As a manager in a home care company in the UK, I can fully attest to the benefit of caring for people in their own homes. People live longer in a comforting environment they are familiar with and often pass with greater dignity. It is also less stressful for family. Even if you are not on end of life care, staying at home is often the most beneficial for elder mental health. I know if someone goes into a facility long term, many just give up, feel isolated in an unfamiliar environment, they may have had to give up their pets, the small things that make them happy or grounded (especially if suffering from dementia). These people deteriorate quickly. I hope Harris is able to enact her vision.

I took care of my father for 30 years and then my mother for 12 years while raising 4 son's alone. I'm 74. Never had a life and yes I resent the shit about my life and how My son's were neglected. In Australia we something called the, Carer Payment is a pension for people who provide constant care to someone who has a severe disability, illness, or an adult who is frail aged. The EC is not the main problem, although it would need recalibration. The heart of the problem is the two-party system, kept alive by a 'winner-takes-all' principle. A multiparty system would have people talking to people across the aisles (plural) again, and learn to look for compromise, not division. But it's almost impossible to implement. Second problem is that the smaller (mainly red) states are over-represented in the senate. Every state gets to delegate two senators, regardless of the size. California gets two, Wyoming gets two. This is disproportional and makes the senate ( and therefore the entire government) always more conservative than the average American.
