Not to be knit picky, but it maybe a go idea to mention that the engine transom bracket bolts have a torque specification and should not be exceeded. Over torquing can cause premature breakage and/ or wear. Thanks for the video.
The idiots who installed my jackplate/motor put the bolts in backwards so the nut is facing forward towards the splashwell. I am afraid to take the bolt out so I have to have someone turn the bolts around.
The Leash is not specific to what boat or jack plate, or even if you have a jack plate or not so you would just select the correct Leash based on what motor you have.
Do you make a bracket that bolts to somewhere closer to the transom, like the transom to jack-plate bolts? It seems as though some incidents involve the jack-plate itself breaking when hitting a submerged object and this installation wouldn't seem to help in that case. I want to buy one, but I'd like to see a different mounting option. Thanks for the vid.
We previously did however, there is not much difference as far as effectiveness with our current design. The reason being is that 99% of the accidents that happen that results in the motor flipping into the boat, the piston is the first thing that fails. When that fails, the motor has free range of motion and continues its forward momentum. When it gets to a certain point, it then breaks the next weakest point which is generally the hydraulic jackplate or the motor bracket itself. The leash is designed to come into play after the piston fails and help prevent the motor from having enough leverage to break the next weakest point. Or at the very least divert some of the force to slow the motor down so it does not end up in the cockpit.
Typically it is best to let that be the last step just to make sure exactly where your Leash will want to try and rub depending on where the brackets are mounting for your setup.
My problem is why does it cost so much $299.98 in a few years you got to replace it for rope man people are in a America when they bring something out on the market it’s hi dollar why can’t in my opinion they are trying to get rich off on item
Hey Raymond! I am not sure where you got that information that the Leash needs to be replaced in a few years. We currently do not have an expiration date on The Leash.
I thought about rigging up something similar to save a few bucks but the time it takes to shop for and buy lesser expensive parts, I'm wasting more time than it's worth just buying the kit for $300. Then I know it's done right the first time. No estimates, no guess work , no cut corners. Sure I can save a few bucks but the savings doesn't justify the time and frustration of buying a part here and a couple parts there. Returning parts that are off a little and spending who knows how many hours of wasted time getting it right. $300 is a bargain. 👍
