The fact that trump “agreed” to do the debates WITHOUT AN AUDIENCE screams that he has absolutely no intention whatsoever of participating. He will doubtless find some pathetic “reason” for not doing so and will undoubtedly ascribe that to something nasty the President or the democrats did to hurty his feelfeels😭😭😭

Lawrence, there is a gap in your comparison of U.S. Presidential Debates & the growth of the mainstream media. In the early part of the 20th Century, the mainstream media was not even close to what it would become in the 1970's & 1980's, when it comes to its influence. Had the mainstream media been as influential in the 1920's & 1930's as it ended up becoming in the late part of the 20th Century, political debates would have been more consistent. Just like Photography being invented in the 19th Century with small steps of the media using it sparingly, yet President Lincoln using it successfully: that success was not in the same context as Photography being influential overall, even when Photography was more popular by the time President Kennedy used it for his campaigning. Political debates are extremely important & it seems as if you are providing a landscape for Joe Biden having an excuse if he debates poorly. I am an Independent, just so you know that I don't have a Partisan agenda here. We need as many presidential debates as possible: we as U.S. citizens & voters do not have direct communicative access to our U.S. Presidents or U.S. Congress members like you the media are privy to, unless they are campaigning & a debate allows us to hear what they have to say. Of course, I would like to think that we as voters know that a debate is not on the same train of thinking as the U.S. President having to make gigantic presidential decisions but at the same time, should a U.S. President or presidential candidate fly over debates because they think it is a waste of time? No. Part of the mainstream media's conundrum of connecting to the mainstream audience is that they ignore the basic intelligence of an audience. Candidates should debate!
