I am currently writing a fantasy novel set in the Bronze Age. This is perfect for brainstorming, and I don't understand how you don't have thousands of subscribers.

Let me know when it is done! I want to read it. It’s such a niche area of history and law is kind of boring, so I’m not surprised. Plus, with my work schedule I don’t get videos out on a regular basis. Those who are interested will find me somehow!

My laptop BSODed right at the mention of Inana's nether regions just after the 2 minute mark! XD I first thought it was a joke within the video itself (the external monitor was still displaying the "normal" picture), and then the poor thing rebooted. The poor dear must have fainted at the thought of the impropriety!

The Algorithm™ brought you to me, and I'm thrilled! This was a lot of fun, which is an adjective few people associate with law (no offense). Love the "ADHD" captions, except you're forcing me to wear my glasses while I'm watching; small cost to get all the jokes, I suppose. Looking forward to seeing what else ya got.

Adverse possession of land is still a thing in the UK. If the land is not being used and the owner is not known and you fence and make clear open use the plot for seven years you can make a claim to the title.

14:51 Texas's defense of property laws take into account whether the theft occurs at night to this very day.
@LawsOfHistory
@LawsOfHistory 6 дней назад
@@crispybatman480 well there ya go! I’m in NJ and they killed the distinction a long time ago. Interesting that Texas kept it. What’s the difference? The degree charged?
@crispybatman480
@crispybatman480 6 дней назад
@@LawsOfHistory No, it is whether or not you can use deadly force to defend personal property. If you defend an unoccupied vehicle from being stolen via brandishing a gun during the day, you are commiting a crime. At night however, you would be privilaged to use deadly force(brandishing counts, as I'm sure you know). I believe TX might be the only state that allows you to defend personal property at all. Other than defending your home or car when occupied, which most states without a duty to retreat allow, but I would argue that context is essentially just self defense since you need another party to be in imminent danger. Edit: So it doesn't exactly fit the way burglary offenses were dependant on the time of day. This is more self defense law. I just thought that it was interesting TX separated the two concepts of burglary, and kept both in some ways.
@LawsOfHistory
@LawsOfHistory 6 дней назад
@@crispybatman480 that’s still interesting that the residuals of the “old way” still exist. I don’t think I have to tell you that the concept of defense of property is totally foreign to us northerners LOL!
@crispybatman480
@crispybatman480 6 дней назад
@@LawsOfHistory As a northerner, you do not, lol. I'm just very interested in use of force law. Mainly because if I am willing to defend myself, I should know how to do so legally.

Those letters from spoilt brats who want fancy new clothes are hillarious. What makes them even better is the fact that one of them is clearly coming from people who aren't even rich. "EVEN THE SERVANT'S SON HAS MORE FANCY CLOTHES THAN MEEEEE WHY MOM WHYYYYY😢😢😢!?!?" Spoilt brat.

There’s another one that I didn’t include. It was written by a boy who passed by a chariot on the side of the road. The boy begged his father to buy him the chariot, just like a teenager today would beg for a car.

The Wine Sellers probably were prostitutes and priestesses or servants of the Temple like that of Inanna-Ishtar. As prostitutes and priestesses enjoy a level of social and economic independence unheard to other women that lived inside the family unit and thus were subjected to the will of the patriarch or husband who were in charge and had the same obligations to the household women as to their children. But in the case of for example the Temple of Ishtar the priestesses practice "sacred prostitution" which is a way to say regulated prostitution or "unionised prostitution" which was regulated and enjoy certain level of respect or independence though it was inside societal laws and norms that limited said liberties or unusual rights, like in some cases owning property and be legally responsible of their actions. The practice of making wine I believe is related to Dummuzi the god husband of Inanna and had this literal associations to excess, party and inhibition of moral constrains thus seen associated to the cult of Inanna as also patron deity of such things.

The miscarriage laws speaks volumes of the social situation of Hammurabi's Babylon and why it inly endure three generations, Hammurabi's grandchildren were the last of his dynasty. These are laws that address a common situation thus when history and social order are studied in depth a common theme can be deduced, whenever you see a lot of abortions in society, either back by law or not the relevant thing is that is happening just bc people is prone to it, it means society is eroding itself and moral decline is widespread. You can find reformist trying to address the problems but pretty much you can find the same in the roman legal historiography by the fifth century and as always in a period of between 70 to 90 years said societies can be seen either collapsing or heading to some sort of violent period of instability.
