I’m seriously confused. I was under the impression that you were to NEVER use metal on the enameled pots surfaces, as it could damage the enamel. Is this incorrect? My pots are expensive and I do not intend to damage them.

Hi Kelly! Thank you for reaching out. Metal utensils can be used very carefully for serving, stirring or tasting a dish - just be careful not to scrape them across the enamel or knock them against the edge of the pot. In your home kitchen, we recommend using wood or silicone utensils whenever possible. Chef Ruhlman was living a bit dangerously with those metal tools in this video. 😉

Thanks for confirming that you can use a whisk in a Le Creuset pan. My ex thought I ruined the pan when I did this 🙄

I keep on seeing you using steel kitchen utensils in the Le Creuset Kitchenware in all the video's....it scratches your pans!

Le Creuset states "Metal tools, spoons or balloon whisks may be used, but require special care - they should not be scraped over the enamel surface. Do not knock these on the rim of the pan."

@@seikibrian8641 so that means they shouldn’t be used. As much as these pans cost, you should be demonstrating this with the correct utensils.

I'm not demonstrating anything here. And he WAS using the "correct" utensils. That some people don't know how to use metal utensils properly isn't the fault of the utensils. That's why Le Creuset specifically says "Metal tools, spoons or balloon whisks may be used..."

I searched quite a bit about using red wine vinegar or acidic ingredients which need to be boiled for certain recipes - is it safe for the enameled cast iron skillet? Kindly advice! Also, what is the enamel exactly made of?

I think it says on their website that it is safe with acidic foods, it's less than 1% porous. Check out their website, there's a ton of info. There's also an old "how it's made" video on youtube :)

Enamel is essentially minerals suspended in liquid. When the vessel is fired the liquid is boiled away and then the minerals fuse into a glass-like solid.

Surprised to see you use a wooden spatula but a metal whisk even though you seem to have a non scratch whisk in the container?.

I disliked it because of the use of metal in these pans. US THE CORRECT NONMETAL UTENSILS. Damn.

I don't know about this guy. 1. "vessel's" he's using are no longer available that I've found outside of a 30 y/o set on EBay, 2. the mini French/Dutch ovens behind him are history but most importantly, he's using a fish spatula to manipulate the food.

Well, it was fun but seriously, in my opinion, the tiny sandwiches were not properly made. Metal utensils, and why did this make me feel so deflated. The display of product was just too much of a foreground distraction, almost vulgar. Then the ridiculous wine and steak comment, which did not relate to his demonstration. Oh dear.

I've been cooking for 60 years I've never had trouble with black cast-iron I I have saucepans from 1954 they are the original enamel
