It is interesting to note that the mentioned "Monsieur de Paris" in this video was at the time Jules-Henri Desfourneaux. Desfourneaux came from a long line of executioners who rendered their services to the French justice system for centuries. One execution he'd performed in 1939 (Which would end up becoming France's last public execution) was witnessed by 17 year-old Christopher Lee, who would go on to become a very distinguished actor.

A sad selfish woman. Instead of honoring her marriage and working together she only thought of herself and her base needs. If she had they possibly might have gone forward and prospered. A prime tale of karma that bounces back on an utterly evil personality.

Thanks for covering this story, Paul. You did an excellent job in keeping up the tension. Even though you know what is going to happen, it is still thrilling. So many curves in this story. And for Germaine ... What a horrible woman. Cheating is already as low as you can go, but cheating and then murder your husband is sinking to hell. I hope Monsieur Leloy didn't suffer too much. He was breathing still, which was awful to hear. Poor man. Just an honest and hardworking man. Why ...

I wonder if any of the past murderers, who took it upon themselves to kill their spouse's, ever seen a billboard or an advertisement of some sort,, or maybe noticed another couple JUST SPLITTING UP AND ENDING THEIR RELATIONSHIP WHILE.......ALIVE, JUST PARTING WAYS WHILE STILL BREATHING. Never to see each other again, but carrying on with life as THEY WANTED TO. Whether that be participating in drugs or being a sexual deviant or whatever you feel like doing. Or.....Am I Missing Something??? Is There A Law I'm Unaware of That States YOU HAVE TO KILL Your Spouse in Order to END YOUR RELATIONSHIP??? OOORR,,,,,Are these past murderers just PLAIN STUPID and Think That They Can and WILL GET AWAY WITH MURDER. Especially when they do it sooo ignorantly.

@@karenwebb2796 Nope, your not missing anything. There are evil people in this world and always will be. Lots of reasons to set them off. Money in this case is the root of all evil. And yes, they always think they can get away with it otherwise they probably wouldnt do it.

@karenwebb2796 I know divorce wasn't as easy of a thing, in the past. Leaving your spouse was as good as a death sentence for many women who would be shunned by their families and society and left to starve. I have absolutely NO idea why these things still happen in modern society. Just evil and a messed up mind. Sometimes people want to erase their entire past by killing the spouse and the children, as if friends and family wouldn't notice them no longer around or the living spouse running off with a new relationship. Boggles the mind!

What a fascinating case! 👍 It's clear that Germaine wasn't the brightest spark. How ever did she hope to get away with such a clumsy murder! The idea she was given brief notice at 4am on the very day of her execution kind of unnerves me. Same-day executions happen in Japan to this day. Two inmates who are actually suing the government for compensation, claiming this practice to be "extremely inhumane" and something that greatly affects the mental health of prisoners as they have no chance to contemplate the end of their lives and prepare for it! They live in fear that every day might be their last! They can't even see family (who are only told AFTER the execution). I can understand this is tough.. but these murderers really should have thought about it before committing such cruel, cold-blooded crimes and causing such pain to family members of their victims! 🙋🏻‍♀️

We often see a "Take a new lover, kill the spouse" style murders, but they always baffle me. I mean, cheating's already pretty freaking low, but if you're already cheating with a wealthy man, why not... run away? Must have been much easier back in the day, and yet so many seem to assume murder is the answer.
@lakeireland

The answer to that is usually money. If a person were to divorce their spouse, they stood the chance of losing some/all of their possessions. Remember too the time period. Divorce was heavily stigmatized and (depending on religion) a major sin. Personally, I feel if open marriages were more widely accepted/ normalized, a good percentage of crime associated with “cheating” wouldn’t exist. Lucky for divorce lawyers, humans are a possessive species.
