Using a handle flip the KB opens good, and the detent doubles as a half stop for closing. The extra holes I think we're patterned after a T Rex skull or similar dino.
Please, please, please use a standard (91mm) Swiss Army Knife in comparisons! Every knife guy has at least 1 SAK though may not have any other specific model. This is especially true in Europe where locking knives, one hand openers and longer blades may be illegal. Please?
escargotiskuhol that doesn’t surprise me in the least. My Leatherman Wave is a great piece of kit, but as a knife, it’s not exactly the May West!. However, my point here was restricted to size comparisons. I’d like to see a standard 91mm SAK used as it’s a ubiquitous comparator. The Delica, may be a great knife, but in many places, especially here in the U.K., where a lock knife is illegal, so few of us, including me, will never own one.
'disassemblability' is a good point. As you say if you want to use it to cut an apple or any moist application, as I do, then this and the open handle design are really useful features.
This knife could be a great test bed for new blade steels for Leatherman. I would love nothing more than to see Leatherman implement LC200N on their multi-tools. Maybe replace 154CM with LC200N, and replace S30V with something even better? Might be worth trying those steels out on this knife in order to minimize cost?
Steven Rassmussen I don’t think LC200N would make a ton of sense as the rest of the leatherman is made of less stain resistant steel. Unless you made the entire thing out of lc200n which would be cost prohibitive
I can confirm that this is a good tool, my knife got taken by tsa on my way to a 100 mile cannon trip. I bought one of these there and used it the whole week it never fail on me.
Does the top corner of the blade scrape your hand when reaching into the pocket of your aren't careful? I have the multi-tool version of this knife with slightly better blade steel (identical blade design) and I don't carry it because it scrapes me how I mentioned.
I’ve carried the crater and the c33 that replaced it and I’ve been considering the skeletool since both of those are discontinued (lost them both). I’ve had no gripes about the 420hc. I find it holds a more than decent edge for edc tasks like cutting cord, boxes, feed sacks, etc. never had a problem out of mine.
So are you going to be calling 8cr13mov completely inadequate luke 420hc now? Cause as Cedric & Adas knife testing has shown leathermans 420 hc is better than 8cr13mov
If Nick gets a 3.5 finger grip on it, that means it's a 3 finger knife for the rest of us. :P Seriously though, I would like it if reviewers would start putting grip length in their reviews of smaller knifes as a standard, just so that the rest of us don't have to guess our hand size vs the reviewers hand size. We can look up blade length, etc. but grip length is rarely if ever listed. Keep up the great work Nick :)
You can extrapolate handle length if it's not specified (usually under "closed length") in sale listing so long as you have blade length and overall length. As far as reviewers go, the size comparison with commonly available models essentially covers it as well.
@@JustIn-op6oy Handle length isn't the same as grip length. Comparisons cover it to an extent, if they line it up by the parts where you can actually grip the knife comfortably/as intended. I just appreciate it when that info is given.
subbystyle same. I thought maybe Nick was stroking out for a sec lol. Not really but was confused until I read the comments. I've never known a RU-vidr to have such a backlog of videos. It kinda seems redundant but maybe that's why I'm not a RU-vidr.
Keeps the price down yo. Also super steels in pocket knives is on the whole ridiculous. W2 is all a knife needs to be from, everything else is snobbery.
Jack Nemo Your opinion but by that logic my car wouldn’t need to go over 60mph. No reason to have an airbag as a seatbelt is all I should ever need and it keeps the cost down. I buy what I want. You buy your W2.
Better steel means it will hold an edge longer. If you can afford it, why wouldn't you want a blade that will last as long as possible between sharpening
I guess, the price would be a reason. 25 bucks which magically turn into 45 euros... 154CM would add like 50% on top of that. It would shift the knife into different price category.
While I disagree on the usefulness of the steel, good, solid review. I’ll always think the Dozier will be the best budget small edc knife this entry is kind of tempting. The denim version looks nice but it’s part serrated (of which I’m always a fan) but at this length kind of pointless. Good luck with the move to Cali.
Ive been carrying a skeletool for more than a few years on my belt loop. Looking at this to lighten up sometimes. I do wish it had a small clip on the end to clip on a belt loop
Is it LBH aproved? Jk nick i like this knife looking forward to getting my hands on it. As far as the blade steel im fine with 420. And living in cali youre gonna hear that num a lot especially from those skunks that were outside when you were disassembling the protech knife
I assume that this is literally the same blade used in the skeletool, which means they actually have tons of 154cm blades lying around the factory that they could just drop in there.
Please, make a video where you open the knife with your left hand :D I'm lefty and it took some time and pivot screw tuning, but now I can flick the blade in my Skeletool open with my middle finger :)
You'd probably be better of stealing a 154CM blade from a different Leatherman and putting it on this lol, if you can find one that won't break the bank

I dissagree about the steel. This is made as a small, extremely cheap backup knife. Improving the steel would up the cost making it a less viable as a knife to throw wherever. 420HC is adequate here.
