Our late sister Aminah Assilmi from the Cherokee Native Indian community in America, a former Southern Baptist Christian missionary, delivers a lecture on Muslim women in the modern world.
I in my entire life span have not come across such a courageous, highly intellect and brave muslim lady ! I being a musim feel so proud every time i watch her passing any Islamic lecture.. May ALLAH bless her soul with peace :)
when i flash back in memorial of my mother, everythink that her lecture is make sense & true. know i knew it as a father that i have to do more gratefully to my wife. may allah granted u to jannah ukhti aminah..
Sis aminah is one of the most pious muslim woman that world has lost with her pasing away last year. No doubt she is in the mercy of Allah subhanatallah, and let us pray that Allah grant her the highest of jannah for what she not only had to endure in a hostile surroundings but also for what she had contributed for the cause of muslim in the western world specially USA. RIP
As a Coptic Christian I was intrigued to learn the parallels between what Abba says in Divine Liturgy and the content Sister Aminah delivered. Dignity, peace, love and equality.
Asalmucaykum wrwbkatuhu Did Sister Aminah Die I love her lectures and how much she teaches Muslim woman oh I love her so much may Allah give her rest in the shades of Jannatul Firdowsa InshaAllah
2manyusernamestaken I think if I were single it would be easy. I am reading the quran but realise it is not that simple to read. I can recite al ihklas in arabic and am learning al fatihah in arabic although I know it in English. I find it mysteriously adictive when recited.i suppose I am on a spiritual journey at present. There are many things I really love about Islam including prostration and not trying to humanise Allah. The simplicity of the masjid I like too, nothing to destract you from your focus on the creator. I also think for want of a better word the strictness of it is a good thing, where people have a set of rules to live life by. It is common sense to live by a set of good rules but I think it very important not only to live by the rules but to understand the spirit of the rules too. I must admit, I have always liked to drink alcohol and could easily drink a bottle of wine in an evening, perhaps on a Friday night but for some strange reason on 4th October whilst travelling on the plane home to Sydney after having a couple of drinks I decided this was my last one and I havent had one since. Islam forbids alcohol, maybe that is why I stopped, but more to the point is why. I once thought the Quran was suras containing verses or ayats but ayat doesnt mean verse it means sign. The sign to not take mind altering substances is there because it hinders our connection to Allah, ie how can you pray when your mind is confused by drugs, also nobody can doubt the problems alcohol causes, ask any doctor or policeman. To seek God is to sincerely surrender to him so him, to have a halal heart to love God and honour him by loving others and dying to selfish ego Maybe I am muslim but just havent realised it
steven rowe Wow, you definitely know more than the day-to-day Muslim ;) If you believe in the following things I am going to mention, then you're Muslim by heart: - Allah (quran.com/112) - The Prophets of Allah (from Adam a.s. to Muhammad s.a.w., including Jesus a.s.) - The Books given to the Prophets (Taurat, Zabur, Injil, etc.) - The unseen (e.g. the angels) - The Day of Judgement (heaven/hell) If you believe in these things, then I urge you to say your shahada: la illaha illallah, Muhammad rasulala, meaning: there is nothing worthy of worship, except Allah, and Muhammad is his Messenger. If possible, say it in front of at least two Muslims, so that they are a witness of your testimony of faith. If that's not possible, then Allah will be your witness :) You have nothing to lose. It's a win-win situation. Islam is already in your heart, you only have to make it official by saying the shahada. Note that sinning does not make you a kafir (disbeliever), but rejecting the Truth (i.e. Qur'an and Sahih Hadith) is act of kufr (disbelief). I hope you will get 1.6+ billion brothers and sisters soon in sha 'Allah (God willingly). Don't wait too long, because you don't know when you get to your deadline. May peace, mercy and blessings be upon you and your family in this life, and in the hereafter. And may Allah make it easy for you. Ameen.
2manyusernamestaken every one sins but I think one phrase sums it up BISMILLAH My understanding of a kafir is someone who denies god or simply rejects his sovereignty Allah has equipped us all with good things but we have a choice to aknowledge it.. wa aliekum salaam.
lovethe1wolves illuminate5 3:19 Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture (i.e. Christians and Jews) did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. 39:36 Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant [Prophet Muhammad]? And [yet], they threaten you with those [they worship] other than Him. And whoever Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide. 39:37 And whoever Allah guides - for him there is no misleader. Is not Allah Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution?
Before this video, I knew nothing about this lady. She spoke with courage, confidence and conviction. Her home has no room for ignorance. Education and character building are integral to Islam, not ignorance and submission to fellow humans. Muslim female attire is not only dignified, it is empowering. More so when it is adopted by choice and faith, not coercion. The sister is a model Muslimah. May her soul rest in eternal peace and receive the blessings and mercy of Allah SWT.
Was happy to find her today and upon further digging got to learn she is no more. Subhaan Allah! May Allah accept her good deeds. May Allah SWT grant us the same amount of strength of character and moral courage to steer on the straight path! Aameen

I am glad that 2 important questions came here and were answered by such an amazing muslim woman: 1. A brown desi woman asking if she can interfere/ make her son/ daughter accept her choice because she thinks it's the best one? Ans. She can make suggestions and present her choice, but she cannot force physically or forcefully advise/ pressurize mentally to make her children accept her choice because she thinks it's the best for him/ her. 2. Is female circumcision is islamic? Ans. No, it's not a islamic practice. Most muslims do not do it as it is not islamic. It's a cultural practice of some African people.
