My dealer gave me X5 M50i for a day as a loan car when my car was in for service. Wow what a beast and the noise it makes is just brutal. Sounds much better than real M cars like M3/4

that in comfort mode this X5 M50 drives like an X5 40 in everyday driving is an important mention in this review, a useful point. The thing is, it is very hard to get this car to test drive at a dealership - they just don't have any to test drive in my area where there are 3 dealerships within 30-40 min drive. Each might have 1 at most on hand, but not for for test drive, but as new and for sale. So the hear that in comfort mode it feels like X5 40, is important.

I’m considering one but will not purchase without the Dynamic handling package (DHP) $2,600 US, In conjunction with the adaptive suspension will give you the true sporty feeling when driving this vehicle. I currently have the 2015 X5 Msport 5.0, loaded except for DHP and Adaptive suspension. That won’t happen again. Those two options are a must.

I watched your video along with others and ordered an X5 M50i, due in my local dealership on the Gold Coast, Australia about 10th August. The RORO car carrier is currently between Auckland NZ and Brisbane Au. It looks like you and the other US testers had fun. Any tester I watched burst out laughing when they put their foot down, so I hope it does the same for me.

I think the main competitors are: -GLE53 or GLE580 -SQ7 (May not have been available when you made the video. SQ5 is a size down and competes with X3 M40i) -Cayenne S

The 40i and 50i have 3rd row options but those seats are for 8 year olds. BMW makes a M50i X7 with captians chairs and usable 3rd row for $103K with no options. I just bought a X5 M50i and an awesome do everything car as your video goes over for a family of 4. One thing if you are looking at this car is that they have 3 suspension options: air, dynamic and adaptive(which is standard and was reviewed). They all have their pluses and minuses and really hard to test drive to compare. Basically comes down to sport or utility/comfort with the dynamic being somewhere in-between. No roof rails option so get the trailer hitch for options with bikes, snow boards and etc. Also wish BMW didn't nickel and dime you on options too for this price point. A lot of the software based options should be included such as park assist, 3d view and etc. One note on the video is they include Apple car play with no fees now, they got wise. Android coming soon on an update. Solid review and thanks for doing it.

The X5 M50i would be a GREAT way to trailer my M2 to the track..... And take my kiddos to soccer practice, of course. Not to mention, I can guarantee the ice cream will NOT melt on the drive back from HEB!

Just bought this in white TODAY. Love this ride-Have a F80 M3 already and bought this for the wife. Love the V8 performance sound on this:-) Hits the sweet spot between performance and comfort. Tech and extras make this the best choice of any luxury sport SUV's that I found.

Main thing I don’t like about my x5 m50 is rear seats do not recline at all, not even manually, and it’s very vertical compared to my other SUVs that offer rear recline or rear adjustment

It can be spec’d with a 3rd row. I had mine spec’d with it. Will be having it in April.

At 6:20 you used the term "Twin-Power, Turbocharged V8 Engine" which is incorrect. In BMW language the term "twin-power" refers to a twin-scroll single turbo. This engine (same as in the M850i) has 2 turbochargers or Twin-Turbos. It's a "Twin-Turbo, Turbocharged V8 Engine".

Thanks for the review! The Audi Q5 is definitely not a competitor of the X5 though, it would be the Q7 (SQ7 in this case). The Q5 would compete with the X3 😉

I have one of these and I love it, but the telescoping steering wheel does not come close enough to me and it's really frustrating.

I would be comparing the X5 to the Q7 rather than the Q5. The latter is much smaller.

I guess you’d be right but I would also assume the Q7 would be the X7 competitor as they’re both 3-row SUVs.

Love the wheels but afraid of them as an option in NY. One pot hole and who knows what will happen to them. The 20” and 21” wheels are ugly but they are the only viable option if driving in New York. Even the 21” wheels are questionable.

Awesome review. I am looking to get this or X5 40i x drive. Right now due to chip shortage, hard to get air suspesion which I really want but it is easier to build a new and order Adaptive M suspesion. For more comfort, do you think Adaptive M works well ? Going over crappy road, potholes after winter snow?
