The thing that always strikes me about this show is how fantastic the character acting is. So many characters, all different and all beautifully realised. The writing is superb but the acting doesn’t get enough credit.

The League of Gentlemen did the Pops dinner party sketch when they toured in 2018 with Reece Shearsmith playing Patricia. Most nights it ended in some serious corpsing by him- a tribute to Steve Pemberton's performance as Pops (You can see a version with both Reece and Steve both corpsing while performing the sketch here on RU-vid).

People keep saying that over every comedy sketch on RU-vid. You can still buy this, it streams, and it gets performed on stage. It is as fine today as it was made, five minutes ago.

No offence but you’re delusional This episode alone we have: Her lip: homophonic and suggests that gay guys want to seduce young boy Seedy dad: sexuaI asult Las episode Barbra: transphobic Papa lazarus: black face. In fact Netflix pulled the show because of him So in two episodes we have homoohobia, transphobia, rape and racism That’s a royal flush of woke problematic issues. I’ll say it again. @@gorgeousgeorge643 i wanted to reply to this person too but it looks like theyve deleted their comment after you triggered them. 10 years ago no one believed trans women are women. today if you dont believe it youre transphobic. sure some snowflakes existed back them too but being "oppressed" wasnt as mainstream as it is now so many of my fave comedys wouldnt be made now. bo selecta, ali g, brass eye. even the likes of game on just think of all the shows we are missing out on because of these killjoys

I guess this is a spoiler somewhat, but here goes: Papa Lazarou does return in the future. I won't say where and when but he does show up again. I don't know how deep you currently are into the show, as this is from a few months ago, but are you planning to do the movie "League of Gentlemen Apocalypse" or even the live show? "Live At Drury Lane" isn't canon or anything but it is a fun watch. The first half is a very stripped-down affair with the main three actors in suits and minimal props, but the second-half is proper Royston Vasey with all the tv characters. Good fun. Also, if you can find it, the original radio series "On the Town with The League of Gentlemen" is worth a listen.

Pauline and Papa Lazerou were based on real people the cast met. When some of the cast were unemployed and had to go to a job club in order to get their unemployment benefits the women running it was a bit like Pauline- offering really stupid advice, Papa Lazerou was based on a landlord some of the cast had who would only speak to Dave and no one else and spoke like Papa Lazerou!
