Undoubtedly one of their best characters. And such clever writing, the way the details of the accident are slowly teased out. Makes me laugh (and cry) every time.
yes, his little monologue really is quite underrated. it's a shame that Gatiss' character in the second live show (and the second live show in general) where/was so disapointing
It's up against some stiff competition - this particular sketch is a masterpiece. Not just the lines though, his delivery, honed and tweaked after countless performances has made this funnier over time. It's the mundanity that births the genius - 'school trip tragedy, local man blamed'. I never thought those 6 words could be so fucking hilarious balanced with the horror of what they reveal.
My absolute favorite scene from LOG! What a brilliant series these men have created, drawing such rich diverse characters, often in just one scene! I also love the "Chalk it up!" guy :)
An absolute masterpiece of writing and performance. But yes better in the original with the shorts and without the knowing audience laughter. Also the faces of the tourists as they realise the horror.
@MadcapMan They were all fucking brilliant, and to be fair, it was an amazing series. (Series one and two, at least.) Even if you take away the comedy, you've still got some of the best character acting the world has ever witnessed. Seriously. Cheers for the comment, MadcapMan, you've inspired me to watch them again.
It's actually based on Stump Cross Caverns near Richmond, North Yorks. If they showed this instead of the 20 min video about limestone erosion (which is 19 minutes too long in my opinion) they would have far more visitors.
"Michael Buerk did say to me, Mick you can't go blaming yourself, it wasn't your fault, but I don't know...young kiddie like that, whole life ahead of him. School trip tragedy, local man blamed. Every day the same, parade of blank faces, constant drip drip from the cavern roof. The cold indifference of the ancient rock. But you keep going, don't you. It's like the Moss growing round that little lightbulb there...life finds a way..."
I think it's based on Peak Cavern (the Devil's Arse), Castleton. Took my kids a few years ago and then showed my eldest this sketch, he couldn't believe the resemblance. Imagine this character in a spoof series of Coast or something like that, priceless!
One of my favourite comedy sketches ever! The way he delivers the words and his perfect timing. The story itself is not a humorous one. A boy drowning and the tour guide blamed and public shame. Jealousy over another local mine attraction. The sketch is however hilarious and brilliant. Some say you need a dark humour to laugh at it! The irony is that it’s set in a cave underground! The darkest place ever 🤣🤣🤣
wonder where this was filmed, we saw them in bournemouth... sound wasn't great plus didn't have binoculars so not much idea what was going on but plenty of leg room cos at end with no seats in front. we came, we supported!
I think you just might be, yes. As far as a one off character goes, this guy was immense! One of the funniest performances on this live show too! I'm deeply troubled with the fact that no-body's uploaded the sketch from the original series.
Not knocking this but the TV original is better because it's so silent and gloomily atmospheric apart from the dripping water and Mark's dismal intonations.
@@robinhyperlord9053 Turns out the reason he's always in that cave is because he committed suicide there so his soul is caught between planes of existence.
Literally just arrived 1/2 hour ago, it's the full boxed set with the Xmas special etc. I bought this last time for around $60 but lost it to my ex during the division of items :( So scoring it for less than $20 is bloody brilliant :D Yay!
hawkboy451 Oh wow, thank you, that's very sweet :) I actually have the whole TLoG specials (downloaded the torrent on kat) but with some things it's really nice to have the proper set, that way you get all the special extras and support the artists too (I own all the Alien movies for the same reason- it's just cool having the proper DVDs for some reason). But thank you anyway- what a nice youtube comment... bloody rare, that's for sure hehe
