux window (weather permitting!).
Don't axe your wonderful layout Bill . Don't act like Dr Beeching did in 1963 . 😉😉😉 However seriously Bill i look forward to seeing your new one in the near future . Cheers !
Firstly just wanted to say I only came across your channel a few weeks ago and have been glued to your videos. You explain the process of servicing and repairing models so well and with a bit of a laugh here and there. Love watching your channel! But what I was going to ask is do you have any other social media? I assume you'll post updates on the demolition and reconstruction of the layout, but was wondering do you post elsewhere too? For my own layout, I do more in depth and sporadic posts on Facebook but on a more daily continuous basis I post updates and progress on Instagram. Was just wondering did you do something similar
I really can't be bothered with social media. I do have a Ko-Fi page (link in description) which I set up to let people donate as I was asked to. I also do Community Posts on this channel from time to time.
I remember doing it to mine, my friend was speechless and I made my wife cry lol I do like the new plans I've salvaged all my buildings some of the old layout had steel track which went in the bin and to be fare most of the track went in the bin.i have the same window issue of which I started with joins in te track in the event of having to get to the window but now I've decided to not put joins in and worry about it if I need to get to the window. Anyway bill good luck with the new layout and perhaps keep the engine shed area for your fix it videos until the new one is ready or have a backscene of the old layout behind it ? One question will you upgrade to DCC?
