Got to meet Chief once at a conference. Got to talk and shake his hand afterwards. He was up in years but his mind was still sharp. He had all of us in stitches with his humor. He went in depth about the horse story. Way way more to that story. You could make a hour long documentary just about that story alone. What he really liked to talk about was teaching. Such a warm, kind, fun loving human being. He was one of the special ones.

I feel like his Nephew Should of gotten that title, mainly because instead of stealing horses, he stole something much more terrifying and dangerous, he stole what was equivalent to like 8 horses per animal.

I’m just surprised that Nick didn’t, when joes stealing the horses, he didn’t cut in Kevin Costner in dances with wolves when he’s riding between the two armies in the beginning of the movie. But again, he’s not Indian, but I’m sure there was a clip in that movie that would’ve suited…

There is an interesting documentary on the main character named Léo Major The One Eyed Ghost, but that one is in French.

Fun fact until cartridge fed revolvers, gatling guns, single shot rifles/carbines became a thing. No major power dared to pushing ok the entire west, yes it was nomally controlled by the US or some other power, but not actually controlled, as natives would just murder them, of and when they tried to exert control over their land and homes. Nothing kore American than that. We did it first, Russia didn’t try in Alaska either, and we were so much a problem, for what is essentially kore Siberia, they sold it the US as a way to make some of the money back they lost.
